Remember there is nothing out there that with God you cant over come. God told us that. Just ask him he will help. Trust God more than anything he will help you. Remember the devil know our weaknesses and will do everything in his power to tempt us. But God can beat him. My Dad always said no matter what, the devil works on weaknesses, just keep Saying In the Name of Jesus Christ devil get away from me. Keep saying it. I swear to you it works, it takes time but it works, the devil will run like hell, he is scared to death of Jesus.
some one at CAF recommended the Glory be which i find works very efficiantly some times i couple it with the fatima prayer.combined with the firm amendment of giving God glory and praise every time i am tempted.

I agree up to a point, Faqcorner. It’s true that we may all be attracted to different temptations/sin, but the topic here is porn. …But my point is, many men who start looking at porn casually, do end up with serious problems and even addictions.
Just a little friendly warning about playing with fire…
God bless …
well, I know now that it is, I looked into it a bit errrrrr… before, but not at the moment… not interested in it now really…things turn kinda unattractive when they would damn one to hell…

and true, that many men who look at it casually can get addicted, but I have too many things that I don’t even care about it much anyways…and the fact it doesn’t look attractive now.

“If this isn’t a serious temptation, and you can walk away from it, that’s great.”
Yep. I can most likely walk away from it. like I said, I just use another thing that has more of a priority, or interest level (looking at it is judged really low in the first place…) that I’ll just do those instead of looking and doing that specific sin

"Thus, if you open that door of temptation, you are allowing the devil to let that type of sin seep into your life. "
true. though actually it did for a bit, but I forced it down now >.> so most of the things, once I found out that they were mortal sins, I force it down extremely, hopefully so it’ll not bother me again, though of course it’ll still be there, but extremely faint.
You are so right. Thank the good Lord that I am like you and have no desire to look at porn…Praise God!! BUT…I still have other struggles that I deal with daily. For these I use prayer and the Sacraments, especially Reconciliation and the Eucharist. I started praying the Liturgy of the Hours and this helps me in a big way…Keep up the good fight…teachccd 🙂
“…Thank the good Lord that I am like you and have no desire to look at porn…”
^ note: I did look into it and got a bit into it, but forced it down after I heard it was a sin, and now even MORE forced down when I find that it’s a grave matter

(really people, running a website when you are my age [middle of high school, not going to say with grade other than that] is quite a stretch and kinda hard for me to get people to come to my site, so I keep on having to do more and more updates, and then I get some people, and I still do more updates, etc, so my work there is almost never done until it’s extremely active ._.’… as well as I if that was fulfilled…if you know how many anime there is, and how many of them are comming each season…that’ll take a long time…as well as the fact that I want to subtitle them with takes even more of my time, and I have church and school anyways)
Anyone who thinks they can look at porn as defined above or even just erotic pictures of women without a problem is fooling themselves and Old Nick is just laughing his hinder off. I have been porn free for a little over forty years now and looking back I can say to anyone, that is not a place you want to go.My excuse was exactly like the list posted by one of the fellas above about all the “benefits”.

It starts out nice and easy. Kind of interesting and fun. Yeah, I could handle that stuff and learn a lot. As time passed I got to a point where just seeing a picture of a nude would make my heart pound and my breath to come in gasps. The pull to keep looking was unimaginable to anyone who has not been there. It took a combination of psychological counseling and a good confessor and lots of night sweats to beat the addiction. It can be beaten, but better to not go there in the first place. The Jesuits taught me about a concept called control of the eyes. It helped a lot.
“Anyone who thinks they can look at porn as defined above or even just erotic pictures of women without a problem is fooling themselves and Old Nick is just laughing his hinder off.”
However, you can’t judge someone based on using a regular model, apparently can’t you think that maybe I have some neurological problems with my brain that I just don’t care after I find out it isn’t, and the fact that something happened before that makes it so I don’t care much about what others do, so I’m less affected by peer pressure.

Yes. I have these “Asperger’s Syndrome” “Autism” “ADD” (similar to ADHD) and the fact that I tried to help some people before [my classmates] for something on the internet (running class website) and most of them left, and the ones that were still there were attacking me (flaming) on the class website with various untrue statements. Including “SPAM” over and over again, as well as explicit untrue statements.

Those kinda killed my care for peer pressure.

never happened to me. nor does it look like. my “addiction” more is along the lines of internet/computer/anime field, and really, those things help me with a new thing I’m doing for my church, so I see no problem in my addiction that much

and I force myself, I’m busy with projects and stuff, I have stuff to study, I have to worry about colleges, church stuff, music ministry, who would accept me, I want to get people to my site and stay there and be active, I like games, I like to watch anime, I like to make AMV’s, I like to do karaoke effects for various songs, I do subtitling for anime, etc.

way too busy to care about the subject sin we are talking about. [sin]

I never said I’m sin free, I just said I can resist it because of the knowledge and various other reasons.

Control of he eyes is a habit that one can acquire. The first principal is that you do not intentionally read magazines, look at web sites, etc. that you know from past exposure to them are going to expose you to temptation. One soon builds up a collection of magazine names, authors, movies etc. that are verboten.

When you walk down a street, watch where you are going, but don’t be on the look out for “good” ones. Look at faces or look down. Depending on what city you walk in looking people in the eye on the street can sometimes be dangerous.

When conversing with a person of the opposite sex look at their face and eyes and not up and down their body. Avoid the fixed stare.

Some people have to stay away from the beach or at minimum be extra careful there, swim don’t gawk.

When you first look at some thing whether image or person the prepared mind grasps almost instantly that its best to look elsewhere. If you have ever taken a speed reading course, you would know just how fast the mind can grasp what it is seeing. Don’t wait to figure it out. Excuses that you just wanted to size up their clothing is just that, an excuse.

Actually it comes down to basic courtesy when dealing with live people. When we talk to a friend do we scan up and down their body while we converse? Not unless we are the compleat boor. Concentrating on someone’s ears or nose is not such a great idea. It works, but many will think you are odd. The eyes have it. They are after all said to be “windows of the soul.”

Control of the eyes is really not a mystery and the skill is easily learned and with time becomes a habit; for the sensitive person, a good habit. 👍

Thanks fg ill put that on the list too. Cant hurt thats for sure. Anything to do with God or Blessed Mother is A+ in my book.

🙂 thanks rwoehmke, that is kinda what i try to do,if do notice my eyes wandering though i take a quick glance away as if i heard a distracting noise.i have noticed i have used some of those excuses you mentioned for looking at some one, and have changed my ways.

ok…so…

errr

for those who know about anime terms…

is excessive “ecchi” scenes considered with “porn” / “hentai”?

and…umm…

[either way, once I find out, ok, but apparently, because of my incomplete knowledge, I didn’t know that porn/whatever WAS a mortal sin, thus just a “grave matter” for the porn part, as I know for sure I didn’t have full/complete knowledge, and is not a mortal sin…but now if I look at it purposefully again…at least about the “porn” discussion… it would be…right?]

[about the ecchi things… I’m not sure, but based on some things (to clarify the lines of what is “porn” or whatever, I think right now that excessive ecchi scenes (something like, the whole anime or whatever is completely based on ecchi, and has no real storyline/plot other than that…) MIGHT be considered as part of it, but don’t think so…however I absolutely don’t think minor use of ecchi would be considered it → that would mean 90% of the anime or so are “porn” when they are considered “regular” and “non-hentai”]

some ecchi examples that are NOT considered hentai:
  • Chobits
  • D.C. ~Da Capo~
  • Elven Lied
  • Girls Bravo
  • Ichigo 100%
  • Love Hina
  • Ranma 1/2
I know for sure that they aren’t considered hentai, from all I know. I think most of the seasoned anime watchers would know at least ranma 1/2 and love hina and maybe chobits.
Therefore, to me, what I’m concluding, is that “ecchi” that isn’t at least the whole point of it / just a side part / minor uses / etc, it isn’t “porn”, but if it’s way too much that it really makes sexual arousal…errr yea… then that would be so I guess…not sure, someone please clarify

thanks

My take is that any picture can be porn if we make it porn.

For example, a billboard of a bikini girl for a travel agency may not be porn in the strict sense, but if I drive past it and lust everyday on my way to work, I have an obligation to gain custody of the eyes and not indulge.

The same goes for anything, including your anime. If it leads you to lust, then its porn for you and it needs to exit your life.

Brother, listen to the words of our Lord: "If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into Gehenna. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into Gehenna.

really, it doesn’t really do that (ok ok…maybe the REALLY NEAR hentai like stuff…but really that isn’t many, I don’t exactly look at ecchi/romance anime that much anyways…)
though when something does, and I detect myself doing it, I visualize surrounding it (ok…yes it kinda looks a bit too much like amebas or whatever trying eat something, but no…)… and after I surround it mentally, I throw it out, and although it might be still there, my thinking of surrounding the thought and throwing it out distracts me from the thought…then I go thinking of a karaoke effect for the next thing I do, or what I’m doing next…to again distract me from the lustful thought until it goes away…

I’ve got a huge anime collection, so I know most the titles you’re talking about. If you’re like me, anime just doesn’t really inspire lust. It’s art. Hentai however is designed to inspire lust. Even if it doesn’t inspire lust it is degrading and objectifying, so I avoid it. I thought Chobits was over the line for that reason, but I liked Love Hina. I thought Elfin Lied was adults only, but made me think and other than the nudity had no sexual element that I recall.

The other fellow was right:
If it leads you to lust, then its porn for you
My problem now is with regular TV and movies. Even comedy movies have lust elements in them. /sigh And almost everything in this area is grave matter. Custody of the eyes/thoughts in just regular movies is very difficult and I have no idea how to judge if this goes from venial to mortal sin or what culpability there is. At the same time I cannot live my life in fear of watching anything in the public discourse.

I am honestly thinking that self discipline, frequent confession, fasting maybe and definately prayer are the answer. Lust isn’t such a strong force if I am focused on the heart of people/situations. This is a tough one for me and our Church is staunch with the Truth. The struggle on this is forcing me to pray more and reevaluate my life more. And I’m a geezer at 42.

Don’t focus on the sin, focus on the Cross is the advice I’m trying to take.

I’m going to get rid of my porn.

Best have nothing to do with it.

You are reading my mind I was just going to say that. Thank God my husband doesnt have this problem, (at least i hope not). But i was going to suggest, my big thing is sugar, Candy if its there i eat it. if it isnt i dont. Now i know that there is a way on your computer to not be able to download that garbage, so have someone in your house set a password and not tell you. then the internet wont be a problem you wont be able to get to the sites… then like i do with my weakness Candy, dont have it in the house. Out of site out of mind.

Let me take you one step further.

If blowing up a balloon causes you to become aroused, stop blowing up balloons and stay away from them.

(Some might call me silly – but you’d be astonished at the different paraphilias and fetishes out there.)

Avoid the near occasions of sin – in other words, avoid all your “triggers.”

FAQ: I had never heard of the anime of which you speak…I looked into it and that stuff is very sexual in nature. I would compare it to a late night Cinemax show that has a lot of nudity and sexual themes in it in addition to a plot, without being graphically sexual. I personally would consider this a form of pornography…

It features animated women with disproportionately large breasts, sometimes nude, very young looking, short skirts where the underwear shows, etc…I don’t think the Pope would approve.

Anime is a medium, not a content. That’s like saying no bugs bunny because there’s Chobits. No movies because there’s porn movies.

If it tempts you to objectify, I agree, though, trash it. If it does the opposite, keep it. Anime has fallen into both categories for me, so I’ll pass on the blanket judgement.

errrr… which one?

I haven’t looked into all of them… mostly only…
  • Ranma 1/2
  • Love Hina
  • Chobits (a little bit, not too much, not interesting enough)
I haven’t looked into the other ones, just took those ones a bit randomly from the list on wikipedia on the ecchi anime…

I know for sure the above ones that I watched aren’t what you are describing

I’ll butt in again. Love Hina does have those kind of scenes, as does Ranma (though toned down) What puzzles me about the Cinemax analogy is that modern cinema celebrates unchastity, while chastity is a virtue in these anime. In Love Hina the joke is the boy gets punched to the moon every time the girl thinks (mistakenly) that he is acting lecherous. As a comedy that’s pretty tame and it’s be pretty odd if Love Hina were an occassion of sin, but I’m 42, not 18.

I dunno, the issue is interior as well as exterior. If cartoons-even ones made for adults (not “adult” as in porn) are an occassion of sin then maybe interior work is needed. That’s what I felt after I put on that real life comedy with the topless women and such. I made 1. a poor decision to watch it and 2. lost custody of the eyes when I knew it was coming in the scene. So I want to form up my conscience to make good choices interiorly rather than blanket rules. I want to be able to watch something like ElfenLied and not have it an occassion of sin. Or for that matter I want to watch the Godfather without it being an occassion of sin and there is a naughty scene in that. Even Casablanca has passionate kisses in it. Should that be on the bad list?

The answer is yes if it is an occassion odf sin, but I want to be in a state where Casablanca is not an occassion of sin (it’s not, I’m making an example)

Sorry, I ramble too long. This is important. Yes, avoid all occassions of sin, but also I want to train myself interiorly so that this is not a raging battle. We are called to master our sexuality through practice of chastity. If I don’t build up a spiritual life can I even walk past a Maxim cover in a 7-11 without going to confession?

Okay, you can all clobber me as a dirty old lecher now. :o

meh, really anime doesn’t make me sin really >.> that’s all.

though yet again, I only looked at action type of anime… so I don’t encounter the elements too much, it’s mostly in romance type that they have those stuff…(unless the producers put it in as a random joke once in awhile…)

this is a solid post.mind you we don’t go into ocassions of sin with the idea of testing how strong we are cause one just might fail:blush: been there done that.i thought i could watch some shows and not be affected but over time it takes it toll. temptation gets us when we are least expecting it especially when we think we are strong.

I’m also guessing it’s not a sin if some site comes and puts stupid ads on their site, that has nothing to do with the site’s content, but is…explicit? as long as you don’t pay attention to them, and just use the site’s content and leave…

also…I’m also guessing it’s not a sin, like in youtube, though it IS censored, there are some (the newer ones) that sometimes doesn’t have the information that it is explicit within the description/title, therefore you had no clue it was…

and I’m also guessing that it’s not a sin to click on a link, and you didn’t know it was explicit (no indications), and then you bumped into the 18+ year block thing…and then left, and continued your search for what you were looking for (which was NOT porn and **** -_-)

youtube needs better censoring and filtering, meaning, they shouldn’t even show the entry for the videos that are 18+ to minors like me :x…

though I’m guessing the above senerios are not sins as you weren’t even looking for it in the first place…though I just need to make sure…

[since I can’t edit my previous post…]

I’m also assuming that if I watched something that didn’t have explicit content that was BASED on a GAME that was explicit, though the video itself isn’t explicit, then it’s ok (basicly, like watching Fate/Stay Night anime, although the game itself was a H-game, though the anime is not hentai/h-anime)?
