Hey, I live in St. Louis and I’m trying to figure out what hotel even meets that criteria!!😃

Welcome to our city nunsense and all those joining you. I hope you find your stay here to be joyous and rewarding. I love it here and hope you do too.

Kris

PS - have you been warned about the humidity yet? There’s nothing quite like a hot St. Louis summer day - that’s what Ted Drewes frozen custard is for - make sure you get there!! It’s so good.
Hey, now I’m missing the ball games that I haven’t been to in 15 years! I’m not missing LaClede’s Landing, however…back in the day before I caught on to relativism. 😊

I want to apologize to all fans of
“Daughters of Mary, Mother of Israel’s Hope Fan Club”.

Our old stomping grounds will have to do…no new thread is allowed. In my heart this will still be a thread where we can cheer on the new community.

Today’s gospel, Matthew 9:9-13 really hit me today:

Jesus saw a man named Matthew and said, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him.

Does this sound like an example of being “called” and answering the “call”?

Then, it goes on to show Jesus sitting at table with the sinners and being criticized for associating with sinners.

Rosalind’s new community has been called to do exactly that…sit at table with sinners!
I bet Roz could give some incredible insight as to how amazing that was that they dropped everything to follow, too. I can’t remember all the details now but I did hear Scott Hahn talk about it from the Jewish historical and religious aspects of the time. That’s what I love about listening to a Jewish convert such as Roz and Brother Bob Fishman. Just like the curtain that tore when Jesus expired…the “curtain” was 8 feet thick. No wonder they were brought to their knees saying, this truly is the Christ ! 👍

I looked through the St. Louis Archdiocese web site, but I didn’t see anything. There was nothing in OSV or The Register, so I think it may still be some time before the order officially begins. I will keep my eyes open.

Here’s what’s troubling me personally…I’ve made an application to a contemplative order and I’m waiting for their answer. Now, I hear about this, and I can’t get it out of my head…And this order would be very different from the one I’ve applied to and felt drawn to. Oh, how I pray for a spiritual director!

Actually, not to quibble here, but Ros’ new community is made up of sinners (like me)! 🙂

St Louis Review Online had an article about Ros on June 6.
There’s a photo of her standing on the steps of the convent explaining the schedule to a group of young people in discernment.
She said she has only $700 to get the community up and running and needs help. My husband said he would go help her if we were over there. He’s not even Catholic ( yet;) ) .
The pastor of St George said he had prayed for some sisters who could work in the community performing the acts of the Apostles.
Annie - how are you at raising the dead and healing the lame these days ? !
I know, I know …people can be dead and lame in more ways than one !!
Wish we could be there to help get your new home ready.

Thanks Trish – I’ll have to check the article out closer when I have a chance.

Fans of Rosalind’s new community I have good news about this thread.
Our Moderator Patrick Eastin has so graciously offered to change the name of this thread to a more appropriate title. When I started this thread a few months ago I didn’t realize I was using wrong terminology, eg, “order”, and “nun”. I think now that we know the name of Rosalind’s community it would be more appropriate to identify the name of the community. Patrick said he would change the title as soon as we have come up with the new name. Would you like to be part of the naming? Should we just use the name of the new community or can you think of something better?

Trish, thank you so much for the article. Rosalind and I agree that the worst thing that can happen within a group is “gossip”. As a business owner, I have had to fire employees for that very reason.

My “vote” is to use the name of the new congregation as the title of the thread. 👍

Three cheers! We have a new title!

Now there is no more mystery what that “new order” of “nuns” for all ages is all about.

Thank you Sir Patrick!

I wish I could help out in St Louis. I would like my contribution to be a picture of The Innocence. Nunsense, do you think there would be a place in the convent for that picture? I will be visiting a Catholic book and gift shop next week. I’ll see if it is within my budget to have it sent. I think it would fit right in with Rosalind’s theme.

Yes, please! That is so sweet of you.
The address is …
Daughters of Mary, Mother of Israel’s Hope
4950 Heege Road
St Louis MO 63123

Ros will be in St Louis on 19th June but the address is ok to use now. One of the sisters will get there on the 20th and I should arrive around the 23rd (I am driving cross country from California, leaving after I drop Ros off at the airport on the 19th). The other two sisters are expected later in the month. We can’t wait until we are all together under the one roof, but the convent is still being renovated so it will be several weeks yet. I will try to get online to post from time to time for updates. Bless you and everyone here for all your prayers!
Annie

Postulant NUMBER FIVE has been accepted!! Tonight Ros accepted the fifth founding sister - and she is from Indiana!

Next week, as soon as the movers have come and taken everything away, Ros hopes to start going through the applications that have been received so far so a little patience is required from all who have applied.

The community has received tax deductible status so now donations can be accepted!

One prototype habit has been completed and Ros will pick it up tomorrow. We have also been offered an old habit from the Poor Clares of Roswell, to take apart and use as a partial pattern. Ros really likes their veil! And the Mother Abbess at Roswell has been wonderful.

For onetruechurch - I told Ros about the picture and she said if you would like to do that - it would be wonderful - she loves that painting.

Please everyone - keep praying - there is so much love and enthusiasm for what God is doing right now - and it is so beautiful.

It is so much more exciting to watch a new community start and grow than to listen to the “political election news!”. Thank you for letting us be a part of a history that we can be proud of. I am so proud of our sisters in Christ who are brave enough to follow Christ’s call. I can live vicariously through all your reports and also live actively with my prayers for your success.
A big congratulations to Number five! :nun1: :dancing:

The “innocence” picture will be arriving in five to seven working days. They couldn’t put the whole name on the address label so it will just say Daughers of Mary Convent. I hope Archbishop Burke will give it a good blessing when he blesses the convent.

Ok - if we go along those lines, we would have to be the Blue Lambs because the habit will be blue and Ros is going to be Mother Miriam of the Lamb of God - plus she loves all those Good Shepherd analogies. Here is a link she loves - it is of a lost lamb who finds Jesus, the Good Shepherd…

Nunsense, I have a question regarding the procedure that Ros has gone through to start this order. Most founders have to wait over 10 years while they are active before it is made a diocesan rite. I live 30 miles east of Springfield, Missouri, and have felt a strong call and there is a great need here in the rural area of the Ozarks…my priest is 79 with 5 parishes not to mention the fact that no one ever sees a nun. This area is good ground for planting seeds. do you see Ros expanding? If not, how is it possible to have a diocesan rite right here that starts with full approval as hers did? Thanks! Kathie

Rosalind… if you’re following this thread. I have a suggestion. Would it be possible… for you to proceed with the founding of the Order and maybe have certain parts of the process filmed… in documentary style? (Psst, EWTN… possibility for a new series?.. with Rosalind’s and the Bishop’s permission, of course).

This might be a real spring board for young (and not so young) women to actually see the process. To learn what it means to become a sister (or brother?). To know that serving the Lord can be a very human and possible endeavor, with His grace. That all of us, are called to be saints. I think there are a lot of people out there… to whom vocations might be a little bit scary… or at least, confusing.

Walking the “process” with you… might increase vocations. :o Just a thought. Praying for you.:gopray2:
MarieVeronica, this is such an excellent idea. I sure hope someone is recording the different stages of this development. If a documentary is not in the making I hope the “Story of Rosalind & her sisters” will be a Hollywood movie some day. But I really agree with MarieVeronica’s reasons for documenting the process. Rosalind is not camera shy and that helps.

I am sorry but I don’t really know all the legalities of starting a community. Perhaps you could contact your Bishop’s office for info on this?

As for Ros expanding, yes, she plans to do this in time. She hasn’t even started the community yet and already she is being beseiged with requests from all sides! We will just have to see what the good Lord has planned.

In post 212 I quoted the suggestion of Rosalind making a documentary about forming a community.

I noticed in the EWTN newsletter that I received today that there will be an inside look at a religious vocation taking shape in a European Catholic family.

“The Nun” will be airing August 23 at 8PM Eastern and August 24 at 2AM and August 28 at 1PM.

If I forget to remind us later in August please feel free do do so.

I am so excited to see all of this taking place and to read nunsense’s updates. I see a lot of mention about older vocations, and that is wonderful. However, I was wondering if any younger women have expressed interest thus far? Has anyone heard from any younger women considering a vocation to the Daughters of Mary?

How about Canada? Although qw have about 5 communities in full habit here from different orders in our diocese. We are blessed!

I love your name Daughter of Mary!🙂

I am unable to answer your question…probably Nunsense will have a better idea of any interest in younger women.

If I were a younger woman I would seriously consider joining a community that is starting off with five mature women…so far. Just think of the wisdom you will be surrounded with. I have always thought it must have been wonderful to have had the experiences of St John. Most of the apostles were of a mature age.

The most important thing to consider is whether this is the type of work you would be willing and able to do. It is very challenging work. I hope you have the calling.
