Environmentalism gone wild. I think that environmentalists would feel a lot better if they went to confession and lost some of that guilt. Was man made for the earth, or earth for man? Of course we are called to be good stewards. You know, I recall that the Lord seems to use plenty of fires. He seems to allow plenty of volcanoes to erupt. California wildfires? It seems that forest fires serve a purpose to renew growth in the forests - a natural recycling.

Why did I think based on the title of this thread, it was something about sexual behavior taking place around the campfire? Don’t answer that.

With regard to campfires, just be careful and have fun. NOT an issue.

By the time the 4th rolls around there will be articles sand posts regarding studies decrying the dangers of grilling and barbecuing.

Washington estimates that fine-particle pollution, which again is 51 percent wood smoke, causes 1,100 deaths per year in that state alone . The health problems it c
Here is the problem with this:
  1. how old are the 1100 people? Are we talking about kids or are we talking about elderly? How old is the average person who dies from this?
  2. the biggest thing I see is the $190 million. Washington is a Euthanasia State. They value human life in terms of money only. They claim that 1100 people die each year due to woodsmoke… well how many die due to drug abuse (which a lot of them want to make legal?). How many die in car accidents? How many from heart disease?
The problem I see here is that I don’t believe they really want to save lives. I think they want to save $190 million.

If they really wanted to save lives, they wouldn’t allow abortion and euthanasia.

What is with that? It seems to happen EVERY holiday on social media - someone comes around to demean it, tell us how it’s a reminder of oppression and we shouldn’t celebrate it, etc.

Will our culture ever shake off its Puritanical shackles?

#1 Don’t be an idiot with fire.

#2 See rule #1

The bad thing about idiots and fire is that it can cause problems for other people depending on what is burned and how it is burned. Take an RV, add a meth lab explosion, and… well… it’s all over but the screaming and the sound/smell of flesh burning … assuming that the fire happens on an non-flammable surface. Take an apartment in a complex, add a butane hash oil explosion, and well… then you have a real mess that goes beyond the slowly fading sound of screaming from inside the apartment. Same problems arise when people try to re-enact Joan of Arc with bonfires; unlike Ball Park franks, people don’t necessarily plump when you cook 'em. It’s not a fire problem, it’s an idiot with fire problem.

Seriously, everything that each individual human does on this planet leaves some sort of mark behind. As long as you treat fire with respect and safety, it shouldn’t be more dangerous than many other things people do. However, if you play stupid games with it, you can expect to win stupid prizes.

People need to stop naval gazing.

Slowly, because of stuff like “that”, we’re regressing back towards tribal paganism.

I’m going to be sick.

Another fire in the firepit tonight. Great weather for smores for the kids!

The afterwards we took hot showers in our air conditioned house!

God is Good and we are blessed!

Technically, that wasn’t a fine. It was a invoice for the actual costs of fighting the fire. But I agree with your point. At that level, the number is essentially meaningless for almost everyone on the planet as the chance of ever repaying even a fraction of that amount is exactly zero, unless we were to enslave the guy’s kids and grandkids for multiple generations. And to actually go through the trouble of slapping an additional .5Million fine on top of that, as the article stated, is just legal stupidity.
