Does Raymond Arroyo still work for EWTN? I just happened to fall upon him speaking on Fox and was appalled at his cheap name calling, partisan commentary and superficial attacks on those he views as political opponents… a bit shocking.

I assume that EWTN wouldn’t allow that type of conflict… any one know?

He does still appear on EWTN, and occasionally has a panel, called “The Papal Posse” that discusses the Holy Father.

Arroyo has been a partisan for years - I thought that was altogether obvious.

As is EWTN. They slant hard right in politics.

Last election they would not interview a 3rd party candidate, cancelling the interview on EWTN radio, one who is a practicing Catholic on a platform that stood for Catholic teaching on life, in favor of Mr Trump.

I wonder how much that interview legitimized the trump Candidacy in the eyes of Catholics?

If people can get it- Boston Catholic TV is very good and is without drama or politics.

Was Mother openly partisan? I know she was very outspoken and definitely a vocal “conservative” in ecclesiastical matters (thinking of her public argument with Cardinal Mahoney)… but was she a vocal hard “Republican” in the secular sphere? Just curious if that’s something that’s happened since her tenure or if it was always there.

Back when I was watching Mother Angelica, I was a hard Republican, so I would not have noticed.

I don’t recall Mother speaking directly about politics in the same manner as Arroyo.

I do think that EWTV caters to their viewers/donors who lean to the right.

I stopped watching them during the last election when they gave preference to Donald Trump. I would suggest watching the EWTN nightly news to understand their political position.

The preference to Donald Trump, when the only other candidate with a statistical chance of winning was Hillary Clinton, doesn’t imply “hard right” to me. Rather they were picking the candidate who did not endorse at least 3 intrinsic evils.

Now if they supported Trump in the Republican primary over Rubio, Kasich, or other candidate more in line with Catholic teaching, I would agree with your assessment.

I’m sure there are some good folks there, but they have no chance of winning, either in the last election or the next one.

It will be a close vote in 2020, and the winner will be either Trump, or a Democrat who supports at least 3 intrinsic evils. No matter how much I don’t like that choice, the fact is, the winner will be either a Republican or a Democrat. The American Solidarity Party nominee will not win, (won’t even make the debate stage). I appreciate your principles, but I can’t in good conscience waste my vote and let the Democratic nominee win.

Blessings!

Also…back to your main point. EWTN realized that in the last election it was either going to be Trump or H. Clinton…they chose the least offensive candidate to get behind. Doesn’t make them “hard right”, just “a realist.”

I can understand that logic…but is it really that, or is it more the “Donald Trump is a wonderful Christian man whom we will follow to the end of the earth” mentality, which I DO see here at CAF a lot…and its disturbing.

Is EWTN hard right? Or is it that they are just orthodox in their views and lean more traditional. Something that left leaning Catholics are opposed to. What with their support for gay unions, and their support for all of this transgenderism nonsense, women deacons and priests, it’s no wonder they find fault with EWTN. That Arroyo and the Papal Posse dares to criticize the Pope makes them especially despised. Them and LifeSiteNews.

It seems like he has the posse on regularly. A posse is a group that bands together to go get an outlaw. It’s name is antagonistic.

There weren’t any other names available? Papal panel? Papal primer? Papal preview? Papal perspective?
They never had it before this Pope.

Ooff… constructive criticism of the Pope is fine. Blatant disrespect and irreverent targeting, not so much.

The more I learn about his guy, the more I find it difficult to understand how he would anchor a Catholic network.
