It gets it’s start in the Declaration of Independence:

and is further implied in the 14th amendment.

The Court examined the nature of fundamental rights guaranteed to all by the Constitution, the harm done to individuals by delaying the implementation of such rights while the democratic process plays out, and the evolving understanding of discrimination and inequality that has developed greatly since Baker.

The so-called “supremacy clause” of the Constitution, found in Article 6, states, “This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding [emphasis added].”

The key, of course, is the italicized phrase. All laws made in pursuance of the Constitution, or those clearly enumerated in the document, were supreme, State laws notwithstanding. In other words, the federal government was supreme in all items clearly listed in the document.

Brion summed it up with this gem:

The ability to predict the future does not exist. Working to “get the numbers up” is just marketing and propaganda. The young rarely understand either.

Why Supreme Court got it wrong
This is no way to run a republic.
In his Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln spoke of a “government of the people, by the people, for the people.” The most important words in that most memorable phrase are “the people,” for it is to them that freedom belongs and to them that its protection is entrusted.
The Supreme Court has overridden a goodly portion of the freedom that is the birthright of every American. It is now our task, using legitimate and appropriate channels, to wrest it back, and then, much like Lincoln’s audience, to preserve it for future generations.

Today’s youth grew up in a much more permissive environment than boomers and most genXers.
 
Marriage is not something that the government had a hand in until like 100 years ago.
They screwed it up pretty quickly, didn’t take them long.

Does it not creep anyone else out when they hear marriages say, “By the power invested in me by the State of ((name removed by moderator)ut state)” instead of by the power invested by God?
The state is not God.

There are two things to cover:
  1. do you want arguments against the legality of such, or
  2. do you want arguments against the morality of such?
Being kind and being nice are different things.

What is better to build virtue? A life of chastity or a life of unnatural (in the philosophical sense) relations?

Imo, the government shouldn’t have any right to marry.
 
Just as they did from false information fed to them by a group called NARAL regarding abortion, and who made sure the media picked up on it as well. Jane Roe of Roe v. Wade never got an abortion even though the law allowed her to. Her real name is Norma McCorvey and she became actively pro-life.

A very valid observation. Today’s youth are not taught critical thinking but allow themselves to be spoon-fed by the media and gay activists.
 
Does permissive = right? and are they forever doomed to not come to their senses?

NO, not at all. These are the fruits of kicking God out of the classroom. When I was a kid, family life looked like My Three Sons and the Cleavers. Now family life looks like… well I can’t even tell you, I don’t know if there are any TV families any more.
 
They were effective is teaching that if it doesn’t hurt someone it is then OK. They were effective in corrupting true love. They were effective in teaching them “it is what I want”. They were effective in teaching them “don’t judge” entirely missing the meaning.
