Other churches ought to take very serious heed as well
They should but they will in the end comply. They do not have the philosophical arguments to deal with medical ethics other than saying the bible says it’s wrong. They will likely end up accepting the mandate by reasoning that the end justifies the mean, that they can do more good operating with some faith than not at all. They have no concept of intrinsic evils.

“If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention” It would appear our fellow Papists aren’t paying attention. Obamacare was truly a Trojan horse and Bishop Dolan’s protests now appear to be too little too late.
I couldn’t have said it better.

Democrat Catholics of these forums, tell me, in light of this news, how you can in good conscience vote for Obama for re-election.

They will defend him, of that I am sure. I am very sad about the whole mess.

Other churches ought to take very serious heed as well. The Catholic Church is far and away the largest single church in the U.S., is organized, and has a heirarchy that can speak with authority to its members (to the extent we listen). All other churches, including the second largest (the Southern Baptist Convention) are far more vulnerable. If this administration succeeds in its anti-Catholic agenda, the others have no chance at all.

Some of the people in other churches know that quite well. Some of them don’t.

Protestant and orthodox Jewish leaders join in opposition to HHS contraceptive mandate.
Protestants and Jews declare to White House: We stand with Catholics
Today (December 22, 2011) , more than 40 non-Catholic religious organizations including Protestant-affiliated colleges, National Association of Evangelicals, Focus on the Family, Assemblies of God, Northwest Nazarene University, and Eastern Mennonite University, sent a letter to the White House demanding religious protection against the newly issued HHS contraceptive mandate.
“We write not in opposition to Catholic leaders and organizations. We write in solidarity.” Says the coalition letter. “Leaders of other faiths are also deeply troubled by and opposed to the mandate and the narrow exemption.”

Maybe, maybe not. Where are the Democrat catholic posters now? What do they think of this development?

I am pretty sure it is before them now, but I will have to look it up to be sure. 2 lower courts (at least) have already found it unconstitutional. There is really no doubt that it is, but the timing, as you say, could be critical. And there have already been detrimental effects (doctors and other health care professionals choosing to retire) that will be difficult to reverse.

Edited to clarify: It is the individual mandate that makes the law completely unconstitutional, because there is no way to excise that requirement, so if that is found unconstitutional by the SCOTUS, the whole thing will have to be scrapped.
That gives me hope then, but a guarded hope. Given that Obamacare is the centerpiece of Obama’s 1st term, it seems to follow that if the court overturned it, the GOP nominee would have an advantage.

I hope and pray that ObamaCare is found unconstitutional in the Supreme Court, or at minimum a religious conscious excemption that is put in, but if that does not happen** it needs to be repealed by a new president in 2013.** But Congress needs to hear Catholics respond in their disagreement with the lack of conscious protection, especially Democrats who make up the majority of the Senate.
That is one of the deep concerns about the GOP candidates - that neither of the two front runners has stated categorically that he will repeal Obamacare. Romney in particular because his “Romneycare” was supposedly the model for Obamacare in the first place. Gingrich also doesn’t have as many objections to big government - it just has to be his side’s turn to run things.

Rick Perry vowed to tear down Obamacare, but it was more important to the media that he made a small mistake in a debate that wasn’t even critical, so he is out of the race.

I am not sure Santorum has said he would repeal it, and he won’t win the nomination anyway.

😦

:clapping: For the Priest!
Yes, I was very pleased.

We had to attend the other (liberal) parish last weekend b/c of selling raffle tickets, and the pastor was ill, so the substitute priest said NOTHING about it being the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Not. One. Word. Not that the pastor would have done an entire homily on it, but he might have mentioned it in passing at least.

I wish I could have heard what last night’s priest said last Sunday.

I’m sure most are waiting to see what counter-arguments their party is going to feed them. I can see some of that already in some of the publications about Plan B.

Make no mistake about it, the Dem party apologists will come in here loaded for bear when the party deems it the right time. And they’ll come in here in big numbers like they did in 2008, with many, many bogus arguments and incorrect “facts” in order to overwhelm with sheer volume. They’ll do it in order to persuade the “lurkers” that Obama is something he isn’t.

And that will be on CAF where most posters are faithful to the Magesterium. Imagine what it will be like in other places. Remember, they’ll have a billion dollars in campaign money behind them.

it’s not going to be pretty, and that’s for sure.

There is also the problem that Justice Kagan was a key advisor to the Obama administration when this terrible anti-subsiarity legislation was crafted. I get lots of email from conservative groups saying that she should recuse herself from this case because of this and because she lied about it during her confirmation hearing. If you think I am right-wing, you should meet some of my friends.😃

On the other hand, Justice Kagan has shown some indepenence in recent weeks, twice joining in unamimous opinions against the arguments of the Obama administration. One case was about the ministerial exception, and the other about illegal search.

Because the life issue is secondary to these folks. Social justice is number one.
But abortion is the number one social justice issue. How can their be any justice for any people when the unborn are not protected?

The unborn are not “people” as far as they are concerned. The Occupy movement, like the abortion movement, is very self-centered. Social Justice, as far as I am concerned, is just code for “I want MY share of free stuff”.
