Jesus is Fully God and Fully Man. Mary is the Mother of Jesus.
Jesus is Fully God and Fully Man. Mary being the Mother of Jesus makes her the Mother of God. This is because Jesus is Fully God and Fully Man.

Calling Mary the Mother of God is only to affirm who Jesus is…
Who is Jesus? The second person of the Trinity. Jesus is Fully God and Fully Man. Mary is Mother of Jesus, therefore she is the Mother of God.
You can also add that Elizabeth called Mary. Mother of My Lord.

In Hebrew tradition, the word Lord is often to address their G-d. You could easily interchange the Two.

Notice the likenesses.

How is it that the Mother of My Lord come to me?

How is it that the Mother of My God come to me?

Keep in mind, Jesus is in Mary’s womb, and we know Jesus is the Word of God; and this Word is God.

How would one say “mother of God” in Greek? In other words, which Greek word for “God” would be appropriate?

Mary the mother of Jesus= “Maria meter Iesous” in Greek
So let’s start the phrase… “Maria meter (insert Greek word for God here)”

**How is it that the Mother of My Lord come to me?
**

You’ll notice too that Elizabeth said this under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Now Elizabeth had herself received a great miracle from God, yet here she defers to young Mary, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit mind you, as if she feels unworthy of receiving the honor of a visit from Mary.

“and what is this, that the Mother of My Lord
should come to ME ??”

Here, SAINT Elizabeth felt unworthy of the honor of a visit from Mary, while the fundies, JWs, and other Maryphobics on this forum feel free to talk about Mary as if she were nothing significant at all and even worthy of an unspoken but deeply rooted contempt for that blessed lady, the Handmaiden of the LORD. Yet those inspired by the Holy Spirit expressed the greatest respect for her and even deferred to her honor, as in the case of Elizabeth.

Maybe you can answer this question that’s been bothering me just the same. It still has something to do with the topic.

The Brown Scapular says “whosoever dies wearing this scapular shall not suffer eternal fire”. Is this true?

Mary’s Greek title is Theotokos, which when literally translated means “God-bearer.”

The Greek Orthodox Church also acknowledge the title Mother of God or Theotokos which means God bearer.

In the Council of Ephesus there was a heresy called Nestorianism.

Nestorianism, Christian heresy that held Jesus to be two distinct persons, closely and inseparably united. The Council in response condemned this heresy and affirm the title Theotokos God Bearer to Mary to defined Jesus Christ is God.

The Council states,

The Twelve Anathemas of St. Cyril Against Nestorius
If anyone says that the Emmanuel is true God, and not rather God with us, that is, that he has united himself to a like nature with ours, which he assumed from the Virgin Mary, and dwelt in it; and if anyone calls Mary the mother of God the Word, and not rather mother of him who is Emmanuel; and **if he maintains that God the Word **has changed himself into the flesh, which he only assumed in order to make his Godhead visible, and to be found in form as a man, let him be anathema.

You put yourself at odds with the Council Leaders in Ephesus, so you would be **guilty of heresy **by denying Mary as the Mother of God.

Thanks but that doesn’t answer my question. What is the Greek word for God. Mary’s Greek name is Maria.

It’s too late… I’ve already read the Word of God. Mary is the mother of Jesus. Your religion’s use of anathema doesn’t work on me. I suggest you read the following verses.

Gal 1:8
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Gal 1:9
As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

The Brown Scapular is devotion not dogmatic. A Catholic may or may not wear it.

So, are you saying that Jesus is not God? (In which case, why bother with Him - what is the point of Christianity if Jesus is not God?)

The gospel that St. Paul preached was that Jesus is God, and that we must worship Him.

The Word of God is Jesus. Not the Bible. You seem to get that out of context. The Bible is just written tradition of the Early Church, which is Catholic.

Where in the Bible is “theo” used?
I have no idea; I don’t use a Greek Bible.

The Council of Ephesus gave Mary the title of “Theotokos” in response to the Nestorian heresy, which stated that Jesus is not really God.

Do you, or do you not, believe that Jesus is God?

Obviously, Mary is Jesus’ mother. The question at hand is, “To whom did she give birth?” A mere man? Or God?

I don’t get the logic believers is using. Didn’t he go to school, and learn logic. Apparently, he doesn’t seem to get the concept of the title Mother of God.

Logic 101.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.

Word equals God.

Word made flesh equals Jesus.

Jesus is God.

Mary, the virgin begotten Jesus.

Mary is the Mother of Jesus.

Jesus is God.

Mary is the Mother of God.

Easy logic.

🤷

It doesn’t matter whether it dogmatic. Your RCC teaches such blasphemy. That is a false gospel and you know it. You should also know what happens to those who preach a false gospel and it ain’t pretty.

It’s not false gospel. The brown scapular is a devotion, which appparently don’t know what that means. Second, the origins of the brown scapular is called private revelation, which is not part of the deposit of faith. It is not binding in the faith.

Jesus is God made flesh.

Is not Mary the Mother of Jesus?

Is not Jesus both God and Man?

Therefore, Mary the Mother of God.

Unless you can tell me that Jesus is not God, then I won’t call Mary the Mother of God.

You are just one un-educated Christian who doesn’t seem to grasp the title Mother of God.

God cannot be divided as you claim. If Mary is the mother of God then she is mother of the Trinity.
