Good heavens! You didn’t listen to the Black Eyed Peas? Seriously though, just do what you’ve been doing, thinking for yourself, and you’ll be fine no matter whom you decide to vote for.

technically he’s of Mexican descent being his father was born in Mexico.Oh come on Rich and Meltzer. Sure Romney hasn’t said he was a poor black kid. But he wishes he were Mexican.

If you get earned income credit you are getting government welfare. According to several court cases (bankruptcy court) declared that because of a single word change in the EIC law it has now become welfare and prevents creditors from taking it and in Iowa it is no longer counted as part of your income on state taxes. To all here who keep using the phrase “on the federal dole:”
What do you mean by that phrase? On welfare? That’s how I always understood it. Do you know that just because someone makes a low enough income to not pay income tax, they are not automatically on welfare? I am not on welfare, no food stamps, no medicaid, no housing, no education grants. The only federal aid I have received is a low interest student loan. But my income is low so I don’t pay income tax.
You are incorrect about unemployment. This is paid for by your employer, not by you. Most people get much more out of Medicare and Social Security than they ever pay in.I am sick of Mr. Romney.
Sick of hearing him.
Sick of hearing about him.
Sick of seeing him.
I am part of Mr. Romney’s 53%.
I have worked hard all my life.
I have never received food stamps, but never begrudged helping those who needed them. I have never needed to use unemployment insurance, but never thought it “wrong” to use something that individuals pay into for just such emergencies. I have never used Medicare, but believe it is a good system I have paid for and that, with careful management, will be there when I need it. I have yet to take social security, but have paid into it my whole working life and expect and demand that it be there for me and for my children and grandchildren.
I am sick of Mr. Romney.
His vision of America is NOT mine.
And want him to go very far away very very soon.
Whatever it is, I file my taxes and get whatever they give me. I think of welfare as something I would have to go to an office and apply for. But then again, I don’t think of myself as a victim, like Mr. Romney seems to think I do.If you get earned income credit you are getting government welfare. CMatt quit perpetuating misinformation. Obama had a VERY privileged upbringing thanks to his grandmother. His mother left him for her to raise and she put him in a very upscale prep school. His mother was a “perpetual student” who may have used food stamps because she chose to continue with her advanced degree rather than go to work. It’s a poorly kept secret that many college students are able to get food stamps because their “income” is minimal even though they may get parental support, have grants, loans or other sources of money. One thing I’m sure of is he is aware of both his grandmother’s life experience as well as his mother’s experiences in needing food stamps and her struggles with an insurance company.
Yes but when he said “worry about those people” it was with reference to getting their VOTES. As a tactic to win elections, you put your time and money into people who will listen to your message. If you are a person who believes the government should solve all of your problems a) you aren’t going to vote for Romney and b) nothing Romney can say will convince you your position is wrong. That is just not how I read it at all. And I read the full quote. This is the part that sounds so bad to me:
“These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn’t connect. I completely get this. People who pay no taxes are not likely to care about tax cuts. I get it. I think he should have stopped here.]And he’ll be out there talking about tax cuts for the rich. I mean that’s what they sell every four years. And so my job is not to worry about those people—I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”
I don’t think many people know that it switched to welfare.Whatever it is, I file my taxes and get whatever they give me. I think of welfare as something I would have to go to an office and apply for. But then again, I don’t think of myself as a victim, like Mr. Romney seems to think I do.
I get that he is saying he doesn’t worry about their votes. I understand that. But he also said that he can’t convince them “to take personal responsibility and care for their lives.” That is what sounds so insulting.Yes but when he said “worry about those people” it was with reference to getting their VOTES. I agree he conflated several different groups. It’s not as if there are 40% of Americans paying no taxes, on government support and not willing to vote for Mitt Romney. There are people in all groups who will or won’t vote for him but he’s smart enough not to try to spend a lot of time and money beating a dead horse.
Imagine Obama looking a someone like me. If he told supporters “I can’t worry about right wing Conservatives, they will never vote for me. There is nothing I can say to convince them my big government ideas will work.” Should I assume he hopes I starve to death? No. He can’t worry about my vote or my financial support because he will NEVER NEVER NEVER get it.
Does this make sense?

Lisa, rarely do I or will I respond to your posts anymore but I’m not perpetuating anything other than Obama has an awareness of immediate family, in this case the experiences of his mother with food stamps and private insurance companies. Maybe Obama’s experience with his mother’s disability insurance gave him some real life insight into people who have pre existing health conditions who have been unable to get affordable adequate healthcare insurance before Obamacare. As I’ve heard him state, he has grown fond of the term Obamacare. Because he does.CMatt quit perpetuating misinformation.
As to his mother’s “struggle” you cannot get disability insurance AFTER being diagnosed with cancer. This apparently made her extremely mad and she railed against the evil insurance companies. This is like buying fire insurance after the house burns down but I digress…

To lighten the discussion a bit… Well anp, it looks like you don’t pay more tax than you are required to legally pay. So I (or Romney) pronounce you qualified to be POTUS! Or at least not disqualified on those grounds.Whatever it is, I file my taxes and get whatever they give me. I think of welfare as something I would have to go to an office and apply for. But then again, I don’t think of myself as a victim, like Mr. Romney seems to think I do.
Yes the people who believe big government IS the answer would be hard to convince that they should take responsibility. My understanding based on what you have said is that you are taking responsibility and do not want to be on the government’s various programs.I get that he is saying he doesn’t worry about their votes. I understand that. But he also said that he can’t convince them “to take personal responsibility and care for their lives.” That is what sounds so insulting.
CMatt your original post on the subject made it sound like Obama was this poor child who grew up poor and didn’t have opportunities. Further you referred to the insurance issue as this “deathbed struggle” as if she had been denied healthcare and thus died as a result. In fact Obama himself claimed she wasn’t able to get health insurance…among his many lies. Ironically it was his mother’s biographer who perhaps inadvertently told the truth in her book. She was then castigated by the Left for not allowing them to perpetuate this lie.Lisa, rarely do I or will I respond to your posts anymore but I’m not perpetuating anything other than Obama has an awareness of immediate family, in this case the experiences of his mother with food stamps and private insurance companies. I don’t think it’s right-wingers who are living in a bubble, and BTW, can you ID any “hard-liners” because this site is loaded with criticism and skepticism of the top of the R ticket. For you and all the other hard-right-wingers here who still cannot get out of their insulated bubble and face reality:
The right’s many attacks on Mitt Romney:

Obama’s bio was an exercise in creative writing with many composite characters. The more recent bio is probably more accurate but is still quite flattering. When asked questions about Obama’s detractors he claimed it was all “race and hatred…”

Wow. I’ve only been here at CAF for a couple of months but it sures seems to be a reflection of the rest of the country. If you favor Obama you are far left and if you favor Romney you are far right. There doesn’t seem to be anything inbetween. One of the problems with our two party system is that neither party satisfies all of our ‘leanings’ on issues. For example, I would consider myself fiscally responsible/conservative, socially libertarian (people need to choose correctly which is another issue… of education, evangelization and enlightenment… or intimidation (by friends and family) if that doesn’t work… half kidding) and enlightenment (there but for the Grace of God)… and personally morally consetrvative (a weak and flawed man trying to be Christian). Nether party fits the bill. Someone on another thread mentioned maybe we need a Catholic Party but I don’t think that would work because we’d need two of them. One left and one right. Boy if we could only join forces. Of you lefties would only use your powers for good instead of evil… ha ha…I don’t think it’s right-wingers who are living in a bubble, and BTW, can you ID any “hard-liners” because this site is loaded with criticism and skepticism of the top of the R ticket.
So… I think most people on here are aware of criticism of the right on Romney.
I’m also mindful of some things that Joe Biden and Hilary Clinton have said about Barack Hussein Obama:
nationalreview.com/articles/225378/just-words-joe-biden-would-forget/jim-geraghty
“I could stand up here and say, 'Let’s just get everybody together, let’s get unified, the sky will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing, and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect.” --mocking Barack Obama "politicalhumor.about.com/od/hillaryclinton/a/hillary-quotes.htm
You might make a good bet since I did say rarely. I try not to respond when I find someone’s posts too uncharitable.10 bucks says he’ll eventually respond to you again.
Also, I don’t like being told what to do and the democrats seem bent on telling us what we can and can’t do an awful lot (because they are so much smarter and need to make our decisions for the stupid people). Enough already. How pretentious and annoying. My mom always said you can’t legislate morality. I always liked that line. So why do we spend so much time and money legislating morality. Government needs to pave roads and protect borders, otherwise, the less they are involved the better. Oh sure there’s more but really needs to be scrutinized and cut back, way back.
Kudos to you for knowing the President of the United States middle name.I’m also mindful of some things that Joe Biden and Hilary Clinton have said about Barack Hussein Obama:
I see the conflict and understand it. And agree, but, since we are already legislating morality I will support my positions. I would rather we didn’t and didn’t feel the need to. But since we do… Plus, I take Church teachings seriously. I give the Church the benefit of the doubt. They have a lot of really smart people spending a lot of time and energy on these topics with the greatest resources and credibility, Oh yeah, and the Truth.I don’t like being told what to do either. I like to think for myself and use my own God given mind and reasoning. Which is one reason why I find your comment about legislating morality interesting since that is exactly what Catholics want to do on abortion and gay marriage. I always have to laugh when conservatives speak of a smaller government. As Rachel Maddow is fond of saying, you can make your case for a smaller budget. But don’t give us any of that small government talk.
