What a lot of people do not, or refuse to, understand is that the Catholic Church is not a Democracy and also that it has stood up for 2000 years without major change and that it has weathered worse scandals than this one. Jesus meant it when He said “the gates of hell shall not prevail” and that He will be with it always.

I never thought I would say it, but I am poised to become a member of the right wing. This rapacious exploitation of a grave scandal by the forces opposed to Our Church draws up a clear image of the stark contrast which exists between traditional cultural ideals and the countercultural radicalism which is actively engaged against these principles. The media has willingly shed the cloak of objectivity it had hidden behind for so long and has been revealed as a diabolical appendage in the war between light and darkness.

One can no longer straddle the lines politically, culturally, or more importantly…spiritually. These grave sins by members of our clergy, the mishandling of these crimes by the hierarchy, are deep wounds to the corpus of Our Church, but these bleeding wounds have drawn out from the shadows the ravenous enemies of Christ whose sheer bloodlust reveals their own dark depravity. We need not guess any more about shadowy conspiracies against the Church, or for that matter any culturally conservative aspect of society; the veil of secrecy has been lifted. There is an enemy, and it is formidable.

I recieved an e-mail from Fr.Corapi this morning which railed against the dangers of a creeping socialism. At first I thought, “Don’t get political on us Father Corapi”, but then it dawned on me that we are living in revolutionary times where the traditional is lampooned, the sacred is defiled and the very fabric of Christian-derived moral and ethical values is being shredded. Neutrality just doesn’t cut it any more. There is no longer a safe middle ground. You are either all-in one way, or all-in the other. If we fall asleep, we may awaken to a changed world in which our values and beliefs are deemed anathema.

Hand me my shield and buckler…I am ready for this new, and very different, crusade.

Amen! And as I stated in another thread, in the words of the late Kieth Green, “No Compromise!”

A thousand Dittos. I feel the same way.

I believe the liberals on the extreme left hate Rush almost as much as they hate the Catholic Church. I say he has a point about this recent barrage of attacks but there really is nothing new here in all the latest media hype.

Discerning people of any faith at all have to wonder why all this hatred and venom is directed at the 2000 year old church, time and again. This drives many faithful to investigate our faith and come home at last to the Catholic Church. If satan hates it so much, it must the one true Church of Jesus Christ.:amen:

For countless abuse victims, the doors to the church were indeed the “gates of hell”. Are you sure (I am not) that the gates of hell have not prevailed?

I understand your trepidation. I had to make this transition as well. But it is necessary.

Here is the Left:

That is the Left.

If you read about the Red Terror in Spain… not counting civilians, they murdered about 7,000 clergy. And 13 bishops! This was the “Spanish Revolution”… an attempt to completely reinvent Spanish culture.

But it’s all there in the source texts of the Left. Some people try to soft-pedal the rhetoric of Communists. That’s a mistake. Let’s go all the way back to Kant. His principle of moral philosophy is that since nobody knows about God and all that God stuff, man has to be “autonomous”. Read that: an auto - nomos… a “self-law”. Now a Christian will say “Hey, I thought God gives the laws?” Kant and the Liberal tradition say “No”. They say that Man gives the laws.

Fast forward to Hegel. What is he doing? Well, it’s complicated. But one of the things he does is transports the Kantian subject (the “self-law”) from the individual to the State. That’s because (at its simplest… though German philosophers hate simplicity) two things that militate against one another in contradiction give rise to a third term which encompasses that contradiction. So the individual person cannot be the locus of true autonomy… he’s in contradiction with other individuals. There’s something that stands over their conflict and is fueled by it.

Then morality (still in Hegel) becomes a matter of evolution (the “Philosophy of History”). There is no morality as traditionally defined… morality is history. What is good is that which triumphs. What is bad is that which falls before the triumphant. When it gets down to brass tacks, you only judge good or bad in retrospect: it’s really just another way of saying “winner” versus “loser” (Nietzsche later tries to put this anti-morality back into the individual).

For Hegel this historical process of social evolution had certain spiritual and mystical aspects (sadly revisited in de Chardin). Feuerbach came along and just stripped all the non-Materialist elements out of Hegel: all Marxists are Feuerbachians. In Marxism, the process of historical evolution becomes one of the natural selection of the highest and most mighty class: the industrial proletariat. It is not that it is morally right that workers be treated well… in Marxism there is no morality except the retrospection of victory (“History is on our side! We will bury you!”).

For any Marxist programme of social evolution to take place, a number of things have to happen. One is the complete conversion of the culture to Materialism. Everything non-Materialist is not just considered superstition: it is consider the work of the Class Enemies… social classes that seek to enslave the proletariat. Further, and this is vital: the fundamental tenets of Marxian philosophy are nonsensical if traditional morality exists and is true. I don’t mean things like putting poor folks on the dole. I mean the underlying propositions of the philosophical edifice of Dialectical Materialism.

This holds true for any type of Marxist (there are so many types because Marx was obviously wrong in his prognostication about socialist revolution: it did not happen where he said it would or in the way he said it would… so all the other types, Stalinists, Trotskyists, Western Academics, etc. have to come up with an interpretation as to why he was wrong, and this is what specifies them). It’s not that giving poor folks some handouts or shortening the work week are somehow against Christianity. Those things, for the Marxists, aren’t even moral positions: in Marxism, there is no particular moral position at all, only strategies and tactics for revolutionary victory. The real question at stake is not what poor folks get from the government. What is at stake is an entire view of history, morality, God and man. And that is when it gets violent.

Welcome to the right, my friend. Viva Cristo Rey!

Good point.

Rush says in the transcript: “What really is going on here is that the forces of the left are in the process of trying to tear down and destroy every institution in America that stands for something other than big government, other than liberal Democrats.”

I appreciate his defense of the Church, but it’s wrong to attribute the news media’s reporting on sex abuse in the Church and the way that the bishops have handled the matter to a liberal vs. conservative fight or to a power grab by liberals. It’s news, pure and simple. It would be irresponsible for the press to not report on these matters. The fact is that abuse happened and that the bishops handled these problems badly.

The way to stop the news is to come clean and accept blame for wrongdoing. Instead, whether to shore up the image of the Church or to avoid saying things that might damage the Church in lawsuits, Church leaders have blamed the press, the lawyers, etc., etc. for bringing these things to light. Rush wants to blame the liberals. Big surprise. The denials, the blame game, and so on just keep this mess dragging on. We have only ourselves to blame.

From your post I assume that you can’t see the forest for the trees.

Yes, the scandal within the Church can be/is news. But, the way the media reports it and harps on it, and distorts it only proves that it is not fair and is irresponsible. The media has sided with the left and as usual uses the Catholic Church as a whipping boy. Tell me, have you read any other sexual abuse stories occuring in other religious denominations or schools? If so, they were usually a small minor article hidden among the advertisments.
Also, if they do report such happenings, are they of the same magnitude as those reported of the Catholic Church? Of course not. So, should we all be quiet and swallow our integrity as Catholics and subject ourselves to all the diatribe and abuse? I, myself, will not. I will use whatever I can to defend my faith and proclaim the truth, like it or not.

The one question that is important is this: Did priests and bishops in the Church rape and molest children or not? Did they then compound their sin by hiding it and allowing the criminals to continue in the priesthood or did they not?

There is a devil within the Church and it is closing the eyes and ears of many Catholics to the rape and molestation committed in their name. Pride and hatred have taken hold among many when they should address their sins and turn to God.

The media has reported on sex scandals in other churches - Ted Haggard, Jimmy Sawggart - and I agree that the Catholic Church should fess up to whatever is wrong and not be so defensive. I think this is the best policy morally and strategically.

Also, “underwear in a wad”? Cringe.

“underwear in a wad”! Is that like getting your knickers in a knot???😃

I there any chance that you are ill-informed. PLEASE realize that the Church, the Pope, and the entire religious network HAVE been responding, all along. However, the liberal press will not report this. It is up to Catholics like yourself to become well informed about these responses and be able to talk intelligently about what is really going on. If you would take the time to read up on all the avenues of response and correction that are already in place and the ongoing responses from the Church that are never reported, it would certainly be a big help. Check the Catholic New Network and you will be amazed at how much you will learn. Jumping on the bandwagon of the naysayers who do not have all the facts and don’t want them is not helpful at all.

i agree it is time for us who hold tight to what the church teaches to stand up and be not afraid. we will be scoffed at. it is only a brief time ago our position was mainstream, but the world now interprets us as right wing rather than us becoming right wing.
I do believe it is going to get a lot worse, at the minute we are considerd just crazy but i think we are getting more marginilised by the day.
the ammount of mass going catholics who now believe that satan and hell does not exist, that christ is not in the eucharist that going to mass most sundays is acceptable and that all religions are equal never fails to shock me.
Lord grant me and my loved ones the grace to stay with you and to come running back after each and every fall.

To blame the abuse scandal on the leftist American media is so wrong, I don’t even know where to begin.

First, that sort of attitude minimizes what we HAVE to recognize is a very grave and horrific aspect of our Church’s recent history. The response of the Church should be to simply acknowledge the wrongs that were committed, apologize, and develop a plan to prevent such horrors from happening again, as best as is possible. The response of the Church should NOT be to hide behind a wall of excuses, blaming liberals, blaming the media, blaming everyone but those truly responsible for the abuse and its coverup.

Second, we have to thank investigative journalism for what it has found. It was the aggressive investigation by the Boston Globe a decade ago that brought to light the scandal of the Boston diocese, which forced the rest of the American Church to adopt policies to deal with and prevent child abuse across the country. I recall that the Globe was loudly decried by Cardinal Law, et al, at the time, but without its work no attention would have been paid to the crimes ongoing, no changes would have been made, and abuse would have continued.

Third, nearly all of the recent stories have involved the Church in Europe - Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, etc. This is news, as such widespread abuse there was not (to my knowledge) previously disclosed, as it had been here in the US. It is impossible to think such reports would not make headlines across the world. The fact that Benedict was at least peripherally involved in an abuse case in Germany is also a big deal to report on, like it or not.
