]going to bed good night and God Bless!!! Pick up on tomorrow
Before i go i want to respond, the bible was written for all to believe, but in the wrong hands it can be very missinterpreted. The C.C. was given a gift, The Holy Bible to share with the world and was also the one that pass on the word. They protected it for the very reasons that have us in turmoil today, namely all the different interpretations which created all kinds of churches and beliefs that are in dissagreement. All the dissent and dissagreement is separating us daily. I would never doubt any protestants love for Jesus, my problem is that so many are being missled and have been taught so many lies about The Church Christ Built the catholic church. Open your eyes and your mind and research the early teachings of the early church and you may have a different perspective about things. Until tomorow God Bless!!!]
There you go, putting words in my mouth! I donât disregard what was taught in the past; I read my Bible every day! I believe that the Bible, Godâs Holy Word, was written for all who believe in Jesus and trust God! And thank you, I am smarter than that! I just donât agree with everything the catholic church teaches! Whoâs to say certain things have not been changed or tweaked over the years?
Jesus came to fulfill. We find this in each of the Sacraments. Why do people continue to use Old Testament scripture when speaking of confession and priests, because burnt offerings and sin offerings went out with the old covenant!Hebrews 4:16 declares,âLet us boldly enter the throneroom of grace!â So you see, you have no need of a priest; you can approach God on your own(one on one). 1John1:9 says that if we confess our sins unto HimâŚ" And He didnât tell me to go see a catholic priest, either! Plus, Jesus told me and you not to cal any man on this earth Father!
But that is exactly what Jesus did. Please read the link that I provided. Jesus spoke Aramaic. So what He said was your name is Kepha and upon this Kepha I will build my Church. To put it in English Your name is Rock and upon this rock I will build my Church. Peter is a transliteration of the Greek word rock. It is because of the Greek translation that this had become muddled. Actually it is because there are those who do not wish to acknowledge Peter as the leader that Jesus made him. It would be an odd thing to name someone a thing without it having a great importance. Name changing in the bible was always momentous. Then you add in the scripture that follows that he was given the keys and it becomes just obstinate to deny Catholic teaching. So Jesus didnât actually say that Simon you are a rock. He said Simon you ARE rock. Jesus knew then that Peter would deny Him but He also knew that Peter would die for Him.]
King James Version! And Iâll read that verse again, but I donât think it says,"Peter you are a rock!"Does that sort of thing happen at catholic churches too? If so, I will continue to stay away![]()
You are the rock, You, like Peter, realize who Christ is. That is something to build on. Jesus knew the clergy of the time for what they were⌠self-righteous men who were too worried with tradition to understand the spirit of the word. I donât believe he preached that his followers were to be bound to an earthly authoritarian self selected group. (neither did our countryâs founders)Than Jesus was wrong when He breathed on the Apostles and said who sins you forgive they are forgiven. Those sins you retain shall be retained? Again you demonstrate your lack of knowledge of the Bible. The Sacrament of Anointing of the sick may only be given by a priest. No you did not give the Sacrament and If you believed you were attempting to do that than you are in grave sin. The Bible is meant for all but not everything in the Bible was meant for each individual to do. The Bible in its present form did not exist for 300 years. If it was meant for all, than why didnât Jesus write it and give it to His Apostles. He told the the Apostles to PREACH not to WRITE. No where in the Bible can you see a command for the Apostles to write what Jesus said but to PREACH. The WORD was meant to be heard not read. Jesus established a Church. He ordained His priest to carry the WORD and to teach us what to do. Only a person full of PRIDE will tell Jesus. You didnât really mean to establish a Church. I know what you really meant despite the clear evidence that you did mean that "You are ROCK and upon this Rock I will build my Church.
Nothing in scripture would substantiate this. I am not the rock. I am part of the Church. That Church was built on Peter. Jesus said so.You are the rock, You, like Peter, realize who Christ is. That is something to build on.
But that is what He did do. He established His priesthood. He claimed each Apostle. If what you claimed were true Jesus would not have bothered to assemble the Apostles. What you believe is not what is in Scripture. The renaming and the giving of the keys prove that.Jesus knew the clergy of the time for what they were⌠self-righteous men who were too worried with tradition to understand the spirit of the word. I donât believe he preached that his followers were to be bound to an earthly authoritarian self selected group. (neither did our countryâs founders)
I agree.Early christians lived amoung the most illiterate, paganistic, and cruel people of the old world.
After Jesus performed a miracle for Him.Three centuries after Christâs sacrifice, the religion was adopted by these peopleâs emperor.
I donât think it takes an emperor to know this.Any emperor knows that the people need to relate to their new faith.
An OLD argument that would take a great time to refute. Did you know that the early Christian adapted pagan things as well? Look into why we have evergreen on mantle pieces. There is nothing wrong with taken ideas from other cultures. Every faith has some truth because God gives it to them. They just donât have the entire picture. No one is surprised that many pagan attitudes became accepted and embraced.
Shame on you:tsktsk: You donât come right out and say your anti-catholic attitude. To say this was business of the Church is disrespectful not to mention a lie. I will consider it ignorance of what you donât know but have heard from other anti-Catholics.Pray to this one if you want this, that one if you want that. Make special offerings to them. It was good business for the emperor and the authorities of the church.
This too is ignorant and offensive.Maryâs story becomes similar to the likes of Athena.
This is ignorant. Before you condemn what you do not understand or know you should seek out information. This is a twisting of what Catholics believe. We ask the saints to intercede for us. Just as we ask friends here on earth to pray for us. No difference accept to those who are bigoted.Ask St. Isadore for good crops.
I may be reading into this something which you did not intend. In the new world the Maya were at the peek of their influence. They too relied on the priestâs perpetual blood sacrifice and awe inspiring art and architecture to hold their subjects devotion. Offer sacrifices and prayers to chac if you good crops. The Maya self destucted before they recognized as many cult figures as did the Romans.
God gives us free will. That includes the freedom to reject His Church.God obviously allows this, thanks to him he leads others in different directions
]Jesus came to fulfill. We find this in each of the Sacraments.
circumcision fulfilled through Baptism
Passover fulfilled through The Eucharist
sin offerings- through confession to a priest.
Whose sins you forgive will be forgiven Jesus said. Before He said this He breathed on them symbolizing the Holy Spirit. You cannot understand what Jesus did without the foundation that came through the Old Testament.
]Nothing in scripture would substantiate this. I am not the rock. I am part of the Church. That Church was built on Peter. Jesus said so.

They too relied means that you think Catholics have this same attitude but again you are ignorant about our believes. We donât believe in a perpetual blood sacrifice. It would behoove you to find out what we do believe. Our Catechism is on line. Start there. Or this site has many tracts covering your misunderstanding.
God gives us free will. That includes the freedom to reject His Church.
That is plucked out of nowhere. Reaching for straws I guess or maybe redherrings]
Just as you reject anyone who is noncatholic![]()
Out of where? The only one striking out is you.]
Strike three, youâre outta there! Wow, 0 for three![]()
No it was replace with Baptism. Unless you are born again of water and the Spirit remember that? He told the Apostles to go and Baptize in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit. Baptism is what brings us into the family of God just like circumcision did for the Jews. Remember Jesus said He came to fulfill.Circumcision of the body was replaced by circumcision of the heart.
What do you think communion is? It is our Eucharist which is called communion also. I guess your strike was a hit out of the ball park.Passover became communion,
.and sin offerings became the ability and freedom to come to Christ for confession(1John 1:9)
Matthew 16:19 âI will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.â
Matthew 16:19 "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven."Matthew 18:18 "Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.
John 20:23 Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.
Your math is fuzzy. I got all of them right. You will have to expand on the rock that Moses struck. Oddly you capitalizes it.Oops, you got one right, it is so much clearer when you realize that Jesus was with God even in the Garden of Eden, right through the Old Testament! Remember the Rock that Moses struck? Yep!
Speak for yourself my dear buddy. See lb you guys accuse us on one hand on never changing our teaching, then the other say we do. Thats what happens in scriptures too. You guys say it says one thing, then another. For anyone who doesnât believe that scripture speaks to ALL of us, then tell me; why bother reading the Bible? What does Matthew 4:4 mean to everyone? How about Phillipians 4:13, or Jeremiah 29:11? Through Jesus Christ, and His horrible death(thank you Lord!), on the Cross, God has become more accessible to us!Sure, when Jesus was teaching and walking with His disciples, they were the recipients of His wise sayings and Commandments; but down through history, we have all learned from the parables and scriptures! The apostles are gone, so now each [SIGN]and every one of us is charged with"feeding the sheep[/SIGN]!" So, as long as we have breath, we will continue to debate what scripture really means, relying heavily on guidance from the Holy Spirit!
Not me lb I love protestants, Jews, all Religions. I just donât agree that they have the gift of the HS to interpret scripture. Got a question for you?]
Just as you reject anyone who is noncatholic![]()
What is a answer âlike thisâ]Yep I do. I believe the rock was Peter"s faith not Peter. If it is not Peters who is itYep I do. I believe the rock was Peter"s faith not Peter.
Tweets, we got a problem then. IF the Rock was Peters faith why did Jesus refer to only himself, Abraham, and Peter as the rock then. Do we not have faith, why are we not called the ROCK then?Yep I do. I believe the rock was Peter"s faith not Peter.
Hi again=tweetymom;6331428]Thank you I think you are a nice person too, But All the CC teaches is not backed up by scripture.
Thank you for your wonderful post. I am grateful for what Jesus did for me and the Holy Spirit, without whom I would be nothing. I am thankful I am a new person in Christ Jesus. For anyone who doesnât believe that scripture speaks to ALL of us, then tell me; why bother reading the Bible? What does Matthew 4:4 mean to everyone? How about Phillipians 4:13, or Jeremiah 29:11? The word for Peter is rock and that is the Greek word unon this ROCK I will build My Church, how much more do you neednot sure what bible you read but in mine he refers to Peter as the rock that he will build his church upon. if people would listen to what the early church fathers taught us their would not be so much dissagreement. Seems today people will follow any bible thumping preacher that screams and yells.
You are wrong here,The Cathloic Church was here for about 1500 year it was the protestants that reject the Church and now we have over 32,000 protestants givin us their pravate interpretation of the Bible]

OK=tweetymom;6331537]1. Purgatory ,which this thread is supposed to be about. Not what I believe in.
And you replied to me with this why?OK
Remember what I said about âimplied teachingâ that have a Biblical foundation.?
Can we agree that God is Good? Yes?
Can we agree that God in and absolute sense MUST be Good? Again Yes?
Can we agree that being JUST and FAIR are good things Yes?
Can we thn agree that God in an absolute sense MUST BE Good and Fair? Yes?
Can we agree that 1 J. 1: 8-10 is an accurate acessment of humanities condition?
Can we agree with the fact that sinning has hidden effects that must too be paid back? What do I mean?
Letâs say I steal $10.00 from you. Later I am truly sorry and as Jn. 20:20-23, Jesus Himself tells me, I Confess my sins. The priest knows I am sorry and I commit to not stealing again. The Priest grants Absolution and GOD forgives me. END OF STORY? NO!
Why not? Because you must be repaid! Ammends are due.
So hereâs another example. Joe Blow has an affair. Later he regrets what he has done, is truly sorry, Confesses his [this time Mortal sin], is comitted with Godâs help NOT to sin this way again. Once again Absolution is granted and** God forgives his sin. ** End of story? No, even though the sin is forgiven and forgotten, there remains the lasting effect of this sin.
Maybe this will make it clearer?
I used to teach HS religious Education class. One day I cut a bunch of 2"x8" new boards into 2â strips. I took them to class, pased then out without explaination, and passed out hammers and nails. On th bck of the boards I wrote âyour SB.â I gave no furthter explainations beyond letting them know they would also be asked to remove the nails; and by the way. âBefore you began, look carefully at your board and make sure its in good shape.â I made teams and let them âgo at it.â
After awhile I said, STOP. Now remove the nails. [SOME WERE VERY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE, some easy.] Then I colted the nails, wrapped them in aluminum foil and had one of the kids place hem in the trashcan. I then took the trashcan with the nails and hid it out of sight under the desk.
So what is this all about I asked? And you can expect from a group of kids some of the smart-aleck replies I got back.
I told them tonights class in on th Sacrament of Confession, its effects and how it works. I really had there attention. I explained that the âyour SBâ stood for; your soul[board].
Before you sinned, your soul like the boards were in good shape. The nails, representing sins [some serious, some not so serious] mess it up. Confession, removes the sins, just like you removed the nails. And God not only forgives yor sins, but forgets about them. So like the nails are hidden from you, so are your sins, hidden from God.
So you sinned, your sorry, God fogives your sins, end of story right? NO! OOK AT YOUR SOUL BOARDS. Whatâs different about them? The nail holes right?
** Matt.5:48** âYou, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfectâ.
** 1Pet.1:15** "but as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; since it is written, âYou shall be holy, for I am holy.â
I then had the students look up these two verses and read them, and asked what they meant? I went on to explain the Sacrament of Confesion is necesry for he forgiveness of our sins, and we looked up and read. [1 Jn.1:8-, 1 Jn. 5: 16-17, and John 20:20-23.]
I then explained God sayâs things for very specific reasons, and can NEVER make a mistake or be wrong. When God sayâs something; it means exactly what God is saying [unless its a fable or moral story, thn its the moral, not the story that i important.]
In this message of being perfect, being holy, we are told that we must actually become âlike Godâ in order to merit heaven. ONLY those who are perfect are permitted into His Presence [like the Good Angels fo example].
Even if we Confess our sins, are truly sorry, but have not âre-paidâ for the harm our sins have done to our souls, to others, and to Godâs Church; we canot enter heaven.
So God who is PERFECT LOVE provides a varity of ways to âmake things right again.â Chairatble works, prayer, other Sacraments, especially Eucharist, and personal sacrifices all help pay this debt.
*Still if we should die before repaying in full; [as often happens] God does NOT stop loving us; does NOT stop offering us a way for us to get into His Divine presence. And that is why a God of Justice, a God of Perfect love, offers us Purgatory; HIS WAY to stay in relationship with us, and to permit us, even after duying while not yet PERFECTED, to stay in relationship with Him.
Its a perfect plan, by a Perfect God, who loves each of us Perfectly, anexpects that in return from us.*
Love and prayers,
Pat
