You want a new perspective on this, read Love and Responsibility by Pope John Paul II. Personally, I believe there are serious issues with this for two reasons.
First, how can your reasoning be anything but selfish when viewing porn? You’re essentially doing it to find happiness in the pleasure of looking at it (I would put that in the category of hedonism).
Second, the pleasures of sexuality are not for anything other than a full and complete love with another human being of the opposite sex, not a picture, video or otherwise. This would take porn completely into the realm of abuse of one of God’s gifts for us.
Third, look at it this way. Not only is it bad for you, but anytime you view it, you’re supporting the industry, an industry that causes a considerable amount of harm.
Fourth, why complicate your life with something that is only temporary, something which will never be satisfied, something which will only bring more pleasure by looking at it again? Set your sites higher than this. Seek the love that Christ offers in every relationship you have. Look to be more selfless in your thought and you’ll find something far more satisfying and rewarding than anything else you could imagine.
We’re not perfect and we have our faults, that’s true. However, God gave us a free will so that we had the chance to choose true love, that which resides in Christ.
So, in the end, it becomes a choice. Remain where you are or grow into something more. That’s your choice, regardless of what the addiction or inclination maybe.
Finally (you can stop here if you want, since I think I’ve made my point), but, finally, I’ve read something which I think applies to many areas of our lives. We, as human beings have a past, a present and a future. We can look back on our past and learn from what we see; our present, we are to live in; and our future is a matter of what we want for our lives, what we hope to become, what we dream for. When we live in the present only, we fall into materialism where we do not seek anymore than what we have or want today, without regard of our past or future. Think of it like sitting down playing a video game; even though, you perceive a progression, when the game is over, you are no better off than you were when you started playing. In other words, don’t rob yourself of your full potential by ignoring what is important. We were not put here to remain the same but to experience change and that change can either be positive or negative. The choice is ours.
God Bless
