So protecting human life isn’t a traditional Catholic value?
  1. Knights Templar (Clement issued a Papal Bull on 22 November, ordering that Templars be arrested and tortured all over Europe, and they were. )
  2. Joan Of Arc
  3. Jan Hus ( They refused him the Last Rites and burned him at the stake.)
  4. William Tyndale (charged with heresy for no other reason than translating the Bible into English, and strangled, then burned at the stake, on 6 October 1536 )
  5. Inquisitions ( from 1100s to 1808 )
  6. Medieval Witch Hunts ( 40,000 to 100,000 dead, just in the period of c. 1480 to c. 1750. )
  7. And some would say The Crusades ( 1000s to 1500s )
just to name a few.

Notable mentioned: John Wycliffe ( 30 years after his death, Pope Martin V had him dug up and burned at the stake.)

So I can put you in the “No” camp for “Protecting human life a traditional Catholic value.”?

History of Catholic Church speaks for itself.
Just like Trump’s History speaks for himself.

Historically from the 1000s to the 1800s “Yes”.
From then on? “No”
It is all relative to the point in time.

So Catholic values are relative to the values of the time. It’s a shame Flip Wilson is gone, he would have made a hilarious Pope.

And? The heretics weren’t going to execute themselves.

Seriously though, almost all of those were executed by state authorities, not the church.

So, you’re saying there are no traditional Catholic values. It’s all just power politics.
No, I would more say it is all about power. They lost power after 1808. At some point in time, it lost the ability to control the Nations. It lost the ability to mass an Army to do it’s bidding. Maybe the Masses no longer had the stomach for the things it and them once did. The Atrocities of the Inquisitions were bad enough, not to mention the Witch trials. After 1808, the masses started to progress and it still continues and it will not stop.

Nope, but again, the church rarely executed people for heresy. Then again, comparing executing people leading souls towards eternal damnation isn’t exactly comparable to killing an innocent child in the womb.

You consider it dark. I don’t have any problem with either history. You can’t shape the world with hugs and kisses. Sometimes men have to be willing to commit acts of violence to further a cause.

The Church had to defend itself. Against heretics, against invaders, against various kings, etc. Oftentimes that meant violence, so be it.

I just watched the Kennedy video… hah! I hope the Dems aren’t pinning their hope on this guy. Talk about white priviledge… This guy is the actually picture beside websters definition.

What a JOKE!

So, being white and rich is some sort of disqualifier in one’s a Democrat? Really? That seems pretty racist to me.

LMAO… I didn’t say any such thing. I just made an observation about this fella be the definition of White Privilege. Something The Dems seem to have an issue with. This Idea came from your head… I wonder if that is telling somehow. hmmm?

Many of the things you have written about Trump are aimed at his wealth… you should reelax a bit or the hypocrisy meter might start to scream from overindulgence.

Given the identity politics the Dems are courting at the moment, parading out a privileged white straight male as the champion of supposedly disenfranchised minorities doesn’t seem like a winning strategy.

Now, if they found a multi racial, gender fluid, pansexual, Muslim, who grew up in Section 8 housing after being adopted by a gay couple, THAT would sell to their current narrative.

Why do some people here lie as I never said one word to criticize Trump’s wealth? Maybe they’re not aware that to “bear false witness” is one of the Ten Commandments, or maybe they just don’t care if it is.

As I stated in a previous post, I don’t think the Dreamers are likely to be helped by the Republicans to stay and gain a pathway to citizenship, largely because the right-wing of the party does’t want those brown-skinned people here that are likely to vote Democratic, and this includes Trump, who’s racism has been well established. He pays lip-service to them, but I doubt very much if he’ll ever deliver.
@HCTC

You know, these comments and likes are exactly what gives Richard Spencer power.

Remind me again how many brown-skinned Democratic President there were? And the last time I looked, there were more brown-skinned Republicans in Congress than Democrats. Explain to me how Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Susanna Martinez got elected. And if Trump’s a racist, why did he pick Ben Carson and Nikki Haley to be in his administration?

Would you like me to share some of things that the tolerant left has said to me?
Which does go to show that, unlike the Republicans, have a motivation that is humanitarian and not self-serving. I used to be a Republican, but I left it decades ago because they were elevating money over people, plus their increase in the number of racists after they absorbed the vast majority of the “Southern Democrats” (“Dixiecrats”) starting in the late 1960’s after LBJ got the Civil Rights Acts passed.
Actually, most of the Dixiecrat leaders (93%) went back to the Democratic Party. The one guy who didn’t had an affair with a Black woman. But boy, he sure must hate to those POC! GRRR!!!

LBJ only signed the Civil Rights Acts to get the Democratic Party votes, not because he cared about them. In fact, as Senate Majority Leader, LBJ worked with segregationist Democrats to block President Eisenhower from dealing with the issue to hurt the GOP voter base.

As far as the “big switch” myth goes, D’Souza has decisively disproved that: “as republican strength grew in the south, racism declined”.

And really—are you going to sit there and tell me that Richard Milhouse Nixon convinced on some magical day in the 1970s all the racists in the south to abandon the party that stood with them for over 150 bloody years?
So, being white and rich is some sort of disqualifier in one’s a Democrat? Really? That seems pretty racist to me.
blah! blah! blah! Racist this, racist that.

🤣

This is great. Someone who thinks the Democrats “care”. Their treatment of conservative minorities tells you all you need to know about that.

Oh, just curious: how many Democrats house dreamers?
BTW, are you aware of the fact that the Catholic bishops here in the States have been emphatic about helping the Dreamers, including a pathway to citizenship? Matter of fact, I think any compassionate person would want to help these people that came not on their own volition but who have lived here most of their lives.
🤣

I think they need to listen to Bishop Sheen’s lecture on false compassion.
