Tell me about it. It’s only happend to me once, but I was still irritated. I thought we hit it off-I met her at a bookstore we talked for about an hour. Oh well, it was about ten years ago.
Still irritates me though.
At least you know it was her loss. 😃

The only girl that was bona fide interested in me before I went to law school, I lost that number too. I still remember the name and surname and the street name over half a life later. I just couldn’t recall the house number and apartment number.
Let me guess the rest of this. After you graduated from law school (or perhaps when it was obvious you were going to graduate) you suddenly became far more handsome and engaging than previously, and women finally noticed how good looking and charming you really are. Right? :rotfl::rotfl: Funny how that works. When I was a freshman in high school, I was anything but popular with girls. But as a senior, guaranteed of graduation, I suddenly became much more attractive. As a college freshman, it was hard to get a date. As a senior, it was hard to fight them off. Last year of grad school? Bachelor paradise. First paying job with prospects? They would accost you everywhere. The combination of a suit and no wedding ring really do enhance a man’s appearance and personality. :rotfl::rotfl:

Not that I blame women for that, because I sure don’t. Just part of the game.

Wow! How brave. Now, this is just me, but if I gave a guy my number, unasked… well. It would be a situation where I’d never see him again if I didn’t do something and had already decided that he was godly and faithful and attractive. 😊 The pre-vetting is done. She’s already sized you up. You’re in, if you want to be. Give her a call.
Great point.

Getting a number like this from a totally “random” stranger on the street or in a bar would be different. But at a retreat?

Call her! It’s just a phone call, possibly a date. Even if it doesn’t go anywhere, her courage is admirable and should be rewarded. Catholic women have as much trouble finding good matches as Catholic men. Even if it doesn’t work out, just doing this makes her sound to me like a good possibility for a friend, and she’s got girlfriends, right?

I gave my number to a guy in a grocery store once. Now I’m married to him. 🙂

Where do you live? I can understand women seeking men with good jobs, but having a preference for college seniors or Ph.D. candidates? I have never heard of that.

I’m a barista at a small deli/ coffee shop, and we had a regular, “affectionately” called the “creepy hot chocolate dude” because he was, well, creepy. One day, he gave one of my coworkers a note to give to me with his number asking me to call or text him. This guy was almost twice my age and had kids not all that younger than me. We all laughed over it and I threw it away. He quit coming shortly after that incident, and someone told me he had really bad cancer. I felt horrible then, and thought maybe he had died. Last week, (like six months later) guess who walked in? Yep, talk about awkward:blush:!

I’m way to reserved to do that to a guy, but I’d love it if a nice Catholic guy would randomly hand me his number sometime. If you liked her (somewhat anyways- it sounds like you didn’t really have a chance to tell) I’d say go for it, what have you got to lose?

SSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO did you sms her or called her to hear her voice :hmmm::hmmm:

So what happen did you do it ???/and this is a question asked all the way from South Africa. 🍿 waiting
First of all, thank you to all who have responded:)

Here’s an update:

I did, in fact, text her tuesday afternoon and talked to her for a little bit, but she eventually stopped responding which was odd. I found her Facebook profile Tuesday night and friend requested her. As of right now there has been no response to the friend request, nor has there been any other response via text message. Also, on her Facebook profile, I am able to look at a select few of her pictures and there are pictures with what appears to be a boyfriend.

The mystery/drama continues…

Now I’m SUPER confused

She may be taken but perhaps unsure about the relationship so she’s “exploring other options”. Who knows, maybe her current b/f is not a good, Catholic-retreat-going person.

That might also explain why she is not too prompt in her replies.
Girls like having potential boyfriends on the side 🙂
You do what you will with this info 🙂

As a kid I was basically non-attractive because I was first fat, later just plump, nearly always on a doctor’s leave from physical education classes and generally not very fit as a result. On the other hand, flirting would be used to obtain homework to copy from me, oh sure it was. In highschool, things improved because the perception of a girl that age was closer to that of an adult woman, so basically not being a sporstman could be a liability but wasn’t making you untouchable, and I became skinny. By the last year, friends would introduce me as “the biggest charmer of this school” but in truth I didn’t have a girlfriend for a split second throughout highschool, I had my heart broken a couple of times by unilateral affections, plus a complicated non-relationship with a former personal enemy. 😃 But when law school started… 😉 And right now I have the biggest in following in the group of my age + 2 or 3 years.

LOL, yeah, I use that when I coach people and there’s an anonymous questionnaire for students to fill. Both of the law firms where I worked sent me to get the results from the clerks of justice if a girl or some other guy couldn’t bring them. But by that time I was heartbroken enough to be dysfunctional.

I don’t really either but if that’s the only thing they appreciate in the offer then I won’t be bothering them long. I’m ever so sligtly narcissistic, therefore I need the woman to put up at least a passable polite impression of being captivated with my personality. 😃

On the other hand, I can easily stop them cold by mentioning that I live in a room at my mother’s while doing my SJD/Ph.D. degree. 😉

Oh boy, as the holder of a criminal law degree and thus an expert on human nature, I am happy to run to your aid.

Confused people do not behave rationally and so they confuse others.

Also, people with a knack for special effects, such as very picturesque overtures, smashing entries etc. are prone to flash in the pan. I can see this in a mirror actually.

Real manipulators will consciously use confusion for their own goals. They will make you confused and uncertain so that you can’t keep your wits and put up a competent opposition to whatevre plans they have. Both male and female cons do this, as do male and female drama queens, although less consciously. I am not saying the girl from your story is doing just that but it is one of the more efficient strategies of those who actually want to manipulate others.

There’s always the possibility, however, that for some good reason she simply did not have the time to answer. I would take a day or two, compose a short and non-obsessive message asking her to clarify her intentions before you conclude that she has lost interest in maintaining the acquaintance. Three days after that message you can move on unless she was caught in an avalanche without phone or Internet connection.

You will yet notice that women sometimes lose interest in you the moment you return that interest. This is a sick pattern but definitely not rare. For the record, I do not claim that men are any better.

OP,

If you could listen to the conversations my buddies and I have when we are home on break from school or during the summer about girls, you’d find out girls do stuff like this all the time. Some of the shenanigans me and my buddies have experienced with girls could be made into a TV series. 😃

Like someone else said just give her a couple days then send her a message or w/e to see what the deal is. After that dont ever contact her again- let her get a hold of you.

The fact that you bothered to ask this question on a Catholic forum makes you a suspect choice for any woman’s affection…😃
