It would depend on what other issues he was for or against. His position on gay rights and marriage equality would be some things I looked at…but not the only issue I would decide whether I voted for him or not.

Fine, he said he believed life began at conception, I’m not about to support a party that supports infanticide like some.

Boy did you call that one Ridgerunner. Democrat Catholics are always making the argument that “there’s no political solution to abortion”. “It doesn’t matter who you vote for they’re all politicians”. “X pro life Republican is a flip flopper”. “There are pro-life democrats too.” Democrat Catholics say these things this because they know deep down if they acknowledge the truth about the difference between the parties then the logical conclusion would be to vote for the Republican. And that is something democrat Catholics hate more than anything is the idea of voting for a Republican. As estesbob points out: legal abortion will end when democrat Catholics come to hate abortion more than they hate the Republican Party. Or, love the unborn more than they love the Democrat party. That is what this thread reveals.

I would like to hear Rep. Ryan explain more about his position. At that time I would make up my mind.
I will pray for him.

I’m at the point where I feel that I have to vote for my political enemies who seem to have more INTEGRITY in the bad agenda, just to teach my political friends that they have to have INTEGRITY in pushing forward their relatively good agenda.

Don’t get me wrong, the issue of “gay adoption” is not as big as the “waffle” factor.

yeah, ain’t the good ol USA great! I get to vote and I’m a woman :eek: go figure! I am proud to be a moderate/independent. I can think for myself. Seems Ryan has a opinion, that is about it, but wow!..that made some “extreme” "rightys’ a bit nervous. Karma…it never fails. 😃

FWIW, yeah, Ryan is a good guy…loves his job, his family, is good at math. But ya know…when push comes to shove…he is a politician. I haven’t seen one in the last 37 yrs that was perfect, or didn’t change their minds on issues.🤷

Are we suppose to be surprised? This is the same guy who has upheld Ayn Rand–a devout anti-catholic atheist–as formative in his economic philosophy and who adopted Romney’s pro-choice exceptions in abortion which also was at odds with the catholic faith.

Face it, the GOP only “conserve” mistakes made by progressives in the past.

Technically, he hasn’t “waffled.” That will only be the case if he reverses his stance. 🙂

Buddhist Catholic? 😃 too funny. Catholic, just Catholic. It’s great to learn new words and interesting things about other cultures. I don’t live in a fish bowl.🤷

This is the second time you’ve made the point that you are a moderate and can think for yourself. Are you suggesting that those of us who won’t support any anti-life politicain are unable to think for ourselves? Maybe I’m reading you wrong, but I am also quite able to think for myself.

As one who’s read many works of Ayn Rand myself, I would concur. But to be fair, he did state at his debate that he believes life does start at conception. I don’t think Ayn Rand disputes this fact; however she does state the fetus has no rights at all until actual birth.
 
This is out of pure curiosity, but why do you [the forum as a whole] consider gay adoption to be such a bad thing? Again, just curious.

You’re right. He said that he would waffle if he were given a 2nd chance. Maybe he’s only trying to sucker gay adoption / support. Maybe, if he really was given a 2nd chance, he would only waffle on his suggestion that he would waffle if he had a 2nd chance. Whew! You know there are waffles within waffles. He had me going … I thought he was talking about real waffles, not maybe waffles.
