Bizarre to me that some of the same people who demonize US politicians as “socialists” are so happy to sing the praises of a murderous former KGB agent who is working hard to restore what we used to call the Evil Empire to its former glory.
That charge can be turned around, as well.

It is just as bizarre that some of the same people who are so happy to embrace socialism and Bernie Sanders’ communism, are equally happy to sing the “collusion” narrative against anyone who opposes them being aligned with Putin, a “murderous former KGB agent” of the same socialist/communist system they are so ready to embrace and espouse.

Up is down and left is right. Confusing times.

Be careful. You don’t want to be flagged for being uncharitable to Comrade Putin. I was suspended over it once on the old CAF.

Putin can not challenge aborsions, he is under the infliuence of people who prove him that aborsions save the life of many women, and anti-aborsion laws wil bring more damage(bigger statistics of unsuccessful, risky, secret aborsions)
He openly answers by these arguments.
RO-Church monopoly on spirituality helps Putin in large degree to strengthen his power.
But to extend the territorial borders by fake orchestrated brothers-saving schemes, to liquidate truth seekers (political opponents, or critisizing journalists)its a necessity of his clanish regime.

I don’t think Putin is a secret agnostic/atheist who is solely using religion to gain support and followers.

I think he’s a Christian that believes in God but he also doesn’t have a well-formed conscience and he rationalizes to himself why he supposedly needs to do such and such a thing, such as take out a political opponent or invade X or Y territory. So he’s a Christian as well as a sensationalist who does many un-Christian things.

That’s just the impression I get from him. Plenty of violent Christian monarchs with malformed consciences over the centuries would fit into the same category.

We need to pray for world leaders, including those we consider our enemies. If we say critical things about a world leader - even if those things are true - but we don’t also pray for that person, then I believe we are going to be held accountable for that someday.

That’s a sobering thought isn’t it?
Especially today when we can post on line and who knows how many people read it. It carries a heavier weight than a chat with a friend over coffee.

Can I just put this out there as maybe an explanation why the warranted outrage against Putin goes by the wayside in favour of his supposed virtues?

Here is the list of journalists that have killed for reporting crimes and inhumane acts during Putins reign,

2000 - 2008

2012 - 2018

If no one speaks for the Russian people? That is sobering to me and perhaps nations who can actually speak will be judged as cowardly and appeasing.

Can you give some examples of how the Catholic Church is being suppressed in the US today? I’d really like to know to be more aware.

Putin is an international thug and mass murderer. You can’t take anything he says or does publicly seriously. It’s all slight of hand while he continues his reign of terror.

Communism maintains control over information the media can transmit.
I find our current situation in the US and Canada is much like this. One opinion, and a different point of view which is conservative, seems to get this hostile backlash that it should not be allowed to exist.

If there is a national prolife event, no one wants to cover it or mention it. If there is 3 women at a university holding a sign, somehow that makes national news.

We don’t actually call our news coverage communist but I think there can be an argument made. It feels very much like being funneled into a cow shoot, everyone is made to go in the same direction, don’t even entertain the thought that a fetus is a baby or any other ridiculous idea.

But Putin is going to continue using the Church to promote the State, right? Didn’t “Mother Russia” pressure the ROC to support it from the pulpit during World War II, giving it a little bit of freedom in exchange for this, only to pull the carpet out from under it after it exhausted its usefulness post-war?

Russia isn’t friendly to faith, make no mistake. It only allows religion inasmuch as it can make use of it.

It would be really nice and tempting for the sake of saving face to say that Putin isn’t a Christian, but unfortunately we have to just own up to the fact that he is. Denial doesn’t get us anywhere and it just ruins our credibility even further.

Being a Christian doesn’t mean that a person is good or moral or just or praiseworthy or that they have a properly formed conscience or that they consistently obey the teachings of their faith. But he clearly does have religious convictions and he identifies as a Christian. Yes: he is an autocrat and yes he deserves to be in jail.

It’s not like Western nations don’t have a long history of Christian leaders and Christian public figures that did/do gravely immoral things. It’s not an exclusively Russian problem. It’s a human problem.

You are aware that the most popular news outlet in America is very conservative and does, in fact, deliver boat loads of conservative opinions and covers conservative events, all while making billions of dollars?

Sorry, you said US and Canada so I thought you were including both. In America, it seems like the conservative side dominates much of the news media today.
