CARose,

Thank you very much for your help! Marie Marie has been reported! :dancing:

What did you feel was missing? Child abuse and a cover up that is debasing? In the protestant churches this is dealt with immediately. No shielding these pedophiles by a Pole as well as the new Pope. I’m totally turned of with the Vatican that believes they can disobey the laws of America. Actually they feel no respect for ant laws of any country. They shield their abusing priest under the banner of the Catholicism I do not see Christianity in this hauty brazen church who lies to their parishioners and blames the molested children!

Ha! I used to be a protestant and they cover that stuff up bigtime:mad: And if someone actually speaks up the Pastor gets a 20 second news spot:tsktsk: So before you start pointing fingers you’d better do some research!!! Marie Marie will be reported again too!

Thank you very much! That was enlightening and interesting! It’s interesting that a group of linguists translated the writings on the wall. I’m in grad school, studying to be a linguist.
That is too cool. The masters class I’m taking is being taught by Dr. Kenneth Howell, from University of Illinois, Urban/Champaign. They’ve been flying him in weekly to teach the course. He knows Hebrew, Arameic, Greek, Latin and all these other ancient languages, so he reads the bible in Greek. (He can simultaneously translate from the Greek, in front of the class when he’s looking something up). Blows my mind. But it’s awesome, because he knows what the original texts say, as he can personally read the languages.

What languages do you speak / read? If you’re especially talented in languages, you may want to start working on the biblical languages. It may be another Charism.

(Oh, and yes, I personally believe that even those who have not been baptised may have Charisms based on my personal experience. But I know with Certainty that those who have been baptised are given these gifts. The Church teaches us this. They are the gifts of the Holy Spirit.)

Amen! Thank you! I personally know over 20 Protestant pastors who have been caught in sex scandals, right here in my hometown. Most of them are still serving in their pulpits, thanks to strings being pulled on their behalf. Some have even prevented themselves from being prosecuted because they paid off their victims’ families!

Please don’t worry, I seriously doubt that anyone who has read even a part of this thread could believe you intend to be insulting. Your questions are to the point and respectful, as you seek to convince your mind of all that your heart is feeling. Soon it will be a matter of taking that leap of Faith, but first you need to work through these things. I hope and pray that we do more help than harm.

(Oh, and I liked your reponse to Marie Marie 🙂 In the future if you want to report a bad post, you can do so by clicking on the little Yield sign in the right hand corner of the post. )

Joseph is Jesus’s adoptive, therefore legal son. As such, he was in line to inherit his possessions and position in life. This includes his position in the line of Solomon. I was especially impressed by Zooey’s response above on this topic. She understood things I haven’t previously heard, but as I know through Faith that what the Catholic Church teaches, I am comforted in knowing that when I don’t have the answer, it is merely due to my own lack of knowledge.

You also seem stuck on Why would God allow the Jews to miss the Messiah? I think it comes down to several things:
  • God allows us our own Free Will, including the ability to reject him.
  • God has a reason that we don’t know for maintaining the Jews as a seperate people.
  • Divine Mystery
IMHO, I think you may be approaching the point where Prayer rather than study is your best course of action.

God Bless,

CARose
Thank you. I’ve been praying alot, and going to Mass. I’ve also started corresponding via email with a Catholic priest in Boston. And I’m also still talking to the priest and RCIA director at the local church here.
I’m curious, have a significant number of Jews over the centuries converted to Christianity?

Thank you for your insights into the Charisms. As for my languages, I read/write Hellenistic Greek (Or Biblical Greek, as many Christians call it), Biblical Hebrew, Spanish, and I’m currently studying French.
I love languages!

Yup! Don’t have names and numbers, but the answer is Yes!

There are somewhat recent examples such as Edith Stein, who entered a Carmelite Cloister to avoid the Nazi’s and then became a Catholic Saint, before being Martyred for the faith. The top Rabbi of Rome converted (don’t have details) and there have been others. I beleive one of the Cardinals is a convert from Judaism. I believe he’s either in Canada or France. Anyone out there know the details?

I’m certain I know others, but these are what come to mind right off the bat. I’m not accustomed to pigeon holing people based on where they come from before being Catholic. Once Catholic, you’re Catholic in my small mind.

Oh, and it sounds like Latin is in your future and perhaps some of the other ancient languages! 🙂 That’s so cool!

Oh, and I’m thrilled to know that you’re continuing to go to Mass, corresponding with Priests and praying. Prayer, both liturgical and private, are the gateway to all truth.

Thank you! And I’ve always wanted to learn Latin, by the way. My 11 year old niece speaks, reads, and writes it, and she’s giving me an inferiority complex. However, she is fluent in Spanish. We have alot of fun talking to each other at family dinners while everyone else looks at us in bewilderment! 😃

Well then I’d guess you’ll be speaking Latin in no time, that and some of the other ancient languages. My Aunt had the gift of Languages, something I always wanted! Good luck with it! I hope you contribute greatly to the Chruch through your use of the gift of languages.

Thank you! I’m going to keep praying. Please keep praying for me. I’m sure I’ll have more questions/observations to post here soon! 🙂

Please folks, one report is sufficient. More than one just adds to the moderators’ workload. If you need additional information, please send me a pm.

Thanks,

p.s., shouldn’t this thread be over in Apologetics? Any problem with it being moved there? No rush.

I have no objection to it being moved to Apologetics.

Are you suggesting we start a new thread there? I think it originally got started because a once upon a time newbie, now a veritable standard, started it where he was hanging at the water cooler.

I like what happened as a result! We got a good, non-confrontational conversation.

But moving it shouldn’t pose any problems if you want to do that (via admin.) or we could start a new thread if that’s what you want.

CARose

PS I wonder if we’ll attract a different crowd being in a different forum?

May I ask that you pray for those of us here as well. Believe it or not we need them too for issues in our own lives.

And know that nearly every time I read through your posts I send up a quick prayer for you as I also do at random times throughout the day.

I was wondering that as well. This should be interesting. I’m kind of glad it got moved. Let’s see what happens. 🙂

Jew Man, have you had a chance to read “Salvation is from the Jews by Roy H. Schoeman” yet? I’m sure it will give you some very good insights on your journey.

I have seen that you mentioned it on some previous posts, but I wasn’t sure if you had read it yet.

Of course, I’d be happy to remember off you in my prayers. And thank you very much for praying for me so frequently. That means alot.
