*“Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.” was added to the Roman Catholic version in 1568, and probably had lots to do with turning scores of Lutherans against the prayer.
What? What in the world could any christian have against the above? Isn’t Mary the mother of God? Yes, she is Christ’s mother. What would any christian have against having Mary (who has Christ’s ear in heaven) pray for them and interceding on their behalf?

Sounds like pride to me. The same pride that cast Satan and his followers out of heaven to begin with.

I will give you a big benefit of the doubt and assume you are sincere in your incredulousness and not just playing dumb.

Nowhere does scripture teach us to ask saints to intercede for us, besides, we already have an advocate:My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
1 John 2:1

Enough of this highfalutin gibberish. The disrespect shown to "Our Lady’ is ridiculous. Your scripture quote did nothing to answer the question.

How can any christian reject that Mary is the mother of God? If you do, you are no christian!

How can any christian object (outside of pride) in people asking ‘Our Lady’ to intercede for them? If she is good enough for Christ, she is more than good enough for the rest of us.

I’m a southern baptist convert and even my southern baptist family sees nothing wrong in the above. They may not pray the rosary, etc, but there is nothing, absolutely nothing wrong with the two issues above, PERIOD.

It is so nice that I belong to a Church that has the entire faith, and doesn’t filter and choose and cherry pick their scriptures to force their square peg into a round hole. And thank God we don’t worship a Bible like so many other faiths seem to do. I think some will try to tell Christ he is wrong on some issues when he returns to earth, if it contradicts their shallow, misguided interpretations.

Scripture teaches us that saints and angels are cheering for us. Scripture teaches us that God is the God of the living, not the dead.

The Church teaches us that we can benefit for asking these saints to pray for us.

That’s good enough for me!

yes and yes

That does not mean scripture teaches us to ask them to cheer for us, or that they could hear us even if we did.

ur a lutheran right? did not martin luther pray the rosery? didn’t martin luther pray to the saints?

Yes Luther probably prayed the rosary, that is, the common form of the rosary in his day which did not include praying to saints.

A prooftext! And a pretty decent one at that. I’ll think on it.

However, even if they could hear our thoughts, I still think we should not as them to intercede.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Here are a couple other prooftexts:

Revelation 6:9-10
Revelation 8:3-5

Also, the Orthodox Churches also have great devotion to the saints and ask for their intercession.

even if luther’s version of the hail mary did not have “pray for us sinners” it would still be invoking the virgin mary.

I don’t recall saying that Scripture said that.

I did say that the Church teaches us that this is a good thing.

I’m sorry if your church felt the need to change the rules and then claim that we are violating these very same rules.

And why not? Is it a sin to ask a friend to pray for you?

Where does scripture say that everything that is known about Jesus - his life, his family, his teachings, etc. - is contained therein?

I recently read a book about Blessed Miguel Pro, a Mexican priest who was martyred for his faith. Shortly before his death, he told his friends that when he got to heaven, they better have their intercessions ready, because he was going to deal out favors like a deck of cards!

That’s what I love about being Catholic. It’s not just “me and Jesus,” its having a whole family of brothers and sisters in Christ, not just here on earth, but in Heaven as well.

The traditional rosary today does not mention any saints either - other than Mary, of course. I’m not sure what you’re referring to.

Come to think of it, Anglicans still say the rosary, don’t they?

No, it would just be saying various nice things about her (maybe even to her), but not asking for her intersession in earthly affairs.

Jesus’ advocacy is enough.
