Thanks. In other words, you prefer a non-existant major power and/or no major power. Seems reasonable. šŸ˜› šŸ˜‰

Certainly, if men were angels we’d not need government would we? But again, perfection is not possible or as I heard but cannot attribute, "Perfection is the enemy of the good.’ As Robert has noted, given that there are nukes and other mass killing weapons in the world, wouldn’t it be better in the hands of a country like America than say Iran or even Pakistan? We do go off the rails now and then but I don’t know of any war crimes or atrocities that were brushed off once known. In fact I think America spends too much time in self abuse over the occasional and in comparison to others, rather minimal acts of cruelty. I know the ROE in Iraq and Afghanistan have resulted in many (IMO) unnecessary deaths as we go overboard not to kill or wound the innocent. I think we have much to be proud of and little to apologize for in our overseas actions.

There were Islamic terrorist training camps set up in Afghanistan which resulted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

What concerns you about that?

Better question: when will Muslims backlash against their own radicals if they truly want to be accepted, and be considered part of Western civilization?

I can hardly believe you would ask such a question. Do you understand what Shariah law is in comparison to Western laws?

Well, it’s only the 2nd time I have posted it. Once on the back fence where you couldn’t resist chiming in on the thread, and here.

But, since this is sensitive to you, I will reveal the sites I frequent regarding the daily Islamic nonsense that continues to happen outside the MSM:

For real ā€œenjoymentā€, Jharek, you might want to consider the palwatch.org link.

Seriously, I’d be curious what your assessment of the site is.

Bzzt: Wrong

One side demonizes the other and you know who that is, don’t you?

ROFL, at comments from UK person, lecturing us on historical atrocities.
  • 1 million plus die in Ireland famine
  • 12-29 million Indians starve while British viceroy, Lord Lytton exports record levels of wheat. Ever hear of the ā€œAnti-Charitable Contributions Act of 1877ā€?
  • Near end of 2nd Boer Wars the British invent Concentration Camps, where over 34,000 die from starvation and disease
  • Kenya in the 50’s after Mau Mau revolt. Of 1.3 million prisoners more than 100,000 are killed or die from disease and starvation: "Prisoners were questioned with the help of ā€œslicing off ears, boring holes in eardrums, flogging until death, pouring paraffin over suspects who were then set alight, and burning eardrums with lit cigarettesā€. British soldiers used a ā€œmetal castrating instrumentā€ to cut off testicles and fingers. ā€œBy the time I cut his balls off,ā€ one settler boasted, ā€œhe had no ears, and his eyeball, the right one, I think, was hanging out of its socket.ā€ The soldiers were told they could shoot anyone they liked ā€œprovided they were blackā€.
Mind you, this is not a defense for the sins of the US, just get that beam out of your eye before being so holy.

at least America was good enought for the Irish to escape to instead of living under the oppresive rules set forth by Britain in the 19th century. how many Irish left Ireland to begin a new life in America do you think?

I think what he really means is a dangerous world demands a powerful military to protect it’s multi national corporations. The 21st century will be the American Century ? Wonder what that means, that the rest of the world will embrace abortion, homosexual marriage, increased spying on it’s citizens, government mandating what it’s churches can do in private institutions, and the final destruction of Christian communities in the Middle East ?

Yes, indeed.

A powerful military as envisioned by Romney not only entails a massive public sector (something otherwise abhorred and scorned as the ā€œnanny stateā€ by ā€œsmall governmentā€ conservatives), but is counter to any understanding put forward by the founders. Even Alexander Hamilton, the most prominent advocate of a powerful federal executive among them, would shrink from what we have today: a military with virtually unlimited world scope; a military that thinks the world is its oyster; a military for which no area of the world is too remote.

There is no interest on anyone’s part in expanding the United States, as far as I know. 🤷

yes, sadly they did have to endure much prejudice and bigotry not only because they were Irish, but also because many were Catholic. my father’s side of the family fled Ireland in the 1800’s to come to America. the Irish have contributed a lot to America.

And you base this on??? Let’s see Romney says we need a strong military. Somehow that translates to ā€œmassive public sectorā€ when you can look at the budget and note that defense is minor in comparison to our bloated social industrial complex.

Tell me what evidence you have that the military under Romney would be characterized by expanding our presence in remote areas of the world (where presumably we have few if any interest). There are many troubled places in the world. So far we’ve all resisted the temptation to participate in their various problems…and most in fact date way back to Bush or even Clinton…come to think of it Somalia was a problem for Reagan. For some reason our military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq have been an indication we are looking for more places to invade…although it’s been ten years plus and so far nothing has happened. But hey, it’s always fun to speculate if it provides an opportunity to rehash the Iraq War, beat up on former President Bush or claim the Iraq war was for the benefit of Haliburton.

The defense budget has been cut and if sequestration takes place will be cut even more. So far no one seems to have an interest in any further foreign adventures…other than drones. Romney is not a hawk based on what I know about him and I’ve been supporting him since 08. I just don’t know how you make such amazing assumptions about him with no evidence to back it up.

You seem to have a chip on your shoulder about the US,

FYI, a quick internet search reveals the following for size of Military
Total Military
9.5M - North Korea
8.6M - Republic of Korea
5.4M - Vietnam
4.8M - Inidia
4.5M - China
3.8M - Iran
2.9M - USA

Even if you just look af full time Active military, it’s China then US with India and North Korea not far behind.

Thanks for posting those numbers. The way some posters made it sound, I was starting to believe our forces outnumbered all the other forces in the world combined. šŸ˜›

yes, thank you for posting those numbers. very interesting. i wonder if our european allies have about the same size military that the U.S. does. i would be curious what the size of the military is in Russia also.

I’m not sure that the number of soldiers is even the issue here. I really don’t think that Romneys plan is to increase the size so much as to increase funding. Probably for equipment and missiles and things like that.

Besides, the United States is huge… If we ever needed to draft, We could easily quadruple that number. So we really don’t need any more soldiers than what we have trained at once. All we need is the right amount of equipment that would be required if we did need to draft.

Really our Air Force and our special forces units are our greatest assets for now. Their number is less important than their capabilities.
