The OP title reminds me of the drunks I’d sometimes pick up as a cabbie. They’d collapse in the back seat and say, “I gotta admit, I’m pretty drunk”. To which I’d reply, “You sure as shootin’ can’t deny it”.

Glad Romney is standing by his message
As I point out, I recognize that among those that pay no tax – approximately 47% of Americans – I’m not likely to be highly successful with a message of lowering taxes. That’s not as attractive to those who don’t pay income taxes than it is to those who do.
“And likewise, those who are reliant on government are not as attracted to my message of slimming down the size of government.
“And so I’d then focus on those individuals who I believe are most likely to be able to be pulled into my camp and help me win the 51% or 50.1% that I need to become the next President.
“This is, of course, something I’d talk about a good deal in rallies and speeches and so forth, which is the President and I have very different approaches to the future of America and what it takes to ignite our economy and put people back to work.
“The President believes in what I’ve described as a ‘government-centered society’, where government plays a larger and larger role, provides for more and more of the needs of individuals.
“And I happen to believe, instead in a free enterprise, free individual society, where people pursuing their dreams are able to employ one another, build enterprises, build the strongest economy in the world. I happen to believe that my approach is the approach that will put 23 million people back to work again.
“We’ve watched the result of the President’s approach over the last 3.5, 4 years, and his government-centric – larger and larger government approach has meant that we have 15 million more people on food stamps, 23 million more people out of work or stopped looking for work or under-employed. We have had 43 straight months with unemployment above 8%.
“And my view is the right approach for our nation is not to adopt a government-centered approach but instead a free, free people, free enterprise, free market, consumer-driven approach. And that will build the strongest economy for ourselves and for the coming generations.”

Obama supports killing babies half out of the womb as long as they seem dead and supports muslims over Christians. For instance the HHS Mandate compared to how he treats muslims (read Obama and Islam by Robert Spencer and how he was a muslim in indonesia because he was in classes for muslims only not the classes for Christians and Buddhists and Hindus. And his stepdad and sister were muslim and he was not?)

Amazing how much less sensational it sounds when it’s read in context. Anything to make a conservative look like a monster. I’m reminded of the Paul Ryan "rape/conception"debacle; perhaps the most dazzling example of distorting the context in recent memory.

My mom and her sisters – and a lot of others just like them – are part of the 47% Mitt was talking about behind closed doors. I’m going to go out a limb here and predict that they are not going to be favorably impressed.

34.8 million paid no income taxes in 1984. 151.7 million Americans paid no income tax in 2009. What has happened during that time?
You are right in that elderly and students take up a proportion of those that do not pay federal income taxes. Romney’s math was off, he should of taken those people out of his statistic. I do not think when anybody criticises those who are not paying federal income taxes are thinking of those that who are not of working age, they are thinking of those who do not want to pay federal income taxes, who like being goverment dependent, and other people who want to pay tax and find work but can not

You are right - the president’s supporters. People that would vote for him regardless. Doubt this will have a major impact with independents who will look at variety of issues before deciding who to vote for

Do you believe this comment from Romney will boost democrats going to the polls who would of not gone already? I can not see how this comment from Romney is going to increase substantially anybody who would vote for Obama who was not going too anyway
Romney is trying to reach out to middle class voters who are interested in the message of lower taxes etc. It is unlikely those who do not pay taxes are going to be interested in that message. That was his point
