As Santorum’s opinions he presented this past week-end get out to the average voter instead of the political junkies, his popularity will dwindle.

There are other issues that won’t sit well with voters as they catch up.

Jim
This is an amendment to your earlier prediction that he would fail miserably in MI because of his JFK comments? He did fail, but there is no indication that his JFK comment caused anything more than a blip on the radar screen. It’s already old news.

I don’t think we can fairly say that he failed “miserably” either.

It’s my understanfing of market projection.

By voters, I’m using a general term, and we’ll see who laughs last after this weeks primaries, as Santorum gets crushed as a direct result of his performance yesterday on national tv.

Actually, there is some that say Santorum’s JFK comment and anti-college statement, mobilized the Obama supporters in Michigan to see him as an easy win for Obama and got them out to vote on that basis.

Fact is, the higher numbers Santorum got are attributed to pro-Obama people voting for him.

Sorry if this upsets you.

can registered Dems vote in the Primary or independents vote in the primary?

Yes. I asked this question last evening. They allow cross-over voting.

In my state, I can vote in the Republican or Democratic primaries, despite being undeclared.

It use to be, taking a ballot of either democrat or republican made you a member of that party. After casting my ballot, I would have to fill out a card to return my status to undeclared.

They change the rules and no I remain undeclared unless I go down to the town hall and declare myself.

**ALERT: Mitt Romney tells ONN he would not vote for senate bill which would allow employers to deny coverage for birth control.

twitter.com/#!/JimHeathONN/status/174960491238662144**

I hope he misunderstood the question because he has opposed the HHS mandate forcing religious employers to pay for contraception they morally oppose.

Or am I just confused about the tweet? Is Mitt Romney talking about his time as governor?

Unfortunatey it’s not a news source and you have to register with Twitter to get the story

False Alert!

**Mitt Romney Supports Blunt Amdt to Overturn Obama Mandate **
A reporter tried to trip up Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney today with a question that falsely described the Blunt Amendment that pro-life groups are pushing for in the Senate tomorrow to stop Obama’s HHS mandate.
After conservative reporters called Heath and the Washington Post on the carpet, Romney Spokesperson Andrea Saul released a statement to reporters confirming Blunt’s amendment has the strong support of the Republican presidential hopeful.
“Regarding the Blunt bill, the way the question was asked was confusing. Governor Romney supports the Blunt Bill because he believes in a conscience exemption in health care for religious institutions and people of faith,” she said in a statement.

It doesn’t upset me. It makes me chuckle. What you are now saying is that his JFK and “anti-college” got liberals to vote for him. That’s the opposite effect of what you claimed would happen (i.e. people would vote against him). He lost the vote despite those efforts, but I see no indication that he lost support due to his comments. Do you have any, or are you ever going to abandon your silliness on this matter? 😛

Regardless, I’m happy he lost. I’m not a fan. I support Romney.

so your saying that santorum is only doing well because dems vote for him so obama can win?

I don’t believe they could turn up the numbers to make this happen, and santorum wouldn’t be doing so well in national polls and some state polls if this was the case.

I’m not the only one who believes Santorum hurt his campaign with his remarks this week-end. Even he regrets it…

Much was made of Santorum’s last-ditch effort to mobilize Democrats to vote in the primary. Exit polls show that 9% of the electorate identified as Democrats, compared with 7% in the 2008 GOP primary. Democratic voters favored Santorum 53% to Romney’s 18%, though the support may be misleading – many Democratic voters who were interviewed said they intended to vote for Obama in November, and cast ballots for Santorum because they thought he would be the weaker opponent in the general election.

So we saw a 2% change in the number of Democrats crossing over from 2008. I wouldn’t say it was significant.

Both Santorum and Romney made gaffs in the last few days. I don’t think either candidate was hurt that much by them. Each have their base of voters. IMHO, neither have been able to reach very far beyond their base.

I don’t think anyone denies that Rick Santorum has a strong following…particularly of late. He clearly got momentum from the three wins and was benefitting from Newt’s latest implosion.

Now Romney is my guy and I have zero concern he will suddenly turn pro abortion or foist Romneycare on the country. I find the constant harping on these issues rather tiresome since they are simply speculative. I am very Conservative but I’m also a pragmatist and I want a problem solver, not a debator or an idealogue.

That being said, I think that there is clearly a more conservative/Tea Party element in our party that is not happy with Romney and have jumped ship more often than a Norway Rat as their various candidates imploded. Since Newt and Santorum were more attractive to this element of the party, they were effectively splitting the vote. But Newt’s implosion had the TP/Conservatives rushing to Santorum, particularly as Newt didn’t even TRY to compete in Michigan. Add to that the Democrat mischief and Santorum IMO did much better in Michigan than he might have without all of the stars lining up for him.

I don’t think he will have another surge, although I understand the Santorum campaign is hoping to try the Democrat “Hilarity” concept again. As Hugh Hewitt wrote, the campaign is OVER, it’s just not finished.

The Catholic vote went rather handily for Romney in Michigan.

Why do you think Catholics abadonned Santorum?
