The answer was; "And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Eli’jah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.
But this response does not in any way contradict the concept of reincarnation.

The context clearly shows the jews of the time believed in reincarnation.

Jesus’ response implies only that certain beliefs about his prior physical identity were either incorrect or irrelevant.

Jesus says absolutely nothing to contradict the then held jewish belief that “Eli’jah, and others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets” might be reborn in another physical body.
I disagree. The answer doesn’t necessarily prove they believed in re-incarnation. They probably believed that Elijah or Jeremiah had returned from the dead, not that they had been reborn in another body. Those are entirely different scenarios.

The apostles were the original disciples. John was the beloved disciple.
so,perhaps you will tell us now why he was beloved, what special thing did he do or say that made him beloved - btw with John there would have been a scandal but Lazarus took Mary to be with his sisters Martha and Mary - twinc

How do you manage to dream up this rubbish?
From the Cross Jesus entrusted his mother to John and NOT to Lazarus.

were Jesus and his apostles and disciples as jews familiar with the doctrine of reincarnation.Notice the reply here and elsewhere "Who do men say I am - the reply was ? - any comments - twinc
it was prophesied that Elijah would return. not in a reincarnated form, but as himself. the Jews also looked for a coming prophet, and finally for Messiah.

the debates about Jesus included who, exactly , He was. was He Elijah? a prophet? the Christ (Messiah) Himself? this is not a teaching about reincarnation, but rather a reference to Jewish prophecy.

as to why John was beloved, the Bible doesn’t say. likely he was simply a close friend, faithful follower, and obedient and humble disciple. Jesus, as a Jew, would have been aware of the sinfulness of both same-sex affairs and of fornication (sex outside of marriage). as the Messiah, and as the sinless Son of God, Jesus did no wrong, so would not have had affairs with any of His disciples, knowing that this would be a sin against His Father, and being without sin.

He did not come to start a family or to enjoy Himself, He came to die for us, and rise again.

it was also prophesied of Him that He would be without offspring, and future descendants (Isaiah 53:8).

When Jesus saw His mother there, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

John 19:26-27

I thank you for your considered reply but this is well known and not in dispute or contention - nowhere is John mentioned here as the disciple in question - please reconsider and rsvp - twinc

It’s a long-held (2000 years!) tradition that the disciple that Jesus loves is John. Are you going to come along now and refute that?

I won’t address every single thing you have said wrong, there are many. This is just completely false. Indeed there is scriptural proof that John was the disciple whom Jesus loved. Try John 21:20 “Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved, the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper and had said ‘Master, who is the one who will betray you?’”

The disciple whom Jesus loved is clearly John. Nobody familiar with scripture would ever make the assertions you have made on this forum. Which begs the question, why on earth would you be trying to push your ideas on people on this forum, rather than learning, when you have little or no knowledge of even the basics of scripture? You could learn a lot from the well-read, knowledgeable and prayerful people on this forum, yet you would rather argue nonsense? May your heart and mind be softened and humbled.

Peace and blessings,
Frank

Yes, Lazarus and his sisters were great friends of Jesus, but can you tell us why? No, because it’s not in the Bible. It’s the same with John. We don’t know why John was beloved of Jesus because it’s not recorded.

I just quoted the passage, read my post. It says right there that the disciple whom Jesus loved was the very same who leaned against Him at the last supper. This is John. There is no dispute, what are you trying to ask? For that matter, what are you trying to accomplish on this forum? The Church teaches what it does because it is true doctrine. The Church does not make things up. Something you think of and try to convince others of, that directly conflicts with Church teaching, will always be wrong. Pure and simple.

If you are a Catholic, realize what that means. The Catholic Church is the fullness of the Christian faith, She is the Church Christ established on the Rock that is Peter. If I am in conflict with the Church, I am wrong and the Church is right. The same goes for you.

Peace and blessings,
Frank

it’s not the Church you are quoting - methinks you are paying too much attention to Da Vinci books and paintings of people who were not there - the lives of Lazarus,BVM,and the sisters Martha and Mary were in great danger and not at all as smooth and serene as some seem to gather from a smattering of gospel reading - that Lazarus.s life was in great danger is undeniable especially as the beloved disciple whilst John it seems was in no such danger and he lived to a ripe old age - guess what happened to Lazarus and his sisters - twinc

You, my friend, are seriously deluded. Either that or a troll, just trying to start an argument. If you’re serious, stop talking in riddles and give us some citations.:jrbirdman:

That makes no sense unless you think they believed Jesus appeared out of nowhere as a fully grown man.

If they believed that Jesus was born as a baby in the normal manner and grew to adulthood in the normal manner, that can only mean they believed in reincarnation.

I really doubt if you can find any scriptural evidence that they believed Jesus appeared out of nowhere as a fully grown man.

Your reference to the Da Vinci Code and the paintings it references is nonsense, and has nothing to do with the question we are discussing. First off, the Da Vinci Code is a fiction novel that has been misrepresented as based on truth, and has nothing to do with any intelligent Catholic dialogue, and I do not understand why you would reference it.

To the point, you claim that “the beloved disciple” or “the disciple whom Jesus loved” was Lazarus and not St. John the Evangelist. You claimed there was no scripture to support that the beloved disciple was John, and I gave you the scripture passage that says that the beloved disciple WAS John. You are wrong, and you are trying to argue in circles.

Nobody said Lazarus, his sisters, or the Blessed Virgin had easy lives. What are you talking about? What are your rambling posts trying to say? Please clarify what your point is and I will gladly reply.

Peace and blessings,
Frank

Jesus is God Reincarnated. That’s something we all agree on. Now we do have beliefs similar to those regarding the Hindu doctrine of “karma”, but it is not karma, it is judgment by God, whether good or bad, based on previous actions of yours. One may argue it is the same doctrine, while others beg to differ. That is not mine to discern.

That is not true!
Jesus is God incarnate and not reincarnated.
