I have noticed that most theca container has a loop that made it possible to become a necklace. My question is, Are they for wearing? in olden times, how about now.
Thanks

Did anybody get a chance to Pray and venerate the Relic of Blessed Pope John Paul II at Corpus Christi Church in Buffalo, NY on May. 8th, 2013, Wednesday and May. 9th, 2013, Thursday?

In the meantime, please forgive me and bear with me…Also, if I am missing anyone of you–please let me know by Private Message only.

God be with you,

I don’t see anything wrong with wearing a theca as a necklace - it would be similar to, perhaps, wearing a medal of a saint or a crucifix for protection and as a symbol for your faith. After all, many shrines give out relics in small medals meant to be worn around the neck - e.g. like the 3rd class relic medals offered at St Anthony’s Shrine in Padua. This is a very old tradition - during the Middle Ages and later, pilgrims would wear relics around their necks, for reasons of protection, devotion and prayer and to have the Saint symbolically close to the person’s heart.

Hi im fairly new to this forum, but i just wanted to say thank you for this thread! Especially thank you to Goforgoal! I have recieved many relics and learned about so many new saints i never knew about before. I am especially fond of Blessed Maria Teresa of St. Joseph and the sisters sent me a LOT of relics from her (don’t worry my friend who teaches a confirmation class will talk about Blessed Teresa of St. Joseph and i am giving her almost all of them to give to the students). Anyway the nuns are very generous and I will send them a donation. But I would like to ask if anybody else that recieved anything from them might also be able to send them some money as a thank you for their generosity!

Thanks! 😃 😃 😃 😃

Praise the Lord: Father, Son and Holy Spirit! I have just received the third class relic of saint Anthony of Padua from the Franciscan Mission Associate on the Pentecost Sunday! Halleluia! Halleluia!

Nice…can you send me the contact/ email where you requested:)

I recently found this great website about St Gemma, which has vey interesting articles abut her holy and saintly life.

stgemmagalgani.com/

However, I also noticed that 2nd class (ex capsa - from the coffin , and ex- indumentis, from the clothing), as well as 3rd class relics, are being sold on the website. The website even has links to relics that it s selling on ebay. (Presumably by the webmaster - ebay.com/sch/glennd860/m.html?rt=nc&LH_Auction=1).

I’m not all too comfortable with this - is this not simony? Canon Law states:
  • Canon 1190 - It is strictly forbidden to sell sacred relics.
So, in effect, whether distributing relics for a donation or though eBay auctions, is this not wrong? The website is very informative, but this aspect of it makes me feel slightly uncomfortable.

Regards and God bless,
