Validity is a pretty low bar if you ask me. Soggy liver and onions might be a valid meal, but it’s hardly a glorious meal. Shouldn’t Holy Mass be glorious?

Nonetheless, I feel your pain. It seems so rude to offer up the anguishes of Lord’s Mass. Practice helps you tune it out over time! When you’re striking your breast at the correct times; when you’re saying “and with your spirit” under your breath; when you’re folding your hands like a Catholic while everyone else is glad-handing the Lord’s Prayer… just hope that you’re being a good influence on someone else in the pews. You never know who’s learning from you!

Sometimes it’s lonely being at Church, especially when you’re the only one tradding up the spaceship. Hang in there.

Hopefully we’re reaching the point where we never need attend a NO mass if we so desire.

To those of you who dislike the new rite but still attend because, technically (assuming the 4 conditions are met) it’s valid: how do you get through it without losing your peace?
for me it’s the other way around: i can make it through the OF just fine, but it is the EF i have difficulty with.

I never realized that there were so many modern-day martyrs who have to struggle as they do…

Well, as I said, I could be wrong. Other than you and me (and I’m not even a Canadian, yet), I haven’t really seen many Canadians screaming bloody hell on these forums over liturgical abuses.

Then, again, there are 10 times as many Americans as there are Canadians.

I sure hope I’m wrong, and that Canadians will indeed scream bloody hell, but the CCCB has not really been doing much of anything in the area of liturgy, and even the Canadian Ordo endorses inclusive language for the Mass texts, even going so far as to suggest changes.

But I’m profoundly thankful to God for St. Anthony’s Parish and Assumption Ukrainian Catholic Church for the wonderful liturgies they celebrate. Well, the St. Anthony OF, while not riddled with abuses, still celebrates children’s Masses (albeit in conformity with the directives from Rome) and suffers from poor song choices (e.g. Haas, Haugen). But they stick to the texts otherwise. But St. Anthony’s EF is just amazing.

By the way, we Albertans have been freezing too.
As a Canadian I agree with you and mourn the liturgical abuses in mass. I am still a precatechumenate so I can’t spot each and every liturgical abuse but when I do…   😦

It’s typically very hard to maintain prayerful concentration during the NO, but recently some of my most prayerful experiences have been at the NO. Of course, that was in large part because I was home and my kids got to distract my parents during Mass instead of me. When I’m the caregiver it has always been a challenge, and I just try my best, and often ask for humility or confess pride if I’m having trouble, since the NOs in my parts tend to arouse my irascible faculties.

Do you mock the suffering Catholics endure while watching “Catholics” treat Christ with no more respect than they would a junkie on the street? It seems like an insensitive thing to say, not to mention it’s lacking the ecumenical spirit. Just food for thought.

and someone saying they have revulsion towards the OF is any less insensitive or lacking in ecumenical spirit? or was that a tongue-in-cheek comment? 😉 😛

As has been said several times, he was speaking of revulsion of liturgical abuse, not revulsion of the Mass itself.

regardless, it is still “insensitive” and “lacking the ecumenical spirit” 😃 . Luke 6:38 “for with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you”.

as a side note, it really seems most EFers here think ANYTHING other than the EF is liturgical abuse.

I “mock” the Catholics here who think they are more holy than the Pope and that the latin Mass is the only Mass worthy of them. Is that insensitive? If the shoe fits, then wear it.

Great question, thanks:thumbsup:

I can share what I do.

The closer to the front you sit, the fewer distractions you will have.

Particiape actively in the responces and singing, even if like me your a lousy singer (sing softer). It may help to actually read the responces even if you know them?

Pay very close attention to the readings. Ask God what are you trying to tell me today?

Also pay VERY CLOSE attention to the Words of Consecration. They are awesome!

Try (with God’s help) to be ever mindful that you are in the Very Presence of Jesus Christ. Make the Mass a personal visit.

The Mass is about God, about Jesus, we are simply guest in His House. Let the Holy Spirit lead you, move you, own you!

Watch only the priest, not the lectors, altar girls, or Ordinary ministers of Holy Communion.

Hope this helps because your right, it ain’t easy, but it is possible for God!🙂

God bless you,

PJM m.c.

BVM please lead us to your Son Jesus.

Aha! Awesome answer…👍

I don’t believe that the people who put extra effort to show reverence to God are doing it for themselves. I believe they have the genuine desire to give greater devotion to the trinity. A person who loves God deeply would be hurt to see a lack of respect for him. The OP posted because they are trying to GROW so that they can BE REVERENT at a NO mass. May all of our hearts grow to love god in our worship regardless of the setting.

If you make a point of mocking it is counter productive. Compassion coupled with strong conviction might be a better approach.

If the truth hurts, bear it.

Do you think that John Paul II would be happy with your mockery of your Catholic brethren? So, the Pope is the holiest man on the planet? Find ONE Church document that says so, and then your idolatrous comment will hold some validity.

By the way, no traditional Catholics claims that only the Latin Mass is worthy of them, the claim is that it’s the only one reverent towards God in every action.

Truth is number one for me, not making everyone feel good. I don’t claim ecumenism at all costs, but it seems like Tim might, so it makes perfect sense for me to ask him to be more ecumenical.

The neighboring parish (about 30 miles away from where I live) that celebrates the EF of the Mass is very reverent and from the few times I been, from what I can see, there are no liturgical abuses done for the OF. My home parish (about 3 miles away) is a bit lax in that area, but mostly when there is a “packed house” so to speak. The 2 Masses celebrated during the week (where there might be 10 people… small Catholic population where I live) don’t have me revulsed as far as liturgical abuses go. I actually really like celebrating the weekday Masses. For some reason, though, there is a different feel for the one held on Sunday. 🤷 Not sure what that’s all about.

God Bless!

i know what you mean. i think its because this mass stems around the people/community. people who go to church during the week are there because they really want to go. whereas a lot of people go to church on sunday as an obligation.

Gee, you got me on that one; guess I’ll only go to the latin Mass from now on.

If it is good enough for the Vicar of Christ, His bishops and His priests, then I would think it would be good enough for the faithful, too.

Good enough is not exactly the standard we want to pursue for holiness. We want to pursue perfection so that we may become perfectly faithful.
