Andrew Sullivan is no friend of orthodox Catholic teaching.
Maybe…

Apparently, protocol is for the local bishop to give a benediction, and many on the left are screaming foul.
And we are supposed to give any credibility to someone who seems most angry at the fact that a **Catholic **Cardinal might actually defend the Catholic position on social issues?!?. His most important issues are criminalizing abortion, stripping gay couples of any civil legal protection, and making sure that non-Catholic employees of Catholic hospitals and schools be denied access to insured contraception. .
Ohh Pleeze,I see we are closing the separation between church and state.
Ohh, he offered to do the same for DNC,Does anyone actually believe this?
Jim
I hope viewers perceive it as an endorsement. Obama is anti-Catholic. period.Does anyone actually believe this?
Jim
Does anyone actually believe that the Cardinal would accept and invitation at the DNC convention with the lineup of speakers they have? It wouldn’t surprise me that if he did take the stage in Charlotte, the crown would throw rotten tomatoes at him.Does anyone actually believe this?
Jim
It is conservatives versus liberals. This is not an ideal situation, but it does reflect reality. There is a battle going on between Christians and secular humanists that underlies the political war over tax rates, medical care reform, open borders, energy resources, etc. For example, I cannot compromise my opposition to the HHS mandate, abortion, or gay marriage under any circumstances. With due consideration for other conservative issues I feel strongly about, this places me squarely in the Romney-Ryan camp. Timothy Cardinal Dolan must also remain faithful to the Magisterium and the Holy See whenever he enters the political realm.Except he offered the invitation to both parties. Honestly, people on these threads are too conservatives verse liberals it’s almost disheartening.
It seems we are constantly suspicious of our Church leaders, and think of them as corrupt politicians and the modern apostles of the faith.
Can we please have more faith in our cardinals.
Am I reading you correctly? Surely, you aren’t saying that conservative vs liberal equals Christian vs Secularist. One can certainly be a conservative secularist or a liberal Christian. It is conservatives versus liberals. This is not an ideal situation, but it does reflect reality. It is a non-issue. There’s no doubt that he is.Timothy Cardinal Dolan must also remain faithful to the Magisterium and the Holy See whenever he enters the political realm.
Oh, I think he would have done it. But there is no way the DNC could have prevented him from being booed, hooted at, disrupted, etc by the floor, and perhaps worse. That would have looked very bad for the Democrats, however satisfying it might have been to so many of them. That’s why they turned down his offer.Does anyone actually believe that the Cardinal would accept and invitation at the DNC convention with the lineup of speakers they have? This is likely a major reason why the DNC declined the offer.Oh, I think he would have done it. The bishops are non-partisanI don’t know what Dolan had in mind in making the offer, but quite possibly he knew the DNC would not risk the ugly scene and that their turning his offer down would, at least for many ordinary citizens, seem a self-defining act on Obama’s part which, in actuality, it is.
They are non-partisan when it comes to expression of preference for particular candidates, but they do invite Catholics to view candidates’ actions and policies through the Catholic lens. The DNC would not have wanted his presence or (name removed by moderator)ut, and that, in itself, highlights actions and policies just as juxtaposing positions in a diocesan newspaper does. This is likely a major reason why the DNC declined the offer.

He would have to be invited as he was with the Rep. Kinda tells a story no?IF Cardinal Dolan were to give a benediction @ the Dem. convention do you think the ratings would sky rocket or not? Or are most people ignorant/indifferent to this situation?
Timothy Cardinal Dolan will deliver the benediction at the Republican Party convention but, in a slight to Catholics, pro-abortion President Barack Obama rejected Cardinal Dolan’s similar offer of a prayer at the Democratic convention.
Dolan told Democrats he would be “grateful” to deliver a blessing in Charlotte, according to the New York Post, but Obama turned him down.
Dolan — considered the top Catholic official in the nation, as head of the Archdiocese of New York and president of the Conference of Catholic Bishops — tipped off Democrats a few weeks ago that he had agreed to deliver the prime-time benediction at the Republican convention in Tampa next week, Dolan’s spokesman Joseph Zwilling told The Post.

Bet they are doing this because Paul is liked among the youth and trying to go after that voteThe second day of the Republican convention will feature a video tribute to Ron Paul, the Romney campaign announced Friday.
The film is one of many accommodations for the former Republican presidential hopeful and his network of supporters at the convention. Paul’s son, freshman Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), will be speaking on Monday, and the Texas lawmaker himself is planning a day-long rally with supporters on the Sunday proceeding the convention.
“While they certainly disagree on many issues, they have always had, if you watch the debates, a lot of mutual respect between them. Congressman Paul’s people came to us and said they’d like to do a small tribute to him, and we said absolutely,” said Romney adviser Russ Schriefer during a conference call with reporters.
Paul spokesman Jesse Benton told The**Washington Post earlier this week that the campaign has identified 373 delegates and alternates that will be at the convention in support of Paul — a sizable chunk of the 2,286 delegates in attendance. The Republican National Committee and Romney campaign have been working with Paul’s supporters in recent weeks to put to bed anxieties that his supporters could attempt to disrupt the carefully scripted proceedings.

Or it could be they remember archbishop Chaput leading a rosary for the unbarred outside the 2008 democrat Convention. This is likely a major reason why the DNC declined the offer.
