Well now you have me confused.

Please be direct.

Purgatory has been explained and backed thoroughly.

What exactly is your argument?

The teaching of purgatory is not without risk, especially for new Catholics. It is a teaching that cannot be supported from scripture, and this will almost certainly alienate those who care about what scripture does and doesn’t support.

It most certainly is backed by scripture.

Several have posted the scriptures and the specifics behind this.

Each of your replies to this were a simple disregard with no alternate explanation given.

You are starting to appear disingenuous.

If you are to claim no scripture backing for purgatory, you need to address each one that was provided and explain why it is not a backing and what exactly it is otherwise.

Although I’m not Catholic, and my understanding of Catholic teachings is not exactly advanced, I have come to wonder if the teaching of purgatory might be harmful, especially for new Catholics. What do you say?
Truth is never harmful. It’s liberating

While the name isn’t there in scripture, scripture describes purgation by fire for each person after they die

Hi vz71, The burden of proof that scripture supports purgatory is on those who assert that purgatory is a scriptural doctrine. I haven’t seen any scriptural support for the teaching of purgatory here.

Where in scripture is this?

That you deny what is clearly written in this thread does not help your credibility.

The burden of proof has been met.
Several times.

Denial of this proof now requires an answer.

You purport to begin with a concern that teaching purgatory to new Catholics is “risky” — perhaps suggesting (quite rightly) that it is easy to explain poorly or misunderstand … but in the end you have revealed that you believe the teaching to be false. So, y’know, thanks and all, but we’ll just keep on teaching the Faith our way.

As was stated earlier, the proofs have been given.

Your denial indicates either a willful blindness or a complete lack of integrity.

Is there any possibility that you might have blindly accepted that purgatory is a biblical doctrine?

No.
I know the scriptures behind the teaching well.

Some have been provided in this thread.

That the evidence is presented cannot be refuted.
At least not without losing integrity.

If you wish to debate it, present your case.

I clicked it. What is it in this passage that makes you convinced that it is about purgatory, and what is it telling us is to be purged out of us?

Yes, I pointed out quite a while up-thread that he seemed to have begun this thread with deception. Oddly enough, he never responded to that.

to clarify

From those passages (emphasis mine)

“each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day[a] will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.”

IOW, A person on the Day, (the day they die) will go through a purifying fire, but will be saved but only as one escaping through the fire. All the garbage in one’s life will be burned up causing suffering, and only the good they have done remains. That describes purgatory.

That is only for people who don’t die in mortal sin. Those souls go immediately to hell

There is no purgatory. No human will enter heaven based on good deeds. There is no amount of good works one can do to attain heaven. Heaven is attained only by the wonderful grace of God. It is his gift, if a human obeys his laws and believes in Jesus.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

The apostle Paul didn’t say God’s grace shall be given to the believers only if you believe and go through torment after the physical death of the body. That’s just silly.

All humans who have lived remain dead except 3, Jesus, Enoch, and Elijah. The dead will remain dead until Jesus returns.
