No it was rude to claim that the GOP does not appeal to minorities when my post listed several well known, self made, and successful minorities in the GOP. It was rude to claim that “silk stocking GOP” types appeal to me…particularly when I listed a group who are anything BUT. You have no idea either who they are, what they stand for or further what kind of politician appeals to me.

Interesting you would brag about being ignorant yet claim the complete opposite of what these GOP members have done and what kind of GOP they stand for.

And that would have been more accurate because? Using a completely incorrect characterization of people, about whom you brag you know nothing does not make your claims very credible.

And no where did I claim that the GOP has replaced the Democrat party in the eyes of minorities. I simply pointed out that your characterization of the GOP as a group of white shoe country club types is both inaccurate and ignorant. Many of the most prominent rising stars in the GOP are minorities or women. What sets them apart from the old style race baiting, demeaning and bigoted view of minorities with their hands out wanting goodies is that they were raised with strong traditional values, the demands by their parents that they earn their success and that they believe America IS the land of opportunity.

If you think that this is still the era of the Rockefellers you are sadly mistaken.

10 predictions for the RNC
  1. The media will talk about abortion much more than will any speaker.
  1. The media will bring up Todd Akin; no Republican will.
  1. The media will explain that Romney needs to be “humanized” and then pronounce what ever attempts are made to do so as “unsuccessful,” “unconvincing” or “contrived.”
  1. Republicans will use the word “recovery” more than the Democrats will at their convention. “Imaginary recovery,” “recovery summer” and ”non-recovery” will be popular.
  1. Ann Romney will be lovely; the media will compare her to her husband as a way of disparaging him.
  1. The letter “d” will be used freely to describe the president — debt, despair, deficit, decline, denial, divisive, delay, dereliction, distract, devastating, etc. The “r” words will be used to describe their own side — reform, revive, remake, redesign, remodel, reinvigorate, restore and reclaim.
  1. Ohio will get lots of attention (e.g. upfront seating for the delegation, many anecdotes from speakers). Delegations from deep-blue states will get Uecker seats at the back of the hall.
  1. The media will do everything possible to aid President Obama in making Romney an unacceptable choice. The man once with no convictions, they claimed, will be a “right-winger” and an “extremist” and have “radical” views that are “out of the mainstream.” This will be said about policy positions that a majority of Americans support (e.g., voter ID laws, limits on abortion, reduction in the size of government, and coal and oil development).
  1. A Romney grandchild or a Ryan child will steal a scene or get some affectionate laughter. (Even the media will concede that both Republicans are “good family men,” which is a way of saying “but not people we like in public office.”)
10.You’ll hear more about Obamacare at the RNC than at the DNC.

Thanks. I had a lot of trouble with CNN constantly cutting to the hurricane and even insinuating that the RNC should have been cancelled due to the "disaster.’

Personally, I think they are paying way to much attention to this hurricane because there hasn’t been all the “disaster hurricanes” predicted by the Anthropomorphic Global Climate Change fanatics.
At least CNN has some pretensions to objectivity in their coverage of the RNC. I watched MSNBC, and even though I’m a Democratic supporter of Obama, I had to laugh at their so in-your-face partisanship, including the one Republican reporter who was former adviser to the McCain campaign. Entertaining, however.

I suspect that all your “well known, self-made, and successful minorities” could all dine together in a restaurant with two tables pushed together.
It was rude to claim that “silk stocking GOP” types appeal to me…particularly when I listed a group who are anything BUT. You have no idea either who they are, what they stand for or further what kind of politician appeals to me.
I apologize for presuming what sort of politician appeals to you personally, but I don’t care who those pols are and what they stand for. I’d as soon vote Republican as you would campaign for Obama.
Interesting you would brag about being ignorant yet claim the complete opposite of what these GOP members have done and what kind of GOP they stand for.
There’s difference between being ignorant and not caring about the GOP or their “rising stars.” You, to be sure, may laud them to the skies and perhaps even persuade others to support them. But, I can guarantee that the disadvantaged won’t be on their bandwagons.
And that would have been more accurate because? Using a completely incorrect characterization of people, about whom you brag you know nothing does not make your claims very credible.
I know very well silk-stockinged, country-club type Republicans, the kind who used to be characterized as Rockefeller Republicans. I count many of them as friends.
And no where did I claim that the GOP has replaced the Democrat party in the eyes of minorities. I simply pointed out that your characterization of the GOP as a group of white shoe country club types is both inaccurate and ignorant.
Many Republicans are just that, not all.
Many of the most prominent rising stars in the GOP are minorities or women.
We’ll see how far they go in appealing to anyone but white GOP voters.
What sets them apart from the old style race baiting, demeaning and bigoted view of minorities with their hands out wanting goodies
The Democrats are NOT the ones using those terms in regard to minorities and never will. We hear those characterizations more from folks on your side. Who else?
If you think that this is still the era of the Rockefellers you are sadly mistaken.
Nor is it the era of the “up and coming minorities and women.” How many minorities and women are the GOP ticket for November?

Surely, you don’t claim a majority of Democrats on the Forum. 😃
Given the militant pro abortion stand of the Democrat party, the platform, their President, their former Speaker of the House, why would there be a majority of Democrats on a CATHOLIC forum?

Oh and per your previous question, I would be happy to hear of any Democrats who are running on traditional values, against socialized medicine, against abortion, and for prosperity and growth in our country.

Are there any?

Excellent set of strawmen set ablaze. You say I make claims I did not make and brag about remaining ignorant of anything that doesn’t comport with your personal opinions so you can continue to hold a set of completely erroneous stereotypes.

I would love to meet your white shoe Republican friends. Are they all named Harvey?

I do grant you have a half minority on your Presidential ticket. So let’s vote on the basis of skin color and do MLKJr proud.

Sure. That’s why the Republicans have always done better than the Democrats among the minorities. Is the Democratic Party even breathing any more? 🤷

Who are they?

You seem to have missed the fact that the poor and the disadvantaged have already taken their pick, and it wasn’t for the silk-stockinged GOP types you seem to admire.
:hmmm:

In ABC Webcast, Yahoo! News’s Chalian Says Romney’s ‘Happy to Have a Party When Black People Drown’
Yahoo! Washington bureau chief David Chalian made the offensive remark, ABC News’s Julie Townsend told NewsBusters in a phone conversation a few minutes ago.
During live coverage of the Republican National Convention here in Tampa, [original wording: an ABC News employee] Yahoo! News Washington bureau chief David Chalian provided the perfect example of the pervasive anti-Republican bias Mitt Romney faces in his bid to unseat President Barack Obama.
In video broadcast Monday night by ABC over the Internet, the person Chalian can be heard claiming that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife Ann are unconcerned about the fate of residents of the New Orleans area who are currently being hit by Hurricane Isaac.
“They aren’t concerned at all,” the person says on tape. “They are happy to have a party when black people drown.”
That line elicits laughter from several employees listening in on the joke.
From the audio, it appears the person Chalian was talking to an unknown individual named “John” who presumably was making additional jokes at the expense of Ann Romney although such jokes cannot be heard on the clip.
The anti-Romney joke was made while the person, presumably an ABC News producer, was on an active microphone, apparently unaware that his/her quips against the former Massachusetts governor were being recorded and broadcast live.
Unmentioned by the ABC News jokester is the fact that the Republican National Committee canceled the entirety of Monday’s program or that President Obama did not cancel any of his regularly scheduled campaign fund-raising parties that night.

I apologize again for presuming what sort of politician appeals to you personally.

As for my personal opinions - what are yours if not your personal opinions? Pick another poster - any one - what are their posts, but their personal opinions?

Completely erroneous stereotypes? You actually doubt that there are “country-club” Republicans?
I would love to meet your white shoe Republican friends. Are they all named Harvey?
No, they have names like yours and mine. A lot of them are members of the Greenwich, CT Country Club. If I could persuade a friend to invite you there when I’m in NYC, I would. I certainly haven’t the wherewithall to afford to be a member myself.
I do grant you have a half minority on your Presidential ticket. So let’s vote on the basis of skin color and do MLKJr proud.
I was of the impression that the GOP Presidential ticket was lily-white. Sorry if I was wrong.

Let me guess, you are a fan of Michael Moore.

The following is taken from an interview @ CNN w/ Artur Davis:

CNN’s Gloria Borger challenged former congressman Artur Davis’ “incredible 180-degree shift” from the Democratic Party to GOP convention speaker, but the GOP’s new addition had an answer ready and waiting on Tuesday night.

** “Well, Gloria, I’ll be honest with you, the easy thing would have been for me to frankly to do what you guys are doing and to be a pundit.** The easy thing for me, and no offense for what you do, but the easy thing would be to do a ‘plague on both your houses’,” Davis retorted.

No, and I have neither read his book nor seen his movie.

CS Lewis is who appeals to me. Read A Grief Observed and see if you can keep a dry eye.

I was responding to a simple remark by ByzCathCantor, and answered it simply.
Oh and per your previous question, I would be happy to hear of any Democrats who are running on traditional values, against socialized medicine, against abortion, and for prosperity and growth in our country.
  1. Whose traditional values??
  2. What Democrat is NOT for prosperity and growth in our country?
  3. Obamacare may well be the wrong policy for our country, but what is wrong with the right sort of universal health care, “socialized medicine” in your book?
  4. On the state level, my own being an example, the Democratic candidates are as anti-abortion as those of the GOP.
Your GOP slip is showing. 😊
