There is also another reason why some people wont become Catholic; you do not let women work in your church.

My Methodist minister wouldn’t be a minister if she was catholic. This, I feel, is very sad.

That is how MAN resolves it-the question is that how God intended it to be resolved? Did he throw a book at us and leave us on our own to figure it out? Did his unleash a michevious spirit to lead us in thousands of different direction imparting the truth to only a select few? Were the Gnositics right?
Come now estesbob, I was olny joking. 😛 Denominations; it is a sad thing that we all have seperated. But let’s just focus on trying to re-unite, that would be beautiful! 😃

The Bible isn’t hard to understand? I refer you to the difficulties Messers. Luther and Calvin had in this regard.
Just sit down with it and read it. Put down all your other bookls for about 6 months Use a text only version with no notes. Highlight all of the verses that teach you something about God himself.

Start like this:

Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Joshua, Judges, 1&2 Samuel, 1 &2 Kings, Ezra, Nehemiah, (insert 1 Maccabees here if you must ) Luke, Acts. This is the spine of the bible.

From here you can branch out in various directions according to subject and chronology. There is poetry, literature, prophecy, gospels, law, and some more history left.

When you have read the entire thing look back at our notes and the things you have highlighted. You will have learned that God is absolutley sovereign amoung many other things. 🙂

I wonder if this is based on Catholic teaching. If so, then the complaint of Works Based Salvation in the Catholic Church is true. I believe one of the decrees from Trent says otherwise, so I doubt this is an authentic application of Catholic ideology. But it is a common attitude I have seen among some of the fervently Catholic faithful.

It seems there is an idea that if one is Catholic he hedges his bet on the final deposit of his soul. Comments like this one reflect that view succinctly. I find this idea to be the Catholic expression of “once saved always saved.” “I’m Catholic so it’s all good. I have the Eucharist, I go to confession, I wear my brown scapular, I say my rosary … I have … I do … I’m good to go”

If I’m going to hedge my bet on my soul it will be in having faith in Christ and in loving God with all I have and loving my neighbor as myself. It won’t be by belonging to a certain tribe within Christianity.

It does happen in other churches. I am certain that many unsavory characters have passed through the red doors of many Lutheran Churches.

It isn’t the practice of Churches to refuse entry to sinners, lest they be forever vacant. One hopes that being in Church will influence the unrepentant to repent. Obviously, it doesn’t always work that way.
One thing Lutherans and Catholics believe, is that both good and evil people receive the body and blood of Christ at the Eucharist. The outcomes are different, however.

Jon
Im not really talking about refusing entry to sinners, thats really a whole different story.

But I would believe that all churches are guilty of letting unrepentant criminals in.

History has proven the corruption and resistance to reform
The Catholic Church is more than four times as large as all of non-Catholic Christianity combined. Since 1950 the Church in the United States has had 109,694 priests. During that time period of over fifty years, 4392 (as reported in February 2004) were accused of molesting minors, or about four percent. Remember, that number is the total number of those charged and not the number of those found guilty. We can not be so naive as to ignore the fact that many of those are false charges and were brought about by greed in hopes of gaining a monetary settlement. We remember the person who falsely accused the Archbishop of Chicago and who later dropped the charge, saying that he had lied. Keep in mind that those allegedly charged with pedophilia are a small minority of the total charged.
Keep in mind also that these figures did not come about all at once recently, but are spread out as far back as 1950, over 50 years ago. Some of the accused priests were discharged by the Church decades ago and hundreds of others have since passed away, making any defense in their behalf an impossibility.

Remember, we could not have had Jesus Christ as a Savior without also having a Judas to betray Him.

hello departed light, sounds like you have heard a bit about Catholic practice a very little bit. I would challenge you into searching deep into her spirituality. Like starting at the very beginning of the Church after Jesus went to the Father and the Apostles received the out pouring of the Holy Spirit in the upper room at Pentecost. We are an Apostolic Church with Christ as our head, from beginning to end. May I suggest reading the early Church Fathers also, A good book for a start would be ‘Four Witnesses’ by Rod Bennett.God’s blessings:signofcross: Carlan

I don’t blame you, sounds more like what a protestant would say.

Please do not deflect. As far as my own personal Scripture studies are concerned, I rely on the Navarre Bible coupled with the Catechism of the Catholic Church for sure guidance. No Protestant hit and miss, thank you very much.

Back to my original post, please explain the difficulties Luther, Calvin and the other Reformers had in interpreting Scriptures among themselves and explain what it led to.

Well,

I believe that praying to anything other than God is wrong. I don’t believe in transubstantiation. I don’t believe we should make images of Christ and bow down to statues. I believe in sola scriptura. I don’t believe in apostolic succession as defined by the RCC. I don’t believe the pope is the successor of Peter. I don’t believe a priest can forgive or retain sins. I believe all Christians who have been regenerated are priests. I don’t believe in indulgences. I don’t believe in purgatory. I don’t believe Mary was sinless, assumed into heaven, co-mediatrix or co-redemptrix. I don’t believe Mary has anything to do with the Church today at all. I think she is in heaven awaiting the resurrection like all the other souls. I don’t believe that the RCC as it is today is the original church Christ founded. I don’t believe works contribute to salvation at all. I think the RCC needs to reform.

So…

I don’t really fit in. 😃
I can tell you lack real education! For one Catholics only pray to the trinity. second they ask mary and saints so on to pray for them to Christ, third Peter started the catholic church which is contradicting to your protestant beliefs, fourth you have no idea if Mary is or is not sinless and the only one that would have the best chance of knowing is the catholic church which existed during her life. I have noticed on another post that you believe in the Bible alone yet it was catholic Bishops that gave you the Bible and not only that, Luther took books away and changed translations to fit his opinion on the matter! Give up your vein uneducated opinions and get a real college education on christian history and the languages of those times and even then you are not worthy enough to have an opinion! I am so sad and disapointed how foolish protestants are!

Three generally wrong reformers who were substantially less wrong than the RCC at interpreting the infallible word of God.

Calvin was less wrong than everyone though. 😉

Breath…

Are you ok? I’m ok. I hope we are ok.

I am secure in my faith. Just letting you know why I’m not Catholic.

The Catholic Church is most cetainly a denomination.
Which do you believe has higher authority the pope or scripture?
Any one that will say the Cathloic Church is a denomination is a fool or is this plain ingnort

So what insight was given to Calvin that had escaped all those who went before him? i guess, however, if one beleives in predestination it does not matter what errors were taught in the 1,500 years before God revealed the truth to you.

Good… I never did that…
There are significant differences between Protestant and Roman Catholic doctrines. Protestants accuse the Catholics of being unscriptural and the Catholics state that the Protestants do not have the true faith carried through the centuries by the Catholic Church. Which ever side you fall on, the real issue is whether or not the Roman Catholic Church is representing true Christianity.

I thought so at first also, but I have since become pursuaded that she is just a very confused and conflicted young lady. It is almost like reading posts by someone with multiple personalities. I do think she is sincerely searching though.
After reading more of her posts, I believe you’re right.
