I like all of these classes and support him in all of these respects - even in farming (although I am not a small farmer). I also support him because he is pro-life. He’s really shaping up to be a good candidate - if only the American people will give the man a chance! I think he really deserves it!

Hi All,

I always resisted posting anything about War and the USA here in CAF. Now since I have been reading quite a bit about what people say about the next US Presidential elections I am compelled to just to bring out what i think about US Attitudes towards war. Forgive me if I am little too outspoken.

1-You guys talk about war so often as if it is a video game.
2-NONE OF YOU EVER EXPERIENCED WHAT HAPPENS IN A WAR.
3-WHAT YOU SEE IN CNN AND FOX NEWS ABOUT THE WAR THAT USA ENGAGE IN ARE CUSTOM MADE NEWS FOR AMERICAN PUBLIC.
4-America is no more in threat than Iran, India, Pakistan,Russia, France, China , England…in fact any other country.
5-War is pure business for USA , in fact that is the only business USA currently has.
6-You think war is some heroic action by USA.

Friends in USA, let me say this openly, you have never been attacked, violated or even challenged so much as to engage in destructive and deadly wars for decades. If you ever had faced a real war or faced the ruin, atrocities and lawlessness that happen during the war you will think 10000 times before even utter the word war.

Stop being so ignorant and violent. What can make you realize what a WAR IS ?

Let no one fool you by saying that your existence is depended on the destruction of rest of the world.

Really, God help America.

With prayers,
Joe
Thank you Joe.
There are people here in the US who wish to see this destructive decade long war come to an end. Ron Paul is the only peace candidate, and he is ignored and malingned in the news media.
It;s helpful to see how people from other countries view this.

That’s fine and good, but I don’t see substance, just air. At least I see substance in voting records for the two catholics. Plus, the many times I’ve seen him on TV, I thought he seemed a bit arrogant for my taste.
The only substance they have is the same old junk that GOP has been serving up for so long now they don’t know real substance when they see it.

I hope the candidates religious affiliations aren’t the only reason you think they are full of substance.

  1. I HAVE experienced the horrors of war, thank you. That is why I am so against America’s rampant interventionism. Until some of you have experience what it is like to pick up body parts from an exploded IED or mortar, or had to put someone who stepped on a mine or was hit by a grenade or AK47 back together, all this talk about how America needs to be World Police is just theoretical.

This is a message that the neocon politicians and fox news talking heads need to hear, because they haven’t been through what you have either.

It is impossible to concentrate on money and inflation and ignore foreign affairs, however. The two are intertwined. The fact that eco- nomic interventionism leads to a lowering of our standard of living is bad enough, but its breeding of excessive nationalism, protectionism, economic isolationism, militarism, and war should prompt us all to fear for the fate of freedom and even civilization itself, Mises’s pre- diction that the U.S. type of interventionism will lead to a German type of national socialism appears to be accurate. In Human Action Mises states:
An essential point in the social philosophy of interventionism is the existence of an inexhaustible fund which can be squeezed forever. The whole doctrine of interventionism collapses when this fountain is drained off. The Santa Claus principle liquidates itself.10
Evidence of his prediction is all around us today. We can only hope that we can turn things around before his prediction that it leads to a German-type fascism comes true.
The non-liberals who admit to the failure of their brand of inter- ventionism now plot schemes for “reindustrialization”—an euphe- mism for fascism (government “partnership” with business). Banking Regulation Number One and the Defense Production Act, already on the books, allow under emergency conditions for an economic despot to take charge almost immediately. In a panic, it will not take much to topple us over. Since Americans dislike outright government owner- ship we will have the deception of private ownership in combination with government’s authoritarian control over the economy.

I have heard him talk many times, and military force as a last resort is many times too late. Iran should NOT have a nuclear weapon under ANY circumstances. Then we have Kim Jung Un to deal with. Paul is very clear on a hands-off policy…We shoudn’t be over there…we’ve got no business interfering with other country’s efforts to do whatever. Although I like the idea of if we go to war we go in take them out and come home! I even applaud that, but sending our guys and gals in after the bad guys (from our POV) has already come up to speed is not smart tactics. If we wait until we are attacked or one of our allies, that means we have allowed the enemy to gain full strength and a tactical advantage. The world is too dangerous for this kind of thinking. I watch this guy every time he is on some show talking about his policies…he is scary…foreign policy speaking!
Jesus Christ had something to say about people who are peacemakers…blessed, I believe.

Hi Scott_Lafrance,

I agree that my post sounded like a blunt generalization. I did it with good intentions though. We all , at least in this part of the world, get more detailed reports and news, the real news about the war effected areas and the real stories , not made up stories. We can all but sit here and wonder how on earth the people of america can be easily fooled by their own administrations one after the other.

Also the effects of war is felt differently when you see it happening one’s own country and people than when we see it happening in real to other nations or people.

The reason why America talks so much about going to war is just because the wars are not fought in US soil. If anyone takes the war to US shores in the manner US does these days , Trust me, all the arguments and reasons that aggressors list out to come to US shore will look insufficient to all Americans without any exception.

How many people will be there in US who really vote for those who don’t talk about war is a mystery. Results of the presidential elections always showed that there isn’t such category in US.

Joe

Amen, I’ve never seen so many people actually worry about peace. War is like Abortion its been around so long you think its actually suppose to be this way. IMO thats the issue.

Where is military? Isn’t that his strongest demo comparatively.

Thank you Joe.

Hello,

Again I apologize for a generalizing post but I hope you understood what I meant. I mean no harm here. 🙂

Joe

**The posting by B]joeantony (#138) **is superb. I wish our whole nation could read it and be jolted into reality. I am a proud American. I deeply love my country. But we have been hoodwinked into this tragic combination of fear and superpatriotism that makes too many of us think we should be running the world.
Code:
**Today they are voting in Iowa. Every candidate but Ron Paul is alarming Americans, and perhaps the worst is Santorum, the most avid Catholic among those competing**. He talks as though we should bomb Iran as soon as possible. What wild nonsense! And I can't see for a moment how by initiating more violence, destruction and death we will be fulfilling the mandates given us by Christ. Or, consider Gingrich, who has announced that he would appoint Bolton as Secretary of State. Is there a more passionate supporter of war mentality than Bolton? I don't think so.
** Sadly, Ron Paul is wrong on so many other issues that it’s difficult to support him, either.** I have problems with his extreme laissez-faire libertarianism on such questions as assisting the poor and addictive drugs. His position seems to approach anarchism. Still, I salute his courage in standing up to the Israel Lobby and the neocons and brain-washed evangelicals who keep inciting terrorism by their ill-advised, paranoid defamation of Islam. True, there are crazy, battle-eager Muslims such as Al Qaeda, but there are too crazy Jews and Christians, also, and they all feed off one another. It’s time for America to take seriously its responsibility to vigorously employ diplomacy and stop the irresponsible ‘scare talk’. We already have missed a great opportunity to work toward reconciliation, but perhaps it is not too late.

** Obama has been disappointing in that he seems to go along with the war-like posture of our country.** I hope and pray that if he is reelected he will have the vision and courage to pursue peace aggressively. I believe he would like to do that but powerful (and rich) political forces within both parties keep us from moving in that direction. War makes big profits to further fill deep pockets. What do such greedy profiteers care if innocent people are slaughtered as a result! I am not happy about Obama but probably would feel compelled to vote for him if someone like Santorum or Gingrich is the GOP nominee. Or, possibly a third party if a good one emerges.
Code:
**Christ told us to be peacemakers.** Why are so many Christians so blind when it comes to this commandment? It's disheartening that the churches have been so wishy-washy when it comes to pushing for reconciliation, justice and peace.

**God bless people of every creed, color, country and culture**. Let us make religion a bridge and not a barrier.

“Wars are not fought on US soil.”
You are forgetting Pearl Harbor…Midway…Alaska…and New York City. You are also forgetting that two world wars which almost starved and ruined England …were not fought IN England. You simplify international relations with emotion and that doesn’t wash.

Just curious, how do you see “peace” being pursued aggressively? How exactly does one go about doing this - past examples would be nice.

Well, Joe, I can only speak for myself.

Been in five wars.

Directly dealt with and/or lived in many of those countries.

More than 100 of my associates were killed.

But, what are you saying? … that only veterans can speak about these issues?

All I can say before I get banned for lack of charity is this: in our generation, 9/11 changed everything.

How many thousands of Americans are buried in the fields of Normandy in France?

We don’t ask for gratitude … only for some acknowledgement and for a piece of real estate six feet long and three feet wide for those young men.

Maybe we should have just stayed home.

We could have cut a deal with Hitler and with Hirohito.

People in France and England would be speaking German and people in India would be speaking Japanese.

Or Russian.

Or Arabic.

Or Farsi.

An all volunteer army has fought the war in Iraq and Afghanistan with an American public and government that has called them everything from rapist and pillagers (John Kerry) to murderers (John Murtha). The current generation of service men and women put past generations to shame in their willingness to serve in adversity at home and abroad. Even during the “good wars” of WW1 and WW2 the bulk of the service men were drafted.

At one time Japan was so powerful and ruled over all China brutally and cruelly. They are now trapped in their limited quake prone islands but could never use their might or intelligence to discover and occupy Australia which is so near. God chose to reveal Australia and America to others. You must ponder over these historical truths. Also read and know of Japan’s crimes against humanity during and before WW-II.
And how was Japan “ejected” from China?
