Just a quick note on the amazing news that Archbishop Burke has been appointed as Prefect of Apostolic Signatura effective immediately! Here is a great article about it…
stlouiscatholic.blogspot.com/2008/06/goodbye-st-louis-holy-father-tabs_27.html

We have no idea what this will mean about our consecration in September or even who will be the new Archbishop here. It is all rather overwhelming even to speculate, so we are trying not to! 🙂

On the more mundane - the humidity is bearable right now and the frozen custards sounds good at some stage! Right now is way too busy to even think about getting out for that!

There are three of the founding sisters here now with two more scheduled to arrive soon, not counting Ros, who is also living with us now, while still continuing with some speaking engagements around the country.

Please keep Archbishop Burke in your prayers, and also pray for the Archdiocese of St Louis, that God might send us a shepherd who can continue to care for us with the love and support that Archbishop Burke did.

Blessed be God forever.

The thing about older women and those who have raised families, is not only that they are experienced in life and sure of ‘where they are going’, ‘desire to go’ and
  • prepared to make the sacrifices necessary to get there which maturity will insight in the main.
Maturity also insights that sacrifice may well be called for…
but also that having raised a family, they are long experienced
  • in putting the common good (that of their family) over and above themselves
which motherhood especially will ask. One of the things I found extremely difficult with the breakup of my own marriage, was how to put myself first and find my own way and a life and future for myself, accustomed as I was to putting others first. For many years I floundered not able to insight the dynamics of my psychology well ingrained and habitual, which was conditioned to put my own needs as quite secondary.
  • I still find putting others before myself accomplished with relative ease which flows from long practise in its necessity as I functioned in the past as wife and mother.
  • I find it mysterious why some Orders refuse mature women on the basis that they are mothers though their ‘children’ are adults and totally independent with their own lives, careers and independent accommodation well established.
But I fear this thread may be drifting from its prime purpose which is a worthwhile one for sure.

Blessings and regards…Barb:)
…and with that, BT, any chance your are looking…? At Ros’ new community or any other?

–I just made a review of communities on two large diocesan websites and found that 95% didn’t list a maximum age range AT ALL. Five Mercy groups joined to make the Mercy of the Midwest and West–average age: 70. Four St. Francis Millvale groups (same foundress) just merged–average age 73. You think they’ll balk at an otherwise suitable candidate in good health in her 60’s? I doubt it! (OK you trad habit-ers, don’t say it–you’re off topic;))

Hi 1234…I have been"looking" for many years! I live in Australia and here there is no opening it would seem for a woman at 62yrs with a history of mental illness (although I have been stable for many years) and who is a mother of two adult independant sons. I think the reason I cannot even get a hearing really is that most of our Australian congregations are now well advanced in years and they don’t want another heading rapidly that way. There is a resistance too to a person who has a history of MI and also to mothers - leastways that is the reasons I am given and most often quite short and sharp. I keep looking still in the hope that something quite visionary re religious life per se will crop up.

I have a good feeling that Archbishop Burke will continue to keep a close eye on St. Louis ! And what were we just talking about?? LOL

I feel 👍 that all will be well with you all there !

Hello again. I have finally arrived in St Louis after a very long trek across the country. There are three of us living here right now (two more are coming soon) and we are attempting to start living the Rule, although this isn’t always practicable given the circumstances right now. We are staying in a house on loan from some very generous sisters here in St Louis until our own convent is ready.

Our convent is undergoing a major overhaul, with so many wonderful and generous volunteers and benefactors helping out. Although not a lot can be done for the next two weeks because the painter can’t come until the weekend of the 13th, and the floors can’t be done until after the painter has finished. Although volunteers are greatly appreciated, it is best if no one just shows up without first contacting Judy, the volunteer coordinater, since there is no one currently living at the convent to answer the door or assign tasks! Email me if you want Judy’s contact details. There may be opportunities for volunteer work later in the summer (but unfortunately there is no accommodation available at this end).

So many donations have come - it is so inspiring to see. And everyone we meet wants to help out in some way! Blessed be God forever!

The prototype habit is being even further improved, and we were excited to see that it is starting to become a reality! Some of us took turns trying it on and even though it isn’t quite what Ros wants yet, it is coming together beautifully.

Anyone who has applied to enter the community should soon receive an acknowledgement card in the mail. I will also be responding to enquiries from women who are interested in receiving an information packet and application. Feel free to email me at anniemac@calequus.com. I will send the packet via email to those with email addresses, or via snail mail for those who find this method preferable.

I would love to post more, but it is late and there isn’t any more time! God bless everyone for their prayers and good wishes for Rosalind and her new community.
I am so SO glad you made it safely. Only an hour later, right at McDonalds, a girl turned left and was on the 2 lane … the wrong 2 lane headed towards Springfield. On a hill about a mile later, she met with a truck…both did not make it. Please pray for the repose of their souls and their families. One lives in my town and the other only 15 miles away. The sirens went off for an hour. :harp: Kathie

…Consecrated life is a "call " by God but affirmed by
individuals responsible to accept that call. If a particular institute/congregation/monastery has restrictions it is because they are responsible before God for the souls of those men/women who are placed in their care through profession of vows.
And the restrictions are not arbitrary, but based on
a history of what works and what doesn’t. When you read vocation information what you sometimes see is “…on an individual basis” when talking about age…it means that somhave worked out and that
they are willing to dialogue with you to see if you will be another exception…
All true. One can always inquire, tho’, but not* argue* with the response. Quite a few communities, tho’, are using the phrases, “exceptions are sometimes made” and “each case considered individually” and no upper age limit is mentioned.

Have you checked out Servants of the Sacred Cross,<www.thesacredcross.org>. Most of their sisters live at home, some in Australia. However, they have recently opened a convent in Nova scotia, and there is a possibility that they might eventually open one in Australia.
Blessings,

I have been following this thread with great interest. One thing that has always bothered me is that there seemed to be very few options for older women and vocations. I know the reasons behind the communities’ age limits, but mature women can bring so much energy and insight to a community. It is encouraging to read about Rosalind’s vision. In this time of declining vocations, maybe more communities will reevaluate their age limits.

Hello Stars…Yes, I have corresponded with Mother Wendy James, foundress of the SSC, for quite some time now on an on and off sort of regular basis - I regularly access their website to stay in touch with happenings…I am really attracted to them as I have picked up along the way that they are very devout Sisters and that their formation is quite intensive, strong. I also have much admiration for Mother Wendy. What holds me back is the wearing of the habit and living at home - my parish is very resistant to the new and I cannot overcome my fears that I would be totally ostracized even moreso than I am now. My attraction to the SSC persists, but I cannot overcome this habit hurdle - though the wearing of a habit is a very important factor to me indeed. I really am a background - just a face in the crowd - sort of person, or what my doctor calls “very private person”. This is the first I have heard however that they may eventually found a convent in Australia though and the situation would be different for me personally I think if there were other Sisters either living in community or perhaps living at home here in South Australia. Although dear Mother Wendy may have written me off completely as an aspirant by now:o - nor would I blame her at all.
There are two Australian sisters living in Perth, Western Australia. These are the only two Australian SSC sisters to my knowledge…and there are many miles and the massive Nullaboor Desert between us. Also, Archbishop Hickey in Perth has been extremely welcoming of the SSC.

Blessings and regards…Barb:)

Archbishop Burke is a living saint. (possibly the first American pope some day;) ) St Louis will always be at the top of his prayer list. If he is praying for a holy and orthodox successor I am confident his prayers will be heard. Your best prayer at this time is the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Jesus, I trust in you. I trust you will be there during these important first months for Ros and her sisters. Please bless the diocese of St Louis with the special graces needed during all the big changes.
I noticed on EWTN that during the month of July there will be a dedication of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine that Archbishop Burke had constructed in La Crosse, WI when he was the bishop there. I am assuming he will be there for the dedication. He leaves his former dioceses beautiful monuments. Rosalind’s new community will be the “beautiful monument” he will leave behind in St Louis.

Praised Be Jesus Christ!

CALLING ALL MIDWEST CATHOLICS!!!

EWTN’s Family Celebration is going to take place in DeKalb, Illinois, MY HOME TOWN :dancing: on October 4th and 5th! It is going to be at the Northern Illinois University Convocation Center. I work at NIU! Rosalind is going to speak for an hour on the 4th!!! 👍

Also speaking will be Marcus Grodi, Fr. Mitch Pacwa, Fr. Benedict Groeschel . . . this is just too fantastic! :whacky: And it’s all free, there are no tickets required. If you are within driving distance of DeKalb, about an hour northwest of Chicago, you have to do yourself a favor and come. :bounce: WILD HORSES won’t keep me away . . . besides, I can walk to the Convocation Center from my apartment. 😃 Yippee! Yippee! Yippee! :extrahappy:

I too would encourage all Midwesterners to attend…especially if Rosalind will be speaking on the 4th! Maybe we posters could create a spiritual bouquet that you could print out and give to her when you see her.
Make sure to get a blessing from Father Groeschel. Some day when he becomes a saint you will treasure that blessing.

Oh! I received a blessing from Fr Groeschel and Fr Corapi! I even had Fr corapi sign a book!:extrahappy:

I would be very glad to print out and take to Rosalind any spritual “flowers” that are posted on this thread. I just hope that I will get close enough to her to give them to her. The Convocation Center is a giant place! But I am going to go very early to get a good seat.

I’ll also try to get that blessing from Father Groeschel, but I don’t dare tell him I want the blessing of a future saint. I think he is too humble to even think that way, but, of course, we who love him DO think that way! 👍

I can’t wait until October. Illinois is such a wonderfully CATHOLIC place! I hope we fill that giant auditorium (it’s more like an enclosed stadium really) and lift the roof off with our songs, our prayers, and our praises to God! Praised be Jesus Christ now and forever!:highprayer:

Poor Rosalind! The name of her new community is making some Jews in St Louis nervous.
They think she is out to “save the Jews!”

Mark Shook, Senior Rabbi of Congregation Temple Isreal of Creve Coeus teaches Philosophy at St Louis University. He recently wrote in www.STLtoday.com (last week) about his distrust of Rosalind’s community:

"the new community appears to be a proseltyzing effort directed especially toward Jews.

…I view this, at best, as a misquided effort at saving the Jews from damnation.
,find programs which target Jews as Jews to be offensive."

We friends of Ros know that she did not name her community Mother of Isreal’s Hope because she wanted to “save the Jews from damnation!” She is showing the relationship between the Jews and the Catholics in a “good” way. We love our Jewish cousins!

I hope this misunderstanding is nipped quickly!

Oh, dear! How painful for Rosalind who is so proud of her Jewish heritage! 😦 I will pray very hard that the Rabbi and others who took offense will learn the truth about how much we Catholics love and respect our Jewish bretheren. I suppose they may not know that we know that Our Lord and His Dear Mother were Jewish, and all the Apostles were Jewish, too. Yes, my prayers are with the Daughters of Mary, Mother of Israel’s Hope. :highprayer:

I will join you in prayer. :gopray2:

I hope Rosalind is able to meet with the rabbi to show him how loving she is towards the Jews. He has jumped to his own predjudiced conclusion that Catholics believe Jews are going to hell. There are some Protestan religions that believe that but Catholics love the Jews and are grateful for their history.

Nunsense, where are you?

I keep checking back to this thread for an update and you are nowhere to be seen.

Jesus, I trust in you!
Jesus, I trust in you!
Jesus, I trust in you!

:hmmm: I will keep saying this prayer so I don’t start worrying. :coffeeread:
