Just arrogance and a Banana Republican-attitude. When Boehner was holding a roll call vote on shutting out grassroots and non-establishment GOP from being delegates there were clearly more NAY votes, but Boehner just decides to approve the minority vote.

No point in giving any money to the GOP now or ever, until they clean up their morally bankrupt dirty politics and decide to allow fiscal-, social-, paleo-, Christian-Conservatives; and even some of the Paulist Libertarians a voice in their ever-shrinking Republican Party.
Unfortunately, I tend to agree with you. :(👍

Uh huh…I’ve heard the same thing the last three elections. I suspect I will hear the exact same thing being said two and four years from now.
Well, with what they are pulling at the convention delegate-wise, the have (at the very least) become the party “Karl-Rove-is-our-guru-and-let-us-win-at-all-costs-and-forget-the-electoral-and-democratic-process.”😦

Wait until after this election. Whether Romney wins or not, the GOP is done. IF he wins, the disenfranchised will simply not be rallied again for a “this is the most important election of our time” speech, and if he looses, the grass roots will simply brand the GOP a bunch of loosers and simply drop their affiliation with the party.

Karl Rove and “win at all costs” modus operandi have killed the GOP. Enjoy it while it lasts, because after November, that’s the end of the road.
Indeed. 👍👍

I know for a fact most of the Tea Party is sick of Karl Rove. If he remains affiliated with the GOP as an advisor, most of them will sit out the next election. Let the GOP try to win anything without the Tea Party.

I am making a bold prediction that talking heads like Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, et al… will experience a significant dropoff in listening audience as well. People are tired of being told what to think.

This is the last election that the GOP can pull out the “if we don’t win this election, the country is doomed” card.

Come November, the GOP will be a shadow of its former self.
I see that but I don’t think the GOP will be a shadow of its former self it already is. The GOP today is starting to look like it did during the 70s. Except I don’t see the Gipper anywhere to save us.

Agreed, 2016 and 2020 will be the “most important election of our lifetime” and the “last of the GOP/Dem Party.”
As someone said (I would credit them if I could remember who) the last election was the
most important in our lifetime, and we blew it. Winning this November will help us to
get it back on track, however, it will be very difficult.
And, yes, it will be a different GOP, hopefully much more conservative!
I agree, but with the new rules and the cannibalistic way the GOP establishment is acting, I have a hard time seeing Conservatives backing the GOP for much longer.

The Catholic Church opposes all abortions!!!

CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
SECOND EDITION

PART THREE
LIFE IN CHRIST
SECTION TWO
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

CHAPTER TWO
“YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF”

ARTICLE 5
THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not kill.54

You have heard that it was said to the men of old, “You shall not kill: and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.” But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment.55

Abortion

2270 Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.72

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.73
My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth.74

2271 Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law:

You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish.75
God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.76

2272 Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. "A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae,"77 "by the very commission of the offense,"78 and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law.79 The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. Rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society.

2273 The inalienable right to life of every innocent human individual is a constitutive element of a civil society and its legislation:

"The inalienable rights of the person must be recognized and respected by civil society and the political authority. These human rights depend neither on single individuals nor on parents; nor do they represent a concession made by society and the state; they belong to human nature and are inherent in the person by virtue of the creative act from which the person took his origin. Among such fundamental rights one should mention in this regard every human being’s right to life and physical integrity from the moment of conception until death."80

"The moment a positive law deprives a category of human beings of the protection which civil legislation ought to accord them, the state is denying the equality of all before the law. When the state does not place its power at the service of the rights of each citizen, and in particular of the more vulnerable, the very foundations of a state based on law are undermined. . . . As a consequence of the respect and protection which must be ensured for the unborn child from the moment of conception, the law must provide appropriate penal sanctions for every deliberate violation of the child’s rights."81

2274 Since it must be treated from conception as a person, the embryo must be defended in its integrity, cared for, and healed, as far as possible, like any other human being.

Prenatal diagnosis is morally licit, "if it respects the life and integrity of the embryo and the human fetus and is directed toward its safe guarding or healing as an individual. . . . It is gravely opposed to the moral law when this is done with the thought of possibly inducing an abortion, depending upon the results: a diagnosis must not be the equivalent of a death sentence."82

2275 "One must hold as licit procedures carried out on the human embryo which respect the life and integrity of the embryo and do not involve disproportionate risks for it, but are directed toward its healing the improvement of its condition of health, or its individual survival."83

"It is immoral to produce human embryos intended for exploitation as disposable biological material."84

"Certain attempts to influence chromosomic or genetic inheritance are not therapeutic but are aimed at producing human beings selected according to sex or other predetermined qualities. Such manipulations are contrary to the personal dignity of the human being and his integrity and identity"85 which are unique and unrepeatable.
Thanks for posting this Scott. When I imagine an American politician say some of these things it is jarring. I guess I’ve come not to expect much from our politicians. Yet they are the ones in the arena, making our laws, taking heat for the right in some cases; so we must pray for them.

I am making a bold prediction that talking heads like Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, et al… will experience a significant dropoff in listening audience as well. People are tired of being told what to think.
As I said, I’ve heard these bold predictions before…especially after the 2008 election. The GOP was pronounced dead. They came back to life, took back the House and evened out the Senate in 2010. The talking heads will maintain their audiences and the GOP will still exist, if Obama gets elected.

As much as there are plenty of people who claim disgust with the party, there is nothing even close to poised to replace it. Constitution Party? Hardly. Libertarian Party? Nope. Neither will muster more than a minor protest vote. They have no traction.

What we can hope for is further Tea Party influence to move the GOP back to its conservative, smaller government roots. I believe that influence is already being felt.

Quick impressions: John Boehner’s speech was funny. He recalled his boyhood job as a clean up boy in the family bar, and the characters they would throw out of the bar.

It was a bit like hearing a series of " … walked into a bar" jokes aimed at the Democrats.

Rick Santorum looked great, and gave a great address – in fact – I think he got to give his prepared acceptance speech (minus the “Moment”) after all. 🙂

Conventions lack the drama they used to have. I remember conventions when the candidate had not been picked yet … and ballots were going to have to be cast to see who would win. And in 1980 Ronald Reagan had not chosen his VP running mate - and the rumors were that former President Ford was going to accept the spot. After two days of
drama GHW Bush was picked.

Tonight the biggest drama involves weather reports from New Orleans.

Wishful thinking on your part?

If the GOP wins and the economy turns around then I expect the GOP to become stronger and more popular. The historical precedent is 1984. What is the historical precedent for your analysis, Scott?

True Ishii, but at what cost?

Look at how bankrupt our society has become. I agree with Pat Buchanan, America’s problems, heck the West’s problems now are too big for Reagan…we need a Saint Paul!

Alfonso Rachel was also right today when he said the “GOP needs to run on something more than economics” seriously I know ‘it’s the economy stupid’ but let’s be frank…is that what the GOP is all about? Tax cutting a broken taxation system and jobs? Well what a way to run a party…nah we are not gonna run on Americanism like Reagan did in the 80s or Rugged Individualism of Coolidge, or Populism of TR, or Abolitionism like Lincoln…“just tax cuts and jobs and sit down and shut up America and enjoy your American Idol”

Which reminds me of what Gorbachev said when the SU collapsed (or so people thought) it collapsed because “Soviet Russia had no soul” well America is losing her soul…fast!.

The GOP came back to life because of the Tea Party. IF the Tea Party (thank you Ron Paul) didn’t spring up after the 2008 elections, the GOP would be scratching its head saying, “Where did everyone go?”

No party has ever cut entitlement spending. Ever. The GOP won’t either. They’ll talk it up, and then balk at the idea when the political realities hit them in the face.

Sure, but I guess they are all going to abandon the GOP, right?

I believe we are witnessing the last gasp of the Paulites.

I believe we are witnessing the last gasp of the Paulites.
Possibly. I heard someone on the radio say “Ron Paul in 2016!” 😛

He’ll be 80, but I’m sure that won’t stop the faithful. After he passes away (when he’s 120+, God willing), they’ll prop him up like Weekend at Bernie’s and rail against the establishment.

There’s always Rand Paul…oh wait, he’s supporting Romney and speaking at the convention…
