I’m not sure I follow.
Well, when someone is performing rituals before a statue, you had said that it is impossible to know if they are idolizing the statue. I simply thought that you might ask a few questions. But then again if you are not supposed to ask or tell about idolatry, then you are right, who knows what is going on…

Hello all your guys. I hear you defending the Roman Catholic Church and that is only to be expected, and I have checked out you Commandments page.

Looks like a lot of ‘wriggling’ to me to get off the hook. The Content and Order of the 10 Commandments is set out in Exodus 20, where especially the 4th, spells out Who God is, He is the Creator, it spells out which day of the week is the Sabbath which the Creator has made Holy and set apart for Man to rest. Not up to Man to change any of them.

Plenty of graven images and plenty of ‘likenesses’ in every Roman Catholic Church I go into and do regularly, and they get bowed down to quite often, as well as the Altar or the Presence in the box or whatever you call it. I know that you claim not to worship them but boy it comes mighty close…

Speaking of the big Cathedrals and Abbeys, I also see many Masonic signs and symbols in them too, green men and masonic hand signals in the stained glass windows.

Even rumours of pagan sacrifices going on late at night in some churches. even the tiles on the floors oftern have mystic meanings. All too much for me, I prefer a plain place of worship without all the images, likenesses, and masonic signs looking at me. Time to be quiet with my God. Although I spend quiet times in Cathedrals too, but get distracted by all those man made ‘invasions’ of God’s Space.

So here we are again. Time to ‘agree to disagree’ maybe.

Greetings to all and may God bless all here. Michael.
🤷
Micheal how can we possibly “agree to dissagree” when the things you say are filled with utter hate towards us and our church". And the presence in the box “or whatever you call it” is the tabernacle which contains the true body and blood of Jesus, we are bowing actually genuflecting to Jesus himself, are you too proud to acknowledge Jesus when he is right in front of you?

And by the way you are wrong when you insist that we changed or removed one of the commandments. Originally the Bible had no divisions for chapters or verses, those came thousands of years after the decalogue was written, Catholics just used a different system for dividing the verses, that is it. There was no conspiracy of the “great beast” to omit any of the commandments, none.

But then again if you are not supposed to ask or tell about idolatry, then you are right, who knows what is going on…
Yeah that’s right actually. Nobody knows but the person him/herself so brother2 has no right to make the claim that one who does this, is idol worshiping. I know for a fact I don’t and nor does the Church teach this. And I encourage him to ask away actually. I would also have no need to lie cause if I did worship these images, it would mean I wouldn’t believe in the Church and what She teaches. There would be no point remaining a Catholic if I thought these statues were on par with God. I’d have to create my own religion using graven images as my Gods.

Ok guys and gals I’m well and truly ambushed from all sides…I’m actually glad to hear you all defending your Faith so well! Anytime I go into a Roman Catholic Church I always Respect the devotions of Catholics, I respect the whole Building, and I actually quite like the images of and Jesus and Mary, in a way they do help concentrate the mind. Even though I hold a different view.

In the world we all have to live in, it is refreshing to here young and maybe older people expressing their beliefs and making a difference in this old war torn world. There is an old Jewish belief, any Jewish people can keep me right here, that the ‘righteous people’ in the world actually keep away the end of the world just by living in it…like Abraham negotiating with God about Sodom and Gomorrah. It is probably Biblical that the God’s people in the world keep it from destruction and the end of the world. People like you and I??

I like to spend holidays in Greece and this year we are going to Crete and Santorini and I always visit the Orthodox Churches, cool quiet, and the Greeks going about their devotions, the ceilings and walls full of Icons, pictures of the saints, all interesting.

So even though I disagree I don’t have problem with it personally, everyone should have the freedom to worship as they please. There are countries in the world where Adventists are actually in the majority, but everyone worships as they please. I don’t like the countries where people of any faith are persecuted for their beliefs, Even though, Faith grows under persecution.

As for preaching the message we have, to worship the Creator rather than you now what, we feel we have a particular message from God to give to the world, nothing like a good debate to keep us (all beliefs) faithful huh??

As for ‘brain washing’ mentioned earlier by someone; I believe atheists accuse all religions of that? As long as we have gone into it with our eyes and intellect open and alert then we can keep searching for ourselves. Ha, not sure what happened to the ex adventists mind you…only kidding there…

So, there we are, maybe, somehow, we can agree on some things eh? Another charge is that Christians continue to argue amongst themselves…ha, and not because we should all be back under the banner of the Pope and all back into the ‘fold’ either. (just came into my mind there all the new Priests prostrated before Himself in the Vatican, maybe you can explain that too?)

Anyway, let us agree on the Salvation available through our Lord Jesus Christ, by His Grace and Wonderful love towards us sinners…

May God bless all here! Michael.

I believe the original poster of that was telling that to you specifically because all the information about what and why we believe is at your fingertips yet you ranted off something we hear all the time from Adventists and Protestants who no nothing at all about Catholicism. No offense but your kind of brainwashing toward us as he/she insisted could be cured with a little effort of asking first, listening second. 😉

No other way can keep a fold together. You may laugh at that but you have to admit, there are plenty of different denominations all who think they have the right interpretation of their beliefs and no way of knowing absolutely that they are right.
Then your bible alone position is in even more trouble when you think of how little people could read or write and how very little Bible there were to go around in the first 1200 or so years especially because of the time, effort and cost it would take to duplicate it. (No printing press)
(just came into my mind there all the new Priests prostrated before Himself in the Vatican, maybe you can explain that too?)
I’ll let another answer this question but I hope you again aren’t trying to judge their hearts on their outward appearance. 🙂

As a brother2 I agree, ‘Judge not that ye be now judged’. Although I felt pretty well judged at the beginning of this Thread, though I take no offence from it.

Even though I respect you for your beliefs, I still feel and believe that what started as the Early Church was hijacked by power hungry people, just as Jude and John talk about ‘evil men’ and false teachers and antichrists coming into the Church even in their day. To keep peace in the Empire, merging pagan and Christian beliefs in the Church. The Roman Catholic Church is very clever and artful (maybe as all churches can you say) about its P R, clever theologians explaining away the false…and making it appear as true.

We can discuss and debate without judging, though I agree with you it hard for us humans to draw the distinction. But, as I have set out in my last ‘blog’ what my true feelings are toward other Faiths. It is up to you if you believe me or not. I do not judge individuals going about their devotions, I respect them as part of the Christian Church, how can I say it, it is the System that I have many doubts about, not the people in it…as I have already said, even popes will be in heaven, living up to the light they had…

God had to raise up the Reformers who wanted to reform from inside the Church until they were excomunicated. The work of reform could not happen in one life time, humans can take a long time to be properly reformed…we tend to choke otherwise…little at a time brother.

So, I respect all Roman Catholics and Orthodox Christians and Protestants going about their faith; can I be clearer than that? Even so it does not follow that we all Unite together under Himself, I would definitely Choke on that…though I am informed that Seventh-day Adventist ministers regularly have discussions in the Vatican with priests of the Roman Catholic Church, so there, no harm in friendship, working together, even non doctrinal worship together, how much more can I offer you ha ha??

May God bless all here! Michael.:thumbsup

Just a PS. Yes Bibles in old times were chained to the walls of religious buildings. Or just one in a village or town. Although many good Christians used to write out Chapters and whole books by hand and read them and distribute them to other people. I think Martin Luther’s Bible was chained to his Cell wall.

We must lift up these middle ages Christians as role models huh, some Catholics others becoming Protestant, all did their bit to spread gospel of Scripture to their fellow human beings. Saints? Well believe it or not all ‘saved’ Christians are saints in the eyes of God; even The Saints were just as sinful human beings like us…though they did some special work amongst the people, an example for all us ‘saints’ who are living now.

Christian greetings to all. Michael.🤷

Micheal, once again you could not be more wrong, bibles were not chained into place because as you will say the church was tryiing to keep it from people.

The truth is that bibles were extremely expensive esp. back in the time when it took years for a bible to be written all by hand. And for years after the printing press they were still very expensive.

Another one of Ellen’s mistruths goes down the drain… sorry.

That again is all an opinion of yours derived from ‘your own’ personal interpretation from the Written Word Of God. You ever wonder why you believe in the Bible alone theory yet you can’t even find this doctrine in the Bible? Doctrines of men indeed brother2.
God had to raise up the Reformers who wanted to reform from inside the Church until they were excomunicated. The work of reform could not happen in one life time, humans can take a long time to be properly reformed…we tend to choke otherwise…little at a time brother.
God would not raise the reformers into error which clearly is what has become of the many denominations that splintered from this. He may have allowed it to happen so that the Church could cleanse itself from certain things going on inside of Her by sinful men but never to change Doctrine.

Have you ever dared to ask why this was so? As I said before, Bibles didn’t come cheap and much effort was used in duplicating them. So chaining up such an expensive item would seem very logical to me in fear of theft.

And throwing them out for everyone to interpret on their own without the aid of the Sacred Traditions of the Church would cause havoc as we clearly see has happened. The Oneness that Jesus Prayed for is an impossibility when using this ideology.

I think brother2 what you should since you come to this forum is learn exactly what and why we teach certain things. There are many, many, many threads created a thousand times over dealing with each subject. Or start a thread dealing with each doctrine you feel is in error.

This has been discussed with other SDAs on here in the past. Below is a link to an excellent post as to why Bibles were chained. They were expensive for many reasons, not the least of which was that it took approximately 250 sheep to provide the skin for the pages. The printing press of course changed things…but are there books still chained? Mercygate points out that yes, at Oxfored University there is a book chained in their library to this day…and why that is.

Michael and other SDAs who are currently mis-informed (as well as anyone else who would enjoy being informed) please take a minute and read this:

OK Lads and Lassies the gloves seem to be off in some of the responses to my careful and reasoned replies. It is your right not to believe what I have told you. As it is mine not to believe your replies to me.

In my view the Roman Catholic Church have been so clever and artful at hiding the history they do not want the world to know…in the counter reformation how clever and artful at re interpreting Scripture to its own devices.

I repeat, I respect you all, and extend Christian love to you, it is the System which I fault.

I list some Websites for you perusal as my words are not enough. And then i leave you to your own devices. Obviously the Roman Catholic Church declares itself to be infallible, at least according to you responses. So I leave you with other responses from the Web. May God bless all here. Michael.

this intrigues me. were you thinking that you’d be able to come on this site, say a few word and the Catholics would “see the light”? did you think we wouldnt or better yet couldnt defend our faith? it seems to me the one who cant defend his church is you…
you never did answer my question about the not kill commandment and your church’s official stance on abortion. maybe because there is no defence for it?:o

Matthew 18:18
King James Bible
“Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Acts 20:7 (King James Version)
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Seventh-day Adventists have changed their mind 3 times as to the origin of the universal practice of Christians worshipping on the Sunday (first day). Although all three guesses are wrong, but each time they come closer to the truth: 33 AD by the Apostles!

Three wrong guesses, you’re out:
The so called “inspired prophet” Ellen White originally claimed the Pope started “Sunday worship” White later changed her mind and said the Emperor Constantine introduced “Sunday worship” in 325 AD. Today, Adventists blame the interaction of Sunday worship on Christians in 135 AD and not the Pope or Constantine!

Guess #1: the Pope introduced Sunday worship.

The Roman Catholic Pope DID NOT change the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday as Sabbath keepers falsely teach. Yes Catholics do claim they changed the Sabbath, but they also claim that Peter was the first pope! Sabbath Keepers reject the Catholic claim that Peter was the first pope, so they are in grave error for accepting the Catholic claim that the pope changed the Sabbath to Sunday!

Guess #2: It was Constantine in 325 AD.

Constantine (325 AD) DID NOT change the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday as Sabbath keepers falsely teach. Christians never kept the Sabbath from the apostolic age (33 AD) through the time of Constantine (325AD). Constantine merely made the first “Sunday closure law”, since it had already been the day Christians worship for 300 years!

Today’s guess #3: Christians in 135 AD.

The historical claims of Samuele Bacchiocchi, Seventh-day Adventist, refuted. Bacchiocchi is likely the top Seventh-day Adventist historian in the world. His search for the origin of “first day worship” has led him to reject the traditional position of his church, and his founding prophet, Ellen G. White who claimed “Sunday keeping” began with Constantine in 325 AD. His view, which is increasingly being adopted by the Seventh-day Adventist church, is that Christians in 135 AD were first to worship on the first day of the week.

The truth: Apostles in 33 AD introduced Sunday worship.

Hello johnshark. I’m glad it intrigues you, is that not the whole idea? I Respect you for your beliefs as I repeat all the time. No it is the System. Just as you have the right to have a go at the System I belong too.

Thou shalt not kill? As I recall I mentioned conscience in my reply, no it does not replace the Ten Commandments, of course not. But is it thou shalt not kill or thou shalt not Murder?? Can we kill the enemy when our country is threatened? Probably many Catholics and Protestants in the army, kill the enemy??? Yes, because it is lawful or their conscience allows them??

Abortion for me is the same. My conscience says that most of the time abortion is wrong. but there are times when it becomes personal choice…rape, incest and maybe handicap, maybe not as you say. Praise God I never had to make the choice.

The biggest difference may be the dogma of your Church that tells you Abortion is wrong, full stop!! Contraception is wrong, full stop!! Obey the Church and take the mass and confess to the priest or you go to hell or pergatory?? (if i could spell it?).

I really apologise for that I do, sorry…but we have an Advocate with the Father, the Man Christ Jesus, we don’t need to confess to a human being…maybe no harm in confessing to a minister or priest, but a human being cannot forgive sin on behalf of God…and definitely not obligatory!!

We are all part of the Christian Church, Protestant and Roman Catholic, and we love and respect each other, though we have the right to discuss, debate and point out what you or I believe is error with the Christian Church.

Shalom Peace and God bless all here. Michael.👍

i understand your saying that many Catholics and protestants kill in combat…BUT your church actively tries to dissuade its members from joining the military because killing is wrong. so how can it turn around and say that the killing/murdering of innocent life is OK. i hate to harp on this point but is seems that there is cognitive dissonance there. and as far as personal choice goes why is it OK to get an abortion but not to worship on sunday?
when i first started moving towards being a Catholic from the sda the first thing i looked at was whether the beliefs made sense… from Marion devotion to sunday worship if you have the eyes to see and the ears to hear you cant help but come to the conclusion that the CATHOLIC CHURCH is the church that Christ founded. if i may recommend a book to you to explain why i believe this try Four Witnesses: The Early Church in Her Own Words
hopefully you can see this from Europe…

Thanks for that johnshark…I rest my case…ha I said that you and I can point out error within our Systems…so thank for that…you may or may not be sorry to hear that Sam Bacchi died recently, he had liver cancer…a great loss indeed…I received his newsletters each month. He attended the papal university in Rome and had the papal mark on his books, he took a leaf out of the jesuits book…sorry attempt at a joke…

History in the first second and third centuries is not an artform, we were not there…Ha ha, the Roman Catholic fathers were there of course and wrote their own opinion or version of what was happening…there was a backlash against the Jews of course and keeping Sabbath on the 7th day was too Jewish for some…though there is no evidence in Scripture of Sunday worship, they broke bread every day, and the meeting you mentioned could well have been Saturday night, first day beginning at sunset…definitely too Jewish huh, but they probably did keep the day beginning at sunset.

Like with all changes it is usually a gradual event rather than immediate…so it probably took hundreds of years for the gradual change…some wanting to distance themselves from the Jews… others keeping to the 7th day. Until Constantine got into the act…321 by the way…the first law regarding sunday…

Paul kept Sabbath anyway, went to the synagoge every week, debating with the Jews and Greeks so Gentiles were there too…

To say the Pope changed it is too symplistic of course, it was gradual, though the Bible says ‘he sits in the temple of God claiming to be god, and he thought to change times and laws’…so it became a symbol of the power of the Roman Catholic Church that they were able to do it so they did…history has been carefully changed by the Church of course, holding all the archives…

Old Catechisms actually boast of it…if you look at my websites i included…

So, Shalom, peace, and may God bless all here. Michael.👍

i understand your saying that many Catholics and protestants kill in combat…BUT your church actively tries to dissuade its members from joining the military because killing is wrong. so how can it turn around and say that the killing/murdering of innocent life is OK. i hate to harp on this point but is seems that there is cognitive dissonance there. and as far as personal choice goes why is it OK to get an abortion but not to worship on sunday?
when i first started moving towards being a Catholic from the sda the first thing i looked at was whether the beliefs made sense… from Marion devotion to sunday worship if you have the eyes to see and the ears to hear you cant help but come to the conclusion that the CATHOLIC CHURCH is the church that Christ founded. if i may recommend a book to you to explain why i believe this try Four Witnesses: The Early Church in Her Own Words
hopefully you can see this from Europe…

OH boy this is so good eh johnshark? the cut and thrust of debate!!..I defend your right to leave the Seventh-day Adventist Church and join the Roman Catholic Church by the way, freedom of choice and all that…free will…conscience…

Ah, Adventist Church ‘encourages’ not dogma just encourages its members to be medics or nurses, doctors, all essential jobs in the armed forces, but if conscience allows them to kill and not murder…?? Encourage them to keep Sabbath in the armed forces too, many were put in the ‘glass house’ for refusing work on Sabbath…while others took essential work which was ok with their conscience…

I have to say to you that I believe in reason as well as Scripture, God made us intelligent beings, so I indeed look at my beliefs to see if they make sense…as for worshiping on Sunday, well I attend other churches on occasion and have taken communion in Anglican churches, ugh alcoholic wine too, ha, good excuse for a tipple huh…so yeah we have choice…

Ha! Don’t get me started on Mary…wow she was a very special young lady to be chosen as the mother of Lord Jesus, to be entrusted with the nuture and upbringing of Jesus…and Joseph too, special man…good living people to teach Lord Jesus the Scriptures and guide Him in His young life…

But Mary was a human being and she died and was buried like every other…I heard a legend that she was buried in North Wales where she went as a Missionary…we cannot pray to Mary…she would tell us if she could tell us, to worship her Son…same with all the Saints…they are nearly all dead and buried and awaiting the resurrection… this soul business is another weed planted amongst the wheat of the early Church…God breathed into man the breath of life and he became a living soul…I am a soul…many souls were drowned in the Titanic…its not some ghostly apparition…when we get to heaven we will be body and spirit or breath…(God looks after the essence of what makes us who we are what makes Michael Michael but we are unconcious) equals souls…‘the soul that sinneth it shall die’!!

So, wow johnshark, its 2am here time I was hitting the hay, the entertainment has been wonderful, thank you!!

Shalom, peace, may God bless all here. Michael.👍

You are still keeping me up johnshark ha ha. No, believe me john I am reading all your well thought out writing and I appreciate where you are coming from honest I do. I have learned to listen as I have got older and I hear you.

Yes the Catholic church is the Church the Lord Jesus Christ started, notice I left out the Roman part, it surely came later with the bishop of Rome when the barbarians sacked Rome the bishop of Rome took over, watched a film of it few years ago, cannot trust a film I know, but the bishop took over Rome after the barbarians left. The Church was started in Jerusalem surely, that may be too symplistic for you, but the 11 disciples and the others, 2000 converted in one day…the early church and then it spread to Rome with Paul and Peter.

Yes you claim Peter was the first pope, he wasn’t I would say, and then you admit that the Roman Catholic Church what? claims to have changed the Sabbath, just because I don’t accept one does not mean I cannot accept the other…Ha…too late at night for this :eek:john…see you tomorrow mate…

Shalom. Peace. May God bless all here. Michael.
