Russian punk band 'blasphemy' trial - thoughts?

If the Orthodox churchmen have any awareness of/regard for PR, they won’t want to make a big deal about forcing Feminists to serve them.

It is not the female body itself which is shameful, it’s the way the beauty of the femanine form has become a commodity that is a cause of shame. Women are expected to be objects that are only good for looking pretty.

And, on the main point…

Where are the deac-oh, there they are, never mind. They were VERY restrained in their removal of these young…persons.

Now to me, that is most definitely a hate crime. So if Russia has laws against hate crimes then they should be charged with one.
 
I just watched the video and I must say I am totally shocked by this sickening and blasphemous behavior of this band! :eek: I think they should all face prison time.

I believe the word word you’re looking for is women.
Right;)

And women have always been heavily judged based on their looks, and all too often were literally a commodity (there are passages in the Old Testament about the proper way to sell your daughter into slavery).

Am I the only one here who notices the element of standing up to a tyrant in this story?

That’s depressing.
It sounds like Russia is reverting back to the strong church/state relationship it had under the Czars.
If that happens, don’t be surprised if they eventually come for the Catholics.

That’s why we should support free speech, even if we don’t like what’s being said: because one day someone will try and shut us up.

BTW the article also says:
In court, Ms Tolokonnikova said that although they were pleading not guilty, that did not mean they were not prepared to apologise for the pain their performance in the cathedral had caused.

I am against their imprisonment and this is partially to do with it. The fact of the matter is that Putin is a tyrant; this whole incident sounds like this band is being targeted more for opposing him than for anything else.

I despise the idea that people should be jailed simply for being disrespectful or for doing things that are in bad taste.

Femen’s message is a mixed one. On one hand, they are actively trying to get the Ukraine to put an end to the abusive prostitution and sex tourism that the Ukraine is becoming noted for, and to secure women a place in the public life of the Ukraine (good), but also are anti-religious, anti-government, and prone to excesses of hyperbole. That they use the one thing they have going for them - attractive female bodies - as a weapon to get the press to notice them (as well as politicians).

Femen has a tendency toward knee-jerk reaction to any public arrest involving the silencing of women with political messages… they support the arrested women.

I kinda like Putin, or should I say more accurately, I sympathise with him on a number of issues. I think it’s good that Russia has a leader who will stand up to NATO and the West.

He is unlike the president of the Philippines, that’s for sure.
My country’s president loves to bend over backwards when it comes to emulating Western fads such as homosexism, contraception and divorce.

Uhm, the alternative to Putin are the communists. I think I don’t need to tell anyone here that the Orthodox Church has had some negative experiences with the communists in the past, so of course they support Putin.
