You have already stood up and made your poinjt; further, you took it to the department Chair and at least attempted to take it to the president of the University.

You have made your point and done what you can. For all those who insist you should get up and fight, what more can you do? Practically, that is?

There is wisdom in picking your battles. You are student, along with other students; there; you probably have more impact by talking with other students than you do trying to pick a fight with this prof.

Grades can matter, particularly later on. You do not have a moral duty to fight with this person until he yells uncle; in fact, you do not have an ability to fight with him. He is a professor, and if the Chair is not going to do anything, there is nothing further you can do. There is essentially nothing you can do, except waste time and make a spectacle of yourself by persuing it further. Get on with the class.

There is essentially nothing you can do,
otm I respectfully disagree.

This is a quote from Karl Keatings “Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing” page:
If you don’t stand with us, who will? And if we don’t defeat the dissenters now, when?

To the OP:
If this is true and there is not some misunderstanding, perhaps email Karl Keating or another CA associate and maybe he’ll include this in the “Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing” campaign. Keep thinking about this (don’t rush) and perhaps over time you will discover a way that you can be shrewd about this.

:hmmm: When I was in confession with my first priest he always had me pray praise and thanksgiving, but this was after confessing sins, discussion about alternative aactions, and reconcilliation prayer, and contrition and any intercessions I wanted to pray and then the P&T at the end. I thought it was normal? But then I did take a while in there so tried to wait till I was at the end of the line.😊
So hang in there if your purpose is truth from the heart you are ok. Speak the truth to her in love and kindness. Dessert

I can’t disagree more. Dbacks may have counteracted the professor THIS time. But what happens next semester when a whole new class comes through? What about the classes he’s already taught this misinformation to? If he’s wrong about this topic, what other lies has he spread about the church? I support dbacks, and think he should pursue this all the way to the Dean or President or whoever until this guy changes his teaching or they get someone else in there. For all we know, this guy’s got an anti-catholic agenda.

I wouldn’t only take it to the school, I’d get the local church and priest involved. I even would be willing to email the school if necessary to protest the wrong teachings of the church.

So today I presented my argumentation for the real purpose of the Sacrament of Reconciliation to the class. I presented forth verses from the Bible with my explanation of each, quotes from the ECF’s, the conversations that John Salza put up on his site, scripturecatholic.com, about the Sacrament, the Catechism with several highlights on key phrases, quotes from Pope Benedict which were made a month ago, and the document from the Second Vatican Council with highlighted sections to show that the professor’s stance is wrong.
Code:
I made it to the catechism before the professor interrupted me and dismissed the class. I was nervous, but my classmates followed along since I gave each a copy of my "treatise" so they can read it later. They know that I am right, because I have presented so much evidence and support that the Sacrament of Reconciliation is to receive forgiveness from God and the Church, not to give thanks to God for forgiving us prior. Thanks for your prayers!
Was the teacher mad? Did he say anything to you after class or try to rebuff you at any point? He just dismissed the class before you could finish?

He stood with us. What realisticly do you expect him to do? He is a student, not an administrator, or a member of the Board of Reagents. It is time to tend to classes. I am not suggesting he do nothing and ignore the proble, but his first duty in life is to be a student, not a martyr pointlessly. I suggested he could do more by speaking with students than in persuing the prof. If you have something specific in mind except writing Karl, speak up.

Have you been to college? Or perhaps with all the enthusiasm you are exhibiting, you are still in college. You must be kidding; you have never heard of a contract, or never heard of tortious interference with contract. The prof has a contract to teach, and unless they made him take an oath to be true to the Magisterium, there is about negative 5 this student can do.

People don’t get themselves dismissed for what the prof said, and if you want to get upset about it, my response is “welcome to the real world”. Almost all “catholic” colleges are independent corporations, and are not answerable to the Church. The bishops have the issue of the mandatum and most have been unable or unwilling to use it to do anything about profs such as this.

Cardinal Levada recently issued a notice about a theologian’s works; he didn’t sanction the theologian, and the issue , if I remember correctly, went back to when Ratzinger headed the dicastery. No one moves swiftly in the Church in spite of the horror that might cause you.

And talk to the local priest? Like that has anything to do with anything? He would get just as far talking with the local mayor.

And other students next semester might have this prof? Yeah, that is likely. And you think this student could do anything at all about that? What planet… oh, never mind.🤷

The prof has a contract to teach there. Being speculative is not grounds for firing much of anyone. That is the life of college profs. And if the prof has tenure, it is rumored that an act of God could not remove him…

Dr. Kathleen (I forgot her last name) who said the same he did, that Reconciliation is simply giving thanks to God. She gave a history of the Sacrament and how it was celebrated through the ages, and talked about the Second Vatican Council, which made it to be just a thanksgiving Sacrament. !
Did she end the presentation with “maybe the church will finally get it right” I saw this video recently in a class. I think her name was Kathleen. If it is the same video…then count her out as a heretic.

Was her name Kathleen Chesto? if so ignore every single word she said. SHe is a heretic.

You know what…SHE DID!!! As to OTJM, it is that kind of thinking that allowed Arius and Martin Luther to spread their heresies and lies. You’re just like Chesto, “Maybe the Chuch will finally get it right.” That’s the thinking I’m fighting against. I fight for Jesus, not the Lie. Which side are you on?

I also have the 34 pages of documentation and proof that I gave to my professor and to the class on my computer. If anybody would like to see it, please PM me with your e-mail address and I will gladly sign it. And yes, the class was amazed when they saw me with this gigantic stack of paper being passed out. It even took me 40 minutes for the 25 copies to be printed and had to get the attendant in the computer lab to refill the printer with paper.

Correction. I meant “send”, not “sign.” Of course, I’d be glad to sign it for you as well 😉

Of course the devil is going to go after confession primarily, it’s the easest way to snatch souls, souls Jesus died for. My heart breaks…

AMEN! The devil knows the value of confession all too well…
and it breaks my heart, too, that so many hurting souls are being deceived from knowing and experiencing the true power of our Lord by keeping themselves from the healing and graces our Lord gives us through this wonderful Sacrament of Reconciliation. When regularly attending confession… one is able to avoid sin with the help of God’s graces! Go God!!!

I respectfully disagree. He may be a professor, but he IS NOT God. I believe we all contain a little of God’s wisdom, and the Holy Spirit will use who He wants to get God’s Truth out when He wills it. I am also reminded of David and Goliath. Size or credentials mean nothing to God. I pray for a peaceful outcome on behalf of both parties and that God’s Truth will prevail!

I’m so sorry for your predicament. You’ve already shown great courage, and I really admire that. I recommend asking for the intercession of St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Albert the Great. I’ll keep you in my prayers.

The attack on Confession continues. I mean, it’s one thing to say that Confession (or all the Sacraments, really) involve thanksgiving. But to downplay or even deny that Confession is about repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation with God?–that doesn’t even make sense! Confession is its own Sacrament, with its own purpose.

To suggest otherwise is to suggest that Confession really serves no purpose. And that is dangerous. Without Confession helping us to maintain ourselves in a state of grace, we can’t receive grace from any of the other Sacraments! In fact, with regard to the Eucharist, it puts us in danger of commiting sacrilege–a very mortal sin.

I hope that professor changes his tune and that God will protect and strengthen all the students who are subjected to his teachings.

“Also like parasites, the dissenters have gradually burrowed their way into the very structure of the Church.

…Many of them work in positions as pastoral assistants, teachers at Catholic schools and seminaries, or directors of religious education.”

I’m with you, dbacks. But first, in front of the class, I would ask him to clarify his statement. If confession is not for the forgiveness of sins, what is? Then, state plainly what the Magisterium teaches so that everyone in the class knows what the teaching is. I would make him explain himself at the very least. Then at least he would know people around him are thinking and not just swallowing his bunk. It’s time we spoke out and informed these people we’re not taking it anymore! (At least you knew enough to question it. Good for you)

This is probably just the tip of the iceberg. Staying in his class gives him credibility.

I have asked him in front of the class several weeks ago, immediately after he’s given the history of the Sacrament and it’s purpose in today’s times, “Are you going against the Catechism?” His answer, in front of the class, is, “Yes.” This past Thursday I have handed out 34 pages of documentation from many sources to him and to the class. I have 34 pages of proof of my position, all he has is a video of somebody who is known as a heretic. Who will the class believe? If you’d like to see my documentation, PM me with your email address and I will send it to you and to anybody who’s interested in what I told the class.

Yes, I have been to college. I graduated with a degree even. And I stood up and questioned my teachers and what they taught, even took a case to the dean where the teacher was wrong and won. Not in a case like this, certainly, but where I knew the teacher was wrong and I got the school to stop them from teaching the wrong info.

What this teacher is spouting is WRONG and heretical to the catholic church. Allowing them to continue is to allow blasphemy and harm to the church. Apparently you wouldn’t stand up for the church. Thankfully the apostles were made of stronger stuff.
