Castaway or not approved, I think are the same in the context he uses it, why did St. Paul think he could possibly be either if he believed once saved always saved? You seem to be saying there are different states of grace but deny different states of sin to me?(1 Cor. 9:27) has the word “castaway” in it, which gives the wrong message.
The Greek word is “adokimos”, which means “not approved”.
There is a big difference in meaning here. “Not approved” would mean that the extra prize (rewards) of running the race well would be lost, but that does not necessarily mean that salvation would also be lost.
Salvation is a gift of God which is not earned or it would not be “by grace”.
