(The part that I have a problem with is the part I bolded. Im not into stereotyping and that is how it came off to me)

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what,” “There are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government,** who believe that they are victims,** who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.”

I also have a problem with the part about being entitled to health care, food, housing…If I’m not mistaken those are universally (that includes the RCC) accepted as basic human needs to which all human beings ARE entitled.
 
Gimme a break…he spoke the truth.All the Dems feigning outrage,know this as well! I just love the way the media is all over this,so predictable,however,Obama ,once again gets a pass on his abysmal handling of the Embassy attacks,oh,wait,I forgot. It’s not his fault,it was some random video that practically no one saw…anything to distract from the continual missteps of the empty suit occupying the White House,:eek::mad:

There certainly are part of our society that are indeed vulnerable. But that doesnt mean they are victims or think they are victims or act like they are victims.

I’m always leary with big bold generalized statements about people and their personal circumstances, Dem or GOP

He’s playing to a crowd, and he’s doing it very well. The question is, is that crowd still big enough to elect him. You don’t say…How do they buy the Escalades, steak, lobster, TVs? I don’t think Romney would really frown on any ‘poor’ person who could do that. You’d think he’s applaud them for being ‘successful’ and stimulating the economy. 🤷 I guess the real pertinent question is how can a person actually believe that somebody who owns an Escalade would actually value a meagre welfare check that couldn’t even buy a replacement rim?

You are taking his comment out of context by removing the phrase directly prior:

“…who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.”

I agree. It is true that he has written off almost half the electorate…the reasons he gives are not convincing to me, but I’m pretty sure that percentage of voters have written him off too. That much ‘truth’ is rather obvious.

I got the context just right. A government does have the responsibility to ensure that the basic human needs of its citizens are being met. Basic civics, not to mention, morality.
 
From wherever she is, I’m sure Ayn Rand is giving Mitt the ol’ thumbs-up right now.

I know what it’s like, due to personal circumstances, what it’s like to be vulnerable, but I have never felt like a victim, so for me, that is the prism that his comments are filtered thru.

Of course not - I’m just challenging you. In another thread you were very concerned about the sin of detraction. Isn’t the posting of a secretly taped video of a person a form of detraction? The source wasn’t a journalist. This circumstance is much more a case of detraction than a documentary, but you don’t seem to have a problem with it.

Is it not detraction?

Was the source of the documentary Obama?
I thought it was interviews with other people? I was unware that Obama is featured in the documentary.

Is Romney speaking detraction? It’s not other people talking about him.

Perhaps I still dont fully understand what detraction is, to be honest.
