Hi, Gadgeteer!
Jesusās Cup is a physical torment, torture, crucifixion, death⦠some of His Disciples will in deed experience the sameāsome are experiencing it even today, in various places in the world.
I just donāt see it saying āwe have to (physically) die, and/or be crucifiedā. Other verses say āwe have to dieā ā Spiritually, die to sin; only those who have died are alive in Christ.Yet, not all Believers will experience a physical passion and death⦠but all Believers will experience a Mystical passion and death⦠and as all experience Christās Cup then all will be raised (resurrected) as Christ was Resurrected by the Holy Spirit!
Well said! They are āwolves in sheepās clothingā, they āhave a form of godliness but deny the powerā.ā¦and yet, not all of us have died; too many Christians embrace the worldās understanding of theology and Spirituality; not dying to themselves but actually crucifying Christ all over again as they make themselves one with unrighteousness (1 Corinthians 6:15-20); they may claim Him; they, at one time or another, may even preach, heal, cast out evil⦠in His Name⦠but they have not died to unrighteousness (St. Matthew 7:21-23); just because they had joined the Body through Baptism (water) that does not mean that they remained Faithful and Obedient!
Speaking of wolves ā has any OSASāer (including Calvinists) been able to answer Acts20:28-29? Who is āthe-flockā, and what does ānot-sparingā mean?
How many sides does a circle have?I think that we will go on forever with this one (well, redundancy and circular does seem to intimate āforeverā); it seems that thereās no way that I can get you to see that the water element is used by the Holy Spirit to transform man from sin to righteousnessānot because of the element (water) but because of the Obedience to Godās Command that all should be Baptized⦠and that it is this Baptism that Unites us to Christās Mystical Body affording us the Mystical Experience of His Blood (Passion, Death, Resurrection).
(The IN-side, and the OUT-sideā¦)
No, in Matt3:11 and Rom8:15 and others, ābaptized-with-the-Spiritā, simply means āreceiving Him.ā Not really a separate event from salvation, itās part of becoming saved. You continue to equate regeneration with Baptism of the Holy Spirit
I see it as a āsymbolā; and ackowledge Peterās words in 1:3:21, āwaterbaptism saves you as an appeal to God for a clear conscienceā ā if accompanied by repentance.and thusly you remove the water Baptism from existence (anything that is superfluous is inert: inexistent).
What do you mean ārevelation-of-the-Holy-Spiritā? We receive the Spirit, an intimate union just as we are united to Jesus. That it is a conspicuous (and constant) fellowship, is clear in verses like Eph5:18ā¦You also equate the Revelation of the Holy Spirit as the proof of Baptism in the Holy Spirit; but you do not seem to mind that there are so many variations of the Holy Spiritās Revelation (from Pentecost, to semi Pentecost, to individual Revelations) and you do not acknowledge that there are reasons for these variationsāonly that they just happened to have happened.
I cannot accept anything other than what I have been attempting to convey.
Actually, you and I are more in agreement than you think. We agree waterbaptism is a symbol, itās a command, and we agree salvation is by Godās grace through our faith and not by works; we both have been waterbaptized, we accept each other as brothers-in-Christ.We are at the impasse which engenders the circular elementā¦
Thereās a lot more on which we agreeā¦
