That sounds horrible. My school was lucky; all our lockerrooms had shower stalls and changing stalls. We had to take turns as there weren’t enough showers for us all to go at once but the teachers organised it well.

Yes, she may sue. I am watching this one having had a similar episode at my gym around two years ago. However, I must say my gym did not kick me out - the gym was responsive to me when I presented my concerns; they talked to the transgender man about my being uncomfortable with his behavior in terms of staring and eye contact - and I did not see him return to the locker-room. He had received a previous complaint as well from another woman for basically the same thing and had been cautioned. My gym also has an all gender changing room/toilet for use by anyone who wants to use it; separate bathroom basically, includes a shower. The law remains though that men can use the women’s locker room if they self identify as women - including men who are still biologically male. I have seen one other male in the women’s locker room since my episode, but this is after many visits, so it is a relatively rare occurrence there I think. This second time I and another women were in the locker area with him; we both left that area and changed elsewhere - each going to a private bathroom stall, not speaking to each other at all; it was weird how we both reacted the same, not planned. I didn’t say anything to the gym management this time because this guy was not aggressive or making eye contact or anything. He was uncomfortable. We all were. I think gender should be determined by biological factors, not self-perception in gyms, with a third facility if available - if not biology governs. As I say, I am watching this one very closely from here in the Evergreen State.

If I gave the impression that both sexes used the same locker room, I’m sorry for my poor wording. The gym classes were not sex segregated unless you played on one of the school’s athletic teams, in which case you were exempted from the standard physical education requirement and instead would spend that extra period at practice with your sex-segregated team (sort of like “Honors PE”, I suppose). The locker rooms were indeed sex segregated but the facilities within the locker rooms had no privacy whatsoever since the school was built in the 50s. With Lesbian and Gay issues coming into the socio-political spotlight in the late aughts some parents started complaining about the lack of privacy and so the school just did away with showering altogether… as in they banned it!

[…] protecting vago-americans from penile-americans (ugh, what wretched terms) […]
Hmm. Sounds better in Greek: Peotic- (pertaining to the penis) and Colpotic- (pertaining to the vagina). Alternatively we can bring back Hysteric- to its proper etymology. It’d be nice to be able to say “the Hysterical Restroom” without everyone calling me a misogynist.

There are usually family bathrooms at these kind of places. With completely lockable shower rooms and completely lockable toilets. One would think a person not fully in transition would use these spaces? Or the person upset about who is in the men’s or women’s locker room?

Adult penises have no place in women’s toilets or changing rooms. People with said penises who enter these spaces without good reason (like an emergency) are perverts.

At the Planet Fitness I go to, there’s just a men’s locker room and a women’s locker room. There are no family bathrooms (the lower age limit – 13 years old – makes that unnecessary). There are no lockable shower rooms. There are typical public toilet stalls, but no private bathrooms.

This whole affair is 😱

But I do concede sometimes this is culture specific.
In some European culture they just have unisex change rooms for many years.

So I guess society culture is changing regarding transgender persons in locker rooms whether we like it or not.

We’re not Europeans, though. Our culture is different. Doesn’t make them right and us wrong at all, any more than it makes the reverse true.

I don’t think this guy is actually transgender, though.

Oh yes agree with you.

My main point is not about right or wrong. I’m just lamenting the fact that culture is changing.

Also possible: The woman who complained is a TERF making trouble.

ETA: Or transphobes making trouble. Why are the only sources for this from Christian and/or conservative sources? I call b.s. on this.

I agree there are two sides to every story. But terminating anyone isn’t necessarily the answer.

Certainly. But it is if one person’s behavior is contrary to the center’s policies.

I googled this several ways. I got two pages of results pointing to this and everyone of them is Christian or conservative and also, fringe. Lifesite News was the original source for many which is telling.

Also, most of the articles refer to a transman. Transwoman is correct in this case. If an article can’t even be bothered to get this right why do you think anything else they write is correct?
