How I understand the SDA they do indeed base their denomination on their mistake on behalf of william miller and his supporters, but instead of just simply leaving the misinterpretation like william miller, they reinterpreted and said it was our mistake to believe Christ was comming, but what actually happened in that year is that He went to the Holiest of Holy place in Heaven and began to judge, hence Investigative Judgment (one of their important doctrines based on misinterpretation yet again).Every Church which claims Christ as Lord can trace its history to Christ, and can truly claim Christ as its founder.
SDA’s are a denomination of Christ’s Universal Church. 1843 and 1844 were mistakes, but Adventist’s admit so. It is not because of pride, and fear of being wrong that they continue to hold these dates to be important. It is because they really believe that something important happened in 1844.
The Adventist Church is to be commended in my opinion because they are the one Church which has not sided with Biblical critics by accepting an allegorical interpretation of Daniel 8. Think about it. Daniel 8 either concerns Antiochus, or something we have not understood as of yet, and the Adventists are the only ones trying to understand it. If it is about Antiochus, you must cut the 2300 days in half, and then shorten it still more to make it fit the desecration he was responsible for. You get into the act of messing witht he date and dates to make it fit.

The Seventh Day Adventist in the start did not believe in the trinity, and was not thought of as a christian church because of it, and they decided to accept the trinity in order to be accepted as a Christian Denomination by both the Roman Catholic Church and Protestant Churches, infact when it comes to it, Their version of Jesus is very similiar and yet slightly different from the Traditional Jesus, Their Jesus had older brothers (Desire of Ages, page 99 or 89 i think), which contradicts the idea the Mary gave birth to Jesus as a virgin. UNLESS they do agree that brothers during biblical times was also referred to cousins.
so SDAism started off as a non christian church (because of the trinity) with misinterpretations
and the method the SDA uses to interpretate their prophecy is just a method to prove to themselves that they are the remnant church
