Memory eternal.

He was a true servant of Christ, and led his people through dark times.
 
Sad that this great and courageous man died. Copts need him now more than ever.
 
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Be mindful, O Lord, of Pope Shenouda III, and all who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection unto eternal life. Shelter them in a place of brightness, a place of verdure, a place of repose, whence all sickness, sorrow, and sighing have fled away, and where the sight of Your countenance rejoices all Your saints from all ages. Grant them Your kingdom and a portion in Your ineffable and eternal blessings, and the enjoyment of Your unending life. For You are the Resurrection and the Life and the Repose of Your departed servants, O Christ, and to You we ascribe glory, together with Your Father, who is from everlasting, and Your all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

I was fortunate enough to see him once. We have neighbors who are Copts, and, when +Shenouda came to visit the parish, we were invited to attend the Divine Liturgy.

We were well in the back of Church, so we didn’t see too much, we he did process by us 🙂

He was one of the people who indirectly drew me back to my ancestral Christianity, even if I eventually left for Chalcedonian orthodoxy. Patriarch Shenouda caught much flack for opposing the Muslim Brotherhood takeover of Egypt during the “Arab Spring”, and, after all, it appears he was justified now that the “Arab Winter” has come, with the murder of my people continuing more than ever.

This man Shenouda III is in schism like Society of Saint Pius X. Shenouda III leads a Monophysite cult that tries to challenge the true Egyptian Church, the Coptic Catholic Church. Under Shenouda’s papacy, millions of Catholic Copts were persecuted for their faith.
