Reason why there is more sexual sin in this society

Does the fact that this generation delays marriage for the most part until the ages of 25-35 partly the reason why there is more sexual degeneracy and sin in today’s society?

I say this because as I recall the Blessed Virgin Mary was only around 14-16 years old when Christ was conceived. That means that the typical ages for marriage in the times of the apostles was 14-18. Did they have it easier than us because they were married almost immediately when hitting puberty?

As opposed to this generation which delays marriage and thus increases the chances of fornication. I’ve noticed that a lot of mormons marry young partly because of this reason to “avoid temptations.”

Honestely, I believe that may have something to do with it. We’re expected to have marital sex almost 15 years after we start desiring sex in the first place.

Also, I don’t think that it was this society that invented orgies, multiple sex partners, etc.

I think its a big reason. While there has been sexual temptation before, now it is on a higher level. There is not a person, including priests and the Pope, that could do something sexually, anything sexually, and surprise me. We are so conditioned to sexual sin that it is really not a big deal to most people.

For me, it is a great frustration. I have no marriage prospects havent had a date in only 5 years, never had a steady girlfriend before, and feel like I am 10-20 years away from being married if at all. I am 23. That would put me at 33-43. I hope I can make it through without falling. It is very hard. The temptation is there. I am always tempted to go for a secular girl just to have a sexual outlet.

The reason behind all this is that there are women in the workforce. Women have driven down wages due to excess supply of workers. Women are not becoming SAHMs and housewives anymore. Women dont need marriage anymore. If women were not in the workforce and culturally needed to be housewives, marriage age would be younger. Now, women become moms when they feel their clock ticking or they get tired of work and want an easier job.

I’m sorry, but I COMPLETELY disagree. You make it seem as if women working is a bad thing, while it clearly isn’t and this has no connection as to why there is more sexual temptation in our society. There are plenty of women who have careers and can be among the best Catholic mothers around. Many of this women also happen to marry in their early 20s.

Second, you’re assuming that in the past there was not sexual degeneracy. But thats not the case. As St. Paul’s Epistles clearly show, homosexuality, promiscuity and extra-marital affairs were prominent back then. If they were not, he didn’t need to constantly remind them

A large portion could be due to the lack of consequences presented in today’s society.
For instance, if you want to have sex, just grab a condom! That makes it TOTALLY ok, right?
But what if you get pregnant… that’s simple! Just take the day after pill or have an abortion!

“Prominent” seems rather an understatement in relation to what went on sexually in Roman society. After reading some things and watching various archeological and historical documentaries on the subject, I’ve come to the conclusion that even we haven’t reached that level of degeneracy–yet. Those early Christians lived in a society that was saturated in sex. No wonder Paul had such a big job in having to constantly remind them!

Hi all,
I think that sex is a huge marketable commodity today. “Sex sells” as the advertisers are happy to remind us. Thus the beautiful God-given mystery of human sexuality is coarsened and packaged as an economic activity. We only have to consider the internet which is awash with distorted visions of sex. This all provides ample occasion of sin.
TV soaps put across the irresponsible message of sex without consequence, a point concisely made by a previous poster.

Basically sex, pornography, immodesty became rampant and fashionable. For forty years we have had naked women in our daily newspapers in the UK. An affront to both women and God. Sex sells, business knows this, look at the adverts that surround us. Interestingly, in ‘Godless’ sates such as the old Soviet Union and Maoist China pornography was banned as an insult to the dignity of women. One of the prices we pay for our ‘freedom’ is the exploitation of our fellow human beings for the ‘entertainment’ and satisfaction of the satyric desires of others.

I can’t but help laugh at the last sentence… “tired of work and want an easier job”. I sure home you didn’t mean that being a SAHM is easier than working full time cause I’m here to tell you that a 40 hour work week is a whole hell of a lot easier than being a 24/7 SAHM and the retirement plan and benefits also are much better for a working woman.

Delayed marriage is about society telling us that we should be out there having a ball and that having a family is a drag. It’s all about the wedding and not the marriage. When society said that having a family was what it was all about that is what both men and women planned for but now they plan for themselves as individuals. So even if you are the one among the few who see marriage and a family as the end goal, you will be hard pressed to find a like minded individual.

Maybe it’s because you can’t even go to Mass without bumping into someone who is immodestly dressed. Last Sunday I went to Mass at the National Shrine. I normally go to the TLM, but I was invited to go and the National Shrine usually has a reverent Mass so I didn’t fight it. The woman to the right of me had on very tight fitting clothes that left nothing to the imagination. The woman in front of me was wearing a thong (her thong string was sticking out). The woman next to her was sporting so much cleavage you would have thought she was going to the club after Mass.

Men were just as bad. They were wearing tight jeans, muscle shirts, sleeveless shirts etc. If you can’t escape immodesty at Mass, you know you see it everywhere else and thus temptation is all around you.

I ended up having to keep my eyes closed through most of the Mass. During the “Sign of Peace,” cleavage woman made a comment that I must be so pious because I appeared to be meditating through the Mass. I wanted to tell her that it was her immodesty in dress that forced me into closing my eyes, but I refrained.

So it is a woman’s fault that the wages are low? I’m not even going to touch that one b/c I’m already getting angry and may say something that will put me in the confessional. I wouldn’t advise saying anything like this to your future girlfriend whenever you find one b/c then you will find yourself without one.

You try to be a SAHM sometime and see what it is like! I know plenty of women that stayed at home and they begged to go to work just to get a break. Maybe you should do a little more research before making such statements as you did.

Agreed! Society has imposed this on us. As much as we would want the mothers to stay at home and take care of the kids, its impossible! Not with a mortgage, car payments, saving for education, etc.

Fashionable? Who sets fashion? It’s sad about naked women in the papers in the UK but who controls the papers?

On this side of the pond, perverts and deviants set the stage. It wasn’t the people, that’s for sure.

1968 The Hippies. “Free love!” Sex with anyone. “Off the pigs!” Kill the police. “Down with the Establishment!” The old order had to go. “Don’t trust anyone over 30!” Mom, dad, priests, nuns and so on.

1970s Moneys spent and laws passed: Abult Bookstores selling graphic images of prostitutes. Topless bars and strip clubs. Who was behind this?

1980s Porn on cable.

1990s Movies and TV programs grow more coarse, more sexual and more lewd.

Then the internet.

A small group of perverts and sexual deviants opened those places in our neighborhoods to multiply temptations. They knew what they were doing. The same with filmmakers and TV producers. And the same with the perverts and deviants on the internet.

The goal? To remake the world in their image and likeness.

The reason there is more sexual sin than a couple of generations ago? IMHO it’s because people don’t believe in sin. They don’t believe in hell. When I converted fear of hell and the grace of God helped me give up sexual sin. It’s a powerful drive and we need grace for self mastery.
