O’Neil

The idea behind the questions: I am looking for a Biblical answer for the ten kings in the Book of Revelation.

Decapolis: A ten-city Greco-Roman federation, or league, occupying all of Bashan and Gilead in northeastern Palestine.

King Herod had children that were also kings: How many of the Herodians werer kings?

I do not have a set passage for such question. Again, I am hoping to find biblical answers for the symbols in the Book of Revelation.

I hope I made a little more sense, sorry.

Also, how many high priest of the Jewish people were leaders, that is, king in a sense.

Thanks for all of your help…
From a historical sense at least, (Rev 17:9-10) describes the five who have fallen. Julius Caesar, Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, and Claudius I. Nero is the one who “is.” "the other [king who] has not yet come’ is Vespasian. (17:11) is Titus.

These kings are at war with the harlot (Jerusalem) (17:16) but the ten future kings who have not yet been crowned (17:12) will make war on the Lamb (17:14). So, even after the Temple and Jerusalem are destroyed Revelation tells the Church it will be persecuted by the beast as well. “but the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and king of kings.”

Nero is was the first to use the official authority of the Roman empire to persecute Christians. Considering Christian persecution didn’t reach it’s climax until about 300AD under Diocletian, and there were alot more than ten emperors between the two, ten is probably used more because it is the number of completion.

In other words, the future persecution of the struggling Church would be temporary because the persecutors would only be “kings for one hour.” They are only speed bumps on the road to eternity. Christ is a superior king.

Hope that helps because I can’t help you with any future application.

Peace,

Ryan 🙂

Thanks!

Yes that does help!

Rev 1: 9 Does it state that St. John will be going through the same troubles as the seven Churches?

Again, thanks!!!

I don’t know. In my opinion, he is making more of a general statement.

Peace,

Ryan 🙂

Walt

Did you do all of that work? That seems to be a lot of work, thanks!

Walt: in the book of Revelation it says ten to fifteen times: I will come soon, or I will come quickly, or the end is at hand.

Do your charts say that the end is over two thousand years after the writing of the book of Revelation?

Write slow, I read slow.

THANKS!!!

Revelation Says: Time Is at Hand, I Come Quickly
Revelation 1: 1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified [it] by his angel unto his servant John: 2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

Revelation 1: 3 Blessed [is] he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time [is] at hand.

Revelation 1: 4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace [be] unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; 5 And from Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness (Rev. 22: 20 He who testifies to these things), [and] the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Revelation 1: 7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they [also] which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
Clouds (“nephele”) is found in Revelation 1: 7; 10: 1; 11: 12; 14: 14; 14: 15; 14: 16.

Revelation 1: 8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Revelation 2: 5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. (Are these Churches in existence? Is it recorded that they repented?)

Revelation 2: 16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. (Cf. the Sword of His mouth passages.)

Revelation 2: 25 But hold fast what you have till I come.

Revelation 3: 10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Revelation 3: 11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Revelation 3: 12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, [which is] new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and * my new name.*

Time Is at Hand, continued

Galatians 2: 9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we [should go] unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

Revelation 3: 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
St. Luke 12: 36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.

Revelation 4: 1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door [was] opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard [was] as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.

Revelation 4: 8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about [him]; and [they were] full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. (He is with us at all times.)

Revelation 6: 11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season (“micros chronos”), until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they [were], should be fulfilled.

Revelation 10: 7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

Revelation 11: 14 The second woe is past; [and], behold, the third woe cometh quickly.

Revelation 14: 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

Revelation 14: 8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. (N. B. B. The creation accounts talk in the present and past tenses. Perhaps the Book of Revelation does the same.)

Revelation 14: 15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.

Revelation 16: 15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed [is] he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

Revelation 22: 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward [is] with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Revelation 3: 14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

What he is telling you ,is, time is irrelevant to the lord.
No man knows the time of the end, but the father in heaven.

How do you understand the passages that state: the end is at hand?

How do you understand–I come quickly?

I have read your posts for many months.

I enjoy them.

You posts are most complex, but I really enjoy reading them.

God bless,

Seamus O’Sullivan

When we discuss the fall of Jerusalem in context with Revelations/ Apocalypse I find it helpful to contrast it with the Olivet Discourse, b/c that clearly identifies Jerusalem and the Temple as the target of the destruction. I have a handy chart on my website which is linked in my signature. Also if you are talking to protestants especially anti catholic ones you will need protestant sources, like Hank Hanagraf, “the Bible Answer Man” who although not as Catholic as I would like has defended Catholicism as a true form of Christianity. just remember he is still protestant. I hope this helps!

I think it is you who gave me the idea to read Hank Hanegraaff’s book.

I enjoyed it.

It is good and helpful, with the caution you suggested.

I will go to your website.

THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

I have heard that the book “Revelations 3 views” is very good, even for Catholics. I am involved in training as an Old Catholic Deacon right now so I have not read it, but most Christian book stores carry it. It is supposed to evenly present most of the arguments and debates very evenly. I appreciate any traffic on my site. I have some Bible studies on there that you can feel free to print out and use. If you do give me some feed back, I am hoping to start a book on how the Bible proclaims the necessity of the Sacraments.

A word of warning Tim LaHaye has some books about reading prophesy for yourself that are very leading in their choice of verses and subject matter. I would avoid his books.

I am taking some of the difficult symbols in the Apocalypse and trying to join them to the best biblical examples that I can. Here are just two or three.

Rev 4: 16 Four beast full of eyes—best biblical suggestions–
  1. angels from Isaiah;
  2. spirit of the Lord (Rev. 5: 6)
  3. living Word of God (Heb. 4: 12),and the Four Gospels of the Lord that is, take the Gospel to the Ends of the World Matt 28: ??.
Rev 5: 6 Seven spirits of God–best biblical suggestions
  1. Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5: 17-22)
Rev. 12?? Lady clothed in the Sun–best biblical suggestions
  1. Mother of Our Lord come to visit me (Luke 2??)
  2. Power of the Holy Spirit shall overshadow you (Luke 2??)
  3. Sun Justice Mal 3: 20, Mary is the Mother of Our Lord Who is the Sun of Justice
Does this make a little sense?

Oh, this is my first effort.

Also, this is a rough darft.

THANKS!!!
