I guess it is a fun waste of time to author amendments which will never pass. There is absolutely no risk to them. It is merely a statement of position, which is fine. But why put it out there in a way that is futile? There is no chance of such a constitutional amendment being ratified.

Similarly, why does the House of Reps waste everyone’s time “repealing” the Affordable Healthcare Act, when they know that the Senate will not take the matter up And if by some fluke of odd circumstances, the Senate did take the matter up and pass the bill, then the President would veto it. How many times has the House done this now, 39 times? Maybe more by the time I type this.

I am all for stating positions. But please don’t waste my time, or engage in futile posturing. How about trying something which can be accomplished? Wouldn’t that be refreshing?

Since the Repubs really can’t do anything about abortion, it’s ok to vote for a pro abortion Democrat.🤷

I do have insight, because my rational processes work. What I don’t have is an explanation in the words of those who coined the phrase…now why does that not surprise me?
“Women’s health advocate” Sandra Fluke apprarently shares your special insight skills.
Just last year, Paul Ryan joined Todd Akin and more than 200 other Republicans in co-sponsoring legislation that would have narrowed the definition of rape, limiting which victims of rape were “legitimate” enough to receive financial assistance for access to abortion care.
Mitt Romney famously says he would “get rid of” Planned Parenthood if he had the chance. And both Romney and Ryan pledge to go back to a system where insurance companies can discriminate against women and charge us more than men for the same health insurance.

Do not suggest that the House has repealed the Act 39 times. It has passed measures related to all or part of the bill that many times, most often, part of it. With 2000+ pages of stuff, there’s a lot to work with. Unfortunately, the Senate and President are not interested in compromise.

Good for Cardinal Dolan. I think he honestly wants both parties to hear his message and unfortunately the Democrats aren’t willing to listen. Honestly, if the Democrats are for all of this freedom and tolerance, let Cardinal Dolan give the blessing at your convention. Unfortunately the democrats probably think Dolan would convince Catholic Democrats to switch sides
Well, it does seem strange that he would offer to do the opening prayer for Barrack Obama’s nomination when over 40 lawsuits by Catholic Bishops are pending against the administration.

I don’t see why. The pending lawsuits shouldn’t matter, as President Obama accepted an invitation to be a keynote speaker at the Alfred E Smith Memorial Dinner.

Hope Cardinal Dolon does give a benediction at the DNC. Prayer is needed for the things being promoted at the convention

That may be your opinion. You are free to vote as you like.

My point is that they should be doing something productive.

Isn’t this the Cardinal who was paying off pedophile priests to leave the priesthood in Minnesota? People really care what this guy has to say, how is he so high up in the church, shouldn’t he be in jail or something?

Yes, that is a characteristic of our politics today. Republicans are reactionary and fail to compromise. The same is true of Democrats. When the other side fails to give in, then each accuses the other of being unreasonable.

I saw a graph recently of where ideas overlap between the two parties today, as compared to earlier times. In earlier times, there was some overlap, and hence moderate republicans and moderate democrats could accomplish something. Today, there is little or no overlap, so it is deadlock.

Indeed. It seems hypocritical to me that people should decry +Dolan’s participation with any Democrat when the Republicans are in just as much need of prayer and fraternal correction with regard to their policies against the poor and against the immigrants of this country. It is with extreme distaste that I vote for any politician these days, and in particular when I vote for the lesser evil, just because some weasel claims to be pro-life does not mean he is going to promote Catholic values across the board.

All faithful Catholics would do well to read and consider the opinions of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops regarding current political issues in our country. It is only with these opinions from the worthily ordained pastors of souls that we can correctly form our conscience with respect to Church teaching and exercise our civic duty as Catholics in the public square.

Very good link to read, especially the points regarding abortion, protecting marriage, and religious liberty.

Republicans are pro entitlement reform which will help the poor because it means the safety net will exist in the future and not go bankrupt. Republicans are pro legal immigrant but are against illegal immigration
