Wellllll… Ros would probably be the first to point out that there are no comparisons between her and Christ! !" 😉
We are all called to imitate Christ…and Mother Miriam has obeyed the call. (Big time!)

I wish there were more examples of Jesus and Mary “having fun” in the bible. Christ did say that we are to become like innocent children and children have been known to play. When I think of “play” I think…fun! So, you will be following Christ when you have fun doing it!

I have emailed rosalind for more info on her new community. I have been searching for a community and though I have felt called to contemplative life,I am drawn to her order. We so much need strong witneses to the Catholic faith and those willing to be servants. You know where Rosalind stands regarding the faith and the Church. Unfortunately, you can’t say this for many communities. I am new to this forum.
Blessings to Rosalind and her community,
stars

Best wishes to you, stars! I will pray for your vocation and that you find the order that is just right for you. You are in the Lord’s hands!

Stars, best of luck with your search. Even if Rosiland may have filled the 12 positions for this year she plans to keep expanding every year. She will probably seriously consider qualified candidates if they show enough interest in volunteering to help out this summer at the convent. Nunsense (Annie) has all the inside information now that she is one of the chosen ones.

Here is an extract from Ros’ letter to potential candidates…

*Those who wish to pursue the possibility of a future with the new community, but, for any reason, are not in a position to enter at present – as well as those who may not be able to pursue entrance to the community even in the future – may wish to consider one of four options, each of which is in the process of being formulated: *

(1) A one-year program of spiritual formation (in individual or group format)
The program will consist of a study of the life of our Lord, using the new series, Reasons
for Our Hope – A Bible Study on the Gospel of Luke (9 months), guided reading through St. Francis de Sales’ Introduction to the Devout Life (3 months), a program of daily prayer, help toward spiritual growth and direction, and the encouragement of like-minded souls!

(2) Membership in the Third Order of the Daughters of Mary, Mother of Israel’s Hope
A program of prayer and spiritual growth to enable both individuals and families to grow in grace, in the love of God and neighbor, and to know and live God’s will for our lives.

(3) Membership as a Lay Associate of the Daughters of Mary, Mother of Israel’s Hope

*An opportunity for those who wish to be part of our support troops through prayer and through the myriad of talents and gifts which our Lord has showered upon His children. *

(4) Receipt of our brand new newsletter – yet in the making!
For those who wish simply to keep in touch and to watch our Lord at work in the
building of His new community of Sisters as they walk through the world, in full habit, as “messengers of hope to those who are longing for a sign of God’s mercy.”

If you would like to be included in one or more of the options listed above – or in a way I’ve not yet thought of! – please let me know. We will contact you just as soon as these auxiliary programs are in place.

One note here, to respond to a good number of you who have asked about a fully contemplative branch of the community. While we would love to have such a branch starting out, I have recognized two factors: first, that, of necessity, we must narrow our beginning to the heart of our charism, which is to “flood” the streets with holy habits as signs to God, reaching out to every soul who longs for Him. Second, I am confident that, since we are taking in women of all ages (who, upon entrance, can keep the pace of “walking the streets” twice daily for 1-½ hours at each “outing”), it will not be more than a few years before some of our Sisters will need to spend more time “off their feet!” and in prayer. At that time, a contemplative branch will form somewhat happily and naturally for our Lord’s aging street walkers!

Dear Annie, thank you so much for this welcome information.
I am extremely interested in the 3rd order and lay associate branches of Daughters of Mary - Mother of Israel’s Hope. I have been praying Ros would start something for lay people to have a part in this wonderful work.
Can you tell me if these will be open to overseas membership ?
I am Australian and can’t be there physically, but my heart is with Mother Miriam !
I am 55, married with 2 adult sons and a long time member of the Association of Hebrew Catholics.
I am limited financially but have an abundance of time to spend in prayer for Ros and your sisterhood. ( congratulations and much blessing to you all !) And yes - Praised be Jesus Christ ! Baruch haShem !

Trish - how wonderful that all the way to Oz you know about what Rosalind is trying to do! Although she is in early stages yet, it is apparent to me that the Holy Spirit is working through her to set the world on fire with love for Our Lord!

Your prayers are most welcome, and hopefully, in time, there will be opportunities for international members of a Third Order. I will pass your message on to Ros - I am sure it will please her very much.

Annie
PS Please note that although I already think of her as Mother Miriam, Rosalind has asked that I don’t refer to her as Mother in public until we are all in habit - as she put it to me…
“I am cautious, however, about using the titles “mother” and “sister”—in public—prior to our being in habits (come September!), lest we add to the witness of “sisters” in religious orders without habits.”

Hi Annie
I found out that Rosalind was starting her community through the conversations here at Catholic Answers and via the AHC yahoo group with her brother David. Then I saw her talk about it on the Journey Home . I am very blessed to be able to get EWTN via satellite and always enjoy her programs and teaching.
Her Iove for Our Lord is so evident and inspiring to me. I was drawn to watch her because of her jewish background but have come to love her for herself.
Although I do see her as a 'jewish mother" ( quoting her ) I fully understand her reasons for not using the title yet. She’s right.
Thank you very much for passing my message on to her - you are so kind !
God bless you…
Trish

😦
Not very nice…we should all be on “the same team”, right?
****“ In necessasariis, unitas; In dubiis, libertas; in omnibus, caritas.” ****🙂

(In things essential, unity; in doubtful, liberty; in all things, charity.)

I think you might be seeing a lack of charity where none is intended, simply a statement of preference.

This is an interesting topic, and perhaps the moderators want to move this thread, but this site does say many things well… edited for length)

A Nuns Habit
Peter and Paul Ministries

These are actual statements nuns have given for not wearing a habit and Peter and Paul Ministries responses:

Excuse Vatican II said we should take the habit off in favor of secular clothes.

Response Nowhere in the Council documents does it say that the priests and religious should dispense with religious habits, and it never said that habits should be the street clothes of the common man. Vatican II stated that habits are to be an outward sign of consecration. They need to be simple, modest, poor, becoming, and needed to be changed if they were unhealthy or not suited for today’s needs. Pope Paul VI and John Paul II both have told priests and religious that they must wear their religious habit, but many have chosen to ignore the Papacy and the Second Vatican Council.

“The religious habit, an outward mark of consecration to God, should be simple and modest, poor and at the same becoming. In addition it must meet the requirements of health and be suited to the circumstances of time and place and to the needs of the ministry involved. The habits of both men and women religious which do not conform to these norms must be changed.” Perfectae Caritatis17

Excuse The secular world and media has long portrayed nuns with their habits as uneducated stupid and dumb individuals. They drew pictures of them in ways that mocked them and made jokes at their expense.

Response Throughout history nuns have been educated, as a matter of fact the first female university president in history was a nun. Many orders of nuns have done nothing but educate Catholic youth and a Catholic education has always been seen as excellent even by the secular society.

Excuse People mocked, ridiculed and made fun of them when they where in there habits. Children would say, “hey, look at the big penguin walking down the street”.

Response Christ was ridiculed. John the baptist was ridiculed. The 12 apostles chosen by Christ were ridiculed.

Excuse It has been commonly observed that adults and especially children felt uncomfortable by the sisters in habit.

Response Do policemen or firemen take off their uniforms so people will feel more comfortable around them? Nuns are not to blend in. The habit is a symbol of their commitment to Christ. In their effort to blend in they have disappeared.

Excuse It is true that habits are an out word sign of religious consecration. But simply because one wears a habit does not make them holy. You can be holy inwardly in your heart without having to wear the habit.

Response Yes, one can be holy with out a habit. Can you imagine if the pope came out to speak to the people without his white cassock or the Notre Dame football team decided not to wear their gold helmets. People would throw a fit! This excuse is a cop out.

Excuse In fact a habit is something as simple as the common crucifix we sisters all wear over our secular cloths as well as the ring we all wear on our finger. This common crucifix and ring is our outward sign of religious consecration and community. It has become our new habit.

Response Prostitutes and rock stars wear crucifixes and religious rings. Does this mean they are part of a religious community?

Excuse Young women won’t want to join our community if we wear the habit.

Response Every order that has taken off the habit is dying because no young women want to join their order. As a matter of fact the orders that wear the habit are growing and thrive two examples are Mother Teresa Sisters of Charity and The Dominican Sister of Nashville.

Well, it was just that the quotation marks around the word sisters from the earlier post seemed to suggest that those who are not in habit are not really Sisters…if this was the intent, it was not very nice. 😦

The quotation marks really seemed to suggest that this was a “dig”, so to speak, but if I misread it, I offer my humblest apologies. :o

This comment from Rosalind was in response to my suggestion that I call her Mother Miriam. The quotes around the word sisters were, I am pretty sure, to indicate to me that we were not yet “sisters” ourselves, hence her request that we not address each other as sister or mother yet. There is no way that Ros would intentionally be “not very nice”. I am sensing a certain sensitivity to this issue however, so perhaps we should just let it drop? I certainly did not intend to cause any hurt with my post or to stir up a controversy. I was simply trying to explain why I do not yet call her Mother.

Drop it we shall. As I mentioned, my humblest apologies for any misunderstanding! 🙂

AND, I think it is very exciting for so many new religious congregations to be coming into being…I’ve long believed that the time is really ripe for new vocations, new foundations, and refoundations.

May God bless you and your new community and all Sisters who so tirelessly and joyfully give their lives in service to Jesus Christ and the Church! 👍

Friends? 😉

I love Ros too, and am very happy for her and all of you. I was taught by great Sisters/Nuns and I wanted to post something here since I know you are all are great women of prayer.
Two things please, for a woman named Maureen who is in a great
deal of pain on the sudden death of her teenaged daughter over a year ago. She very much loves our Lord but still as yet is grieving so much, prayers are needed especially for her husband and another daughter also. Thank you all so much.
The second is a link that I ask you all to click on and read about Luke, they are all in such need of prayer to hold them up right now, so much tradegy in one family in such a short time. Two babies lost.
This is what that link under LUKE says in part.(its about half way down the page)

Todd’s sister Nicol (she sang in Selah) had her second child on March 18th of this year. His name is Luke.
Last night (May 27th) around 9:00 central time, she went to check on him and he was not breathing. Paramedics were called but they were unable to resuscitate him.
Our nephew Gregory Luke Sponberg is now in heaven with Audrey, just 7 short weeks after we lost her.
Please keep them all in your prayers and thank you all so much.
I will keep all of your intensions in my prayers too. God bless you all. (Sorry for breaking into your thread but it is only because I know what great women of prayer you all are…you can keep my intensions in your prayers too, thanks!!)

I am glad you two gentle ladies discussed the topic of “to wear or not to wear a habit”. I would like to applaud you both for showing how to discuss a controversial topic and both come out smelling like roses. :nun1: :nun2: :heaven: Rosiland would be proud…but we all know she is way too humble to ever be “proud”.

Catholic Answers Live radio show

time: 3:00PM pacific 6:00 PM eastern

She may have some updates for us now that she has moved to St Louis.

Rosalind has already moved to St. Louis? I thought the move was to take place later this month. "So, anyone who has already received their packet and sent back their application, be patient, she will start reading through them all after we get to St Louis on the 19th.’

Rosalind was in St Louis last week for legal and business matters but is back in California now. She is doing catholic answers radio program from 3:00-4:00 p.m. today (one hour only, on the first and third Wednesdays of each month; 3:00-5:00 p.m. the first Wednesday; 4:00-5:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday).

She goes to Ohio on Friday for a conference and then will be back in California on Sunday. At this point in time, she is still scheduled to make the final move to St Louis on the 19th.

Please feel free to contact me for any questions

P.S. - Just a note here in case anyone is concerned that I am being too pushy  Honestly, I am not - Ros asked me if I wanted to take care of the applicants for her, and of course I said yes 👍 so when I offer to help, it is with her permission 🙂 Thanks be to God!
