Proving Real Presence

The US Constitution can be debated amongst scholars, BC it is not of God.

Scripture is of God. It’s meaning must be revealed.

One Truth, not multiple truths.

Protestant Churches are not apostolic.

The Bible is Apostolic. The 7Catholic letters are evidence of this.

Protestants believe that their own soul is in their body without proof but they have to have proof that Jesus’ soul ca not only be in bread and wine but that the wine and bread change their substance even though you can’t see such a thing.
Wait, Jesus soul is in the bread and wine? That’s a new one, never heard that before. Can you cite some Scripture for that?
Why is it they believe in their own soul but LIMIT what Jesus who is God and created the universe out of nothing can do? Look–if cosmic rays go through us all the time–then changing the substance of anything is child’s play for God!
That’s not why we don’t believe in transubstantiation. I don’ t believe Christ’s body must be broken and blood shed over and over and over ad infinitum.
The reason God chose to do the eucharist this way is to TEST the faith of us–do we believe or have faith only in things that we can see and seem reasonable to us–OR–
can we have faith in and believe in Jesus’ words even when they’re in CONTRADICTION to what we see with our eyes?
Protestants want to hollar about justification by faith–well I’ll tell you what REAL faith is:
believe in the Eucharist because Jesus told you so REGARDLESS of what your eyes see!
Do you have that much REAL faith oh non believing Protestant? Will you believe what Christ’s church led by the apostles will tell you about that or will you trust your own eyes and what you think is reasonable?
God can’t know our heart unless we pass the test? Believe me there are greater tests of faith than transubstantiation. I believe that the Son, part of the Trinity, wholly God, became human through a virgin, healed the sick, made the lame whole, forgave sins, fed thousands from a kid’s lunch, walked on water, raised the dead, died for the sins of the world, rose from the dead, and ascended to the Father; I believe God can change bread to flesh, but I don’t believe He does.
Look–if Jesus told me that the pyramids were there beneath the appearances of bread and wine–I’d believe Jesus!!!
I would believe that too if it were in Scripture.
The real question is do you believe Jesus that much or not?
I believe that Jesus who is God can do anything–I don’t have to understand everything–it is Jesus whose words are truth and life!
I believe this too, as do most conservative Protestants.
I’m betting my soul on Jesus and His church!
Put your faith in Jesus, not an organization.

Put your faith in Jesus. Yes.

Put your faith in the Holy Spirit too.

Grow and live with Jesus in the Eucharist and Confession.

I have no doubts.

No place in all of Scripture did Jesus say anything to intentionally turn people away. In fact, in his parable about the enemy sowing weeds in the farmer’s field Jesus emphsizes that pulling them up would disturb the wheat. The only scenario remotely selective was when he emphasized to the Syro-Phoenician woman that his primary mission was to the people of Abraham’s covenant. Later of course he indicated the New Covenant would include the Gentiles.
The rich, young ruler; the merchants in the Temple, his fellow Nazarenes in Luke 4, priests, scribes, Pharisees, Sadducees. In fact, Jesus knew many were grumbling and He goaded them further (John 6:60-66) I stick with my original statement that Jesus was speaking symbolically to separate wheat from chaff, He could because of His divinity.
**“Does this shock you?” ** How could this question from Jesus apply to anything else other than what they were perceiving as “cannibalism?” They indeed were conscious of Mosaic Law prohibiting the consumption of any blood.
I have made this point about the law several times. If Jesus gave His disciples bread and wine at the Last Supper and it became flesh and blood, the Jesus caused the Apostles to violate the Law of Moses. This can’t be true because Jesus was sinless, therefor I can’t believe in transubstantiation.
But everywhere else whenever Jesus spoke in parables or metaphor, an explanation followed. Here, the exchange between Jesus and his followers is plain. And when they couldn’t accept it (like they couldn’t accept the Suffering Servant Messiah), they left.
Jesus sometimes explained things to the apostles when they asked, he didn’t explain others. When Jesus says in John 6 that those who eat His flesh and drink His blood will never hunger or thirst again, I’ve got to think He is speaking spiritually, symbolically, which was often. Such as this verse John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Now, John explains this, but Jesus didn’t. Since the Spirit hadn’t come yet how could anyone understand it? (Not trying to build doctrine on a single verse, but to illustrate my point) As Jesus said in John 6:63 the words He spoke were full of the Spirit, and He said the flesh counts for nothing. If flesh counts for nothing why then transubstantiation?
Jesus did not chase after them correcting their “misunderstanding.” If it were the case that Jesus meant for His Body and Blood to be symbolic and they perceived it as ghoulish why didn’t he pursue them and explain it more “clearly?”
Why chase them, He drove them away. (verses 60-66). He didn’t chase after them, but He did ask those who stayed if they were going to leave too.
Taken with the Synoptic accounts John 6 corroborates and EMPHASIZES the Real Presence.
I must respectfully disagree.

Put your faith in Jesus. Yes.

Put your faith in the Holy Spirit too.

Grow and live with Jesus in the Eucharist and Confession.

I have no doubts.
This is off topic, but there is nothing wrong with doubts. The Apostles doubted Jesus resurrection, Jesus questioned God’s plan in the garden, Doubts fuel study, which leads to knowledge. The opposite of faith is not doubt, but sight.

Wait, Jesus soul is in the bread and wine? That’s a new one, never heard that before. Can you cite some Scripture for that?
“This (wine) IS my body… This (bread) IS my blood.” “Unless you eat my BODY and drink my BLOOD, you have no life in you.” What other scripture do you need? Can Jesus’ soul be SEPARATED again from His Body and Blood? If it were, He’d be dead again, wouldn’t He?

[/quote]

The people who walked away from Jesus and stopped following Him (in John 6) had no difficulty believing ALL the things you’ve listed. In fact, many of them were witnesses to most of those events. The “hard saying” that freaked them out (as it does you incredulous Protestants) was Jesus’ dead set serious and clear discourse about His BODY and BLOOD having to be EATEN and DRUNK for the attainment of eternal life. If He was speaking “symbolically” - as you folks like to claim - there was no reason for those people to flee from Him. Again, if He was speaking symbolically, and then saw them leaving because they had mistakenly understood His words to be literal, He had a sacred OBLIGATION as a Rabbi to clarify that to them, to stop them from misunderstanding Him and leaving. He didn’t do that. What think you of that? Are you aware that if a Jewish Rabbi was ever misunderstood in His teachings and FAILED to clarify any of his words which had obviously been taken in some wrong way, he was thenceforth branded a “bad man”? Was Jesus a bad man? Your understanding of scripture (and Christ’s words) smacks of tragic ignorance of its context - starting with Judaism. Thus it is that you come here proposing another gospel, at marked odds with the faith of God’s one true Church from the beginning.
Put your faith in Jesus, not an organization.
Oh, come now. The “organization” you’re referring to IS in fact JESUS, so you’re creating a false dichotomy here. The Church IS the living Body of Christ, with HIM as her head. When Saul was persecuting the Church, Jesus chided him for persecuting HIM. He didn’t ask, why are you persecuting an “organization” called the Church? I’m sure you know what Jesus actually said to Paul. So enough of this fictitious “choice” between following Jesus or following His Church, which you like to falsely portray as some mere “organization” divorced from Christ. Indeed!

Nicea325;9729811Ah noooo! Again said:
Why do you limit God’s presence to bread and wine. Jesus said He would be with us until the end of the age. The Spirit dwells within us, Christ is with us always, we can boldly approach God’s throne as a son (Hebrews 4:16), not a servant. You judge my faith? I don’t need someone to perform a ritual to be in God’s presence. My God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, are with me whenever I call, whenever I pray, whenever I am in need; not because I command Him, but because He loves me that much. That’s the Real Presence.
First of all, Jesus spoke Aramaic, not Greek. So the premise to check out Strong’s Greek has no bearing at all.
Greek was the language of the Eastern Roman Empire, it was the language the apostles would have spoken outside Israel and the language in which the NT was written. Saying the original words of the NT have no bearing is an unscholarly assertion.
Second of all, did the Jews eat an actual tanglible lamb at Passover or mere cookie cut-outs symbolizing a lamb? You tell me.
I know they didn’t eat bread and say it became lamb. Additionally, the Jews ate lamb all the time, not just during the Passover or during other religious events. Lamb and bread were a common meal.Since you bring up the Temple sacrifices how about this verse.

Hebrews 10:10 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For **by a single offering **he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. 15 And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, 16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,” 17 then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” 18 **Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. **
If Christ’s flesh and blood were offered once for all sin, why must it be offered to us now?

Once you reject the Church, the rest naturally follows. Sacred Tradition? Gone. Seven books of scripture? Gone. Five of the seven Sacraments? Gone. Baptism? Well, if you follow the “Romans Road”, it’s also gone. Soon, will even faith be gone?
No. Faith is what saves us.

God is present in the Eucharist and this is how he heals our sins.

Why do you limit God’s presence to bread and wine. Jesus said He would be with us until the end of the age. The Spirit dwells within us, Christ is with us always, we can boldly approach God’s throne as a son (Hebrews 4:16), not a servant.
In return I could ask you; why are you limiting God’s presence only to His Spirit? God was ALWAYS with man in Spirit. Then He appeared in the flesh and promised to remain always with man - until the end of the age. If, after promising this, Jesus ascended into heaven and we went BACK to having Him ONLY in Spirit - as before - then His promise to be with us always didn’t mean anything special at all, did it? So why did He bother saying it? Did Jesus come here to tell us things we already knew or give us of Himself in a way we already had? God’s intimacy with man is on the increase through the ages. His works are never retrograde - which they would be if He dwelled in the flesh with us once, and then no more.
If Christ’s flesh and blood were offered once for all sin, why must it be offered to us now?
A sacrifice ALWAYS involves “feasting” - eating the flesh of the victim. No sacrifice is ever complete without this step. Read Exodus. Read Deuteronomy. This is why the Body and Blood of Jesus - our sacrificed Paschal Lamb - has to be EATEN. This is why the Eucharist is available to us during every Catholic Mass in every church, every day of the year - so that we Christians might partake of Jesus’ sacrificed Flesh and Blood and LIVE. He came that we might have “life” and have “it” abundantly. What (or rather, “Who”) is YOUR life? And how do YOU gain it (Him) abundantly? You already know how those who accept Jesus’ offer do.

Jesus gave His disciples bread and wine at the Last Supper and it became flesh and blood, the Jesus caused the Apostles to violate the Law of Moses. This can’t be true because Jesus was sinless, therefor I can’t believe in transubstantiation.
Again, you betray great lack of understanding of the scriptures - and the meaning and purpose of God’s laws. WHY was eating blood forbidden in the Mosaic Law? WHAT blood was forbidden in the old law? The blood of animals (or mere humans), that’s what. Why was it forbidden? Because in Judaism blood always signified LIFE. It was the soul of the creature. Since God is the sole author of life, the blood of a sacrificed animal had to be surrendered to Him. God, in His wisdom knew that if men were to drink animal blood they would start to mistakenly believe that they might be able to acquire life from it. This is why the blood of a sacrificed animal had to be poured under the altar - “returned” to God. This is why the Israelites had to apply the blood of the lamb at the first ever Passover sacrifice on their doorposts - as a token of their obeisance to the Lord of Life, the “Angel of Death”, who was none other than God Himself. On seeing the placement of their lives in His hands - signified by the BLOOD on their doorposts - He spared them from death.

THEN, in the fullness of time, came Jesus, the author of Life HIMSELF! And this Jesus said to His people “I AM the Life! Unless you eat MY Body and drink MY Blood, you have no LIFE in you!” What Jesus offered us was TRUE life-giving bread and cup of salvation - transubstantiated into HIS life giving Body and Blood - not the useless flesh or blood of an animal, which our forefathers “ate and died”.

Jews to this day eat only kosher meat (with blood drained). Muslims eat only halal meat (with blood drained). Of the three great Abrahamic faiths, only Christians are no longer under such a stricture. We may eat non kosher/non halal meats. Ask yourself why. Why does it no longer matter if we eat the blood of mere creatures? Could it be because WE drink from the cup of true life giving blood as well?

My friend, truly and sincerely study the Christian faith. When you discover the TRUE beauty of what God has done for you, and what (or rather, “Who”) He has given you so that you might “have eternal life”, you’ll beg on bended knee for the Eucharist one day.

Gotta run now. God bless.

First of all, Jesus is spirit as part of the Trinity. John 4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."
To say that God is a personage of flesh agrees with Joseph Smith and Mormonism.
Second, are you saying that Jesus comes to earth in the flesh at communion? If so, that violates Scriptures about His return.
Matthew 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
In fact, if you are asserting Jesus return to earth at every Eucharist, Jesus Himself said don’t believe such things.
Mat_24:26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

That would be a good parallel, except the Jews were not to eat the blood. I found a few verses to support that.
Genesis 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
Leviticus 3:17 It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.
Leviticus 7:26 Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings.
Leviticus 17:12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.
Leviticus 17:14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.
Leviticus 19:26 Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times.
Deuteronomy 12:16 Only ye shall not eat the blood; ye shall pour it upon the earth as water.
Deuteronomy 12:23 Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh.
Deuteronomy 12:27 And thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon the altar of the LORD thy God: and the blood of thy sacrifices shall be poured out upon the altar of the LORD thy God, and thou shalt eat the flesh.
Deuteronomy 15:23 Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water.
I doubt Jesus would have commanded something so blatantly sinful to an observant Jew.

We don’t have to observe kosher laws because we aren’t saved by our works. Also, Gentiles Christians are forbidden to eat blood, Acts 15:20 and 15:29. Looks like I’m not the only one who needs to study.😃
In John 6:40 Jesus also says everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life. If the Eucharist is so important why isn’t it in this sentence?
Lastly, Jesus is the author of life, no doubt, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t question interpretations of what Jesus says. It is a poor argument to contend that Jesus can do whatever He wants. How about this, I’m starting a doctrine that says all Christians must either become prostitutes or tax collectors. I have Scriptural backing too.
Matthew 21:31 Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you.
And I answer objections by saying Jesus can tell us to do whatever He wants, and if He wants us to be whores or tax collectors who are we to question Him?
Jesus couldn’t do whatever He wanted, He had to obey the will of the Father.

Is your faith as strong as the early martyrs?

Speaking of fire and the Holy Spirit…
I don’t know. I’ve spent 13 years as a prison guard witnessing to killers, rapists, drug dealers, gang bangers, etc…🙂 Also dealing with government bureaucrats and lawyers,

First of all, Jesus is spirit as part of the Trinity. John 4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."
To say that God is a personage of flesh agrees with Joseph Smith and Mormonism.

Mat_24:26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
  1. Jesus being part of the Trinity does not mean He is not fully God and fully Man. Again you are raising a false dichotomy along the lines of “because Jesus is spirit He can’t also be flesh at the same time.” Did Jesus not ascend bodily into heaven? At His ascension was not the dust of the earth placed on the throne of glory? Or did Jesus leave His (glorified) Body behind? If so, where do you reckon we might find it?
  2. Jesus’ physical presence in the Eucharist is sacramental, hidden under the accidents of bread and wine. Comparing this (hidden but nevertheless Real) Presence to His “Second Coming” when all men shall behold Him face to face in all His glory is a poor comparison. They are two entirely different events in God’s plan of salvation.
  3. If “they” shall say to you behold he is in the desert… Another poor comparison. It isn’t some “they” who are saying “Behold He is here or there…”. It is Jesus Himself (holding bread in His hands) saying “Behold THIS is my body”. It is Jesus Himself (holding a cup in His hands) saying “Behold, THIS is my Blood”. Jesus is not some “they”, is He?
That would be a good parallel, except the Jews were not to eat the blood. I found a few verses to support that.I doubt Jesus would have commanded something so blatantly sinful to an observant Jew.
I’ve already explained the reason and purpose for the OT prohibition (regarding the consumption of blood) in my other response. God doesn’t do things just for the heck of it. Can YOU explain why the prohibition existed? I’m contending that it existed as a preparation over centuries for the day when God would nourish man with TRUE life giving blood: that of His own Son, our Paschal Lamb. God detested the sacrifices of the Old Testament. He raged against them, saying “Do I eat the flesh of cows or drink the blood of bullocks?” They were worthless to Him - and to us. the Israelites were obliged to sacrifice animals ONLY because they had once constructed a false god out of a golden calf. God was so angry He demanded that ALL of the Israelites’ flocks of animals should be slaughtered rightaway. It was only after Moses begged Him to relent, saying that if they did that they’d have no meat to eat in the desert that God relented, but insisted that every day an animal must be sacrificed to Him (and its blood returned to Him) to remind us daily that a) an animal is not a god and b) its flesh and blood is incapable of giving us life.

THEN came JESUS. THEN came the only sacrifice acceptable to God. THEN came the only “clean oblation” that was pleasing to God ("From the rising of the sun even to its setting there is offered to my Name a clean oblation…🙂 THEN came the only sacrifice, the flesh and blood of which would give us life - provided we partook of “it”, just as all sacrifices were required to be partaken of - by God’s own decree. EVERY Jew had to eat a portion of the sacrificed lamb at Passover - or be declared cast off (excommunicated) from the tribe. Likewise, every Christian is required to partake of the Blood of the New Covenant, or… you guess the rest. Hint: St Paul spelled it out - when he spoke about why so many were becoming sick and dying…

We don’t have to observe kosher laws because we aren’t saved by our works. Also, Gentiles Christians are forbidden to eat blood, Acts 15:20 and 15:29. Looks like I’m not the only one who needs to study.😃

The Jews WEREN’T saved by their works or their kosher laws. The old law was there only to keep the Jews faithful to God until their Savior arrived. Nevertheless, you still have to answer WHY God instituted the kosher laws - what was their origin, meaning and purpose? Until you understand that you won’t understand the Eucharist, or for that matter, the Sacrifice of God’s Perfect Lamb on Calvary. ALL of the Old Testament pointed to the New as you know, so ALL of it had great meaning. Everything in the Old Testament points to something in the New. So what did the sacrifices of the Old Testament (and each of their component parts) point to? Why do Catholic churches have altars? Why is there an altar in heaven? What is the purpose of an altar? What is the function of a High Priest at an altar? What happens once the Victim has been sacrificed? What follows?

What do you imagine “believing in the Son” actually means? Does it allow you NOT to accept Jesus’ words in childlike faith? Like, when He says of bread which He is holding in His hand “TAKE. EAT. THIS IS MY BODY”? Or when He says of a cup of wine which He is offering to you, “TAKE AND DRINK. THIS IS MY BLOOD”?
Lastly, Jesus is the author of life, no doubt, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t question interpretations of what Jesus says. It is a poor argument to contend that Jesus can do whatever He wants. How about this, I’m starting a doctrine that says all Christians must either become prostitutes or tax collectors. I have Scriptural backing too.

Jesus couldn’t do whatever He wanted, He had to obey the will of the Father.
Now you’re speaking as though Jesus’ will could, in practice, be different from the will of His Father in any matter!!!

As for you, a mere human, constructing some doctrine based on your understanding or interpretation of the Word of God, or assumed authority therefrom, how does that have ANYTHING at all to do with what JESUS (GOD) does?

GOD says, “Let there be light!” and there is light.
GOD says, “Let the dry land appear!” and dry land appears.
GOD says, “Your sins are forgiven!” and your sins are forgiven.
GOD says, “Lazarus, come forth!” and a dead man rises.
GOD says, “This is my body!” and mere bread becomes His sacrificed body.
GOD says, “This is my blood!” and a cup of wine becomes His redeeming blood.
GOD’s ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts. God’s words are not like our “words”. God’s Word is omnipotent! It creates reality. It changes reality! That’s why He’s GOD!
