He still should have vetoed it if he thought it was unconstitutional.

ProVobis:
You may be right, but it’s not outside of Congress’s authority. And besides he signed it into law.
It can’t be both. It can’t simultaneously be an unconstitutional infringement on executive power and be within congress’ authority.

And his signing it does not mean he agrees with it. I think he said so at the time.
I’m curious, how is it unconstitutional? It’s not as if the Constitution affords the Executive absolute control over foreign affairs. The Senate still has to approve treaties, and many foreign policies have been enabled by legislation. It sure looks like an area of shared responsibility, but I’d say that on the balance, Congress probably has the upper hand.

The support was so strong that Congress would have overridden the veto, and then what, the President goes to the supreme Court. And where is he going to point to in the Constitution that forbids Congress from making law dealing with foreign affairs, considering there’s a long list of laws passed by Congress that do just that.

the dossier is acknowledged as fiction.

Clinton Cash has footnotes and lists of resources … read it!

It seems the Constitution presumes a certain amount of cooperation between the 3 branches, with neither being the superior in authority, at least in principle.

Nope, not when the courts can overturn laws. The three branches are coeval, with some separate and some overlapping powers. And that is by design.

The sad thing is I think the damage is already done. We are a nation very very divided. I do not see it coming back together any time soon if ever.
I kinda think we felt more divided after the Civil War, yet rifts heal and people move forward.

Still, wasn’t it done for partisan reasons? Doesn’t that make it just as suspect, just from the other side.

We well know from the leaks that Mueller has been using the Steele Dossier, and as time has gone on we are also seeing that what it contains is being borne out.

BTW, I just heard that Gates now today has confessed, but I don’t yet know the details.

The vultures are circling over the Trump camp, and…

More charges against Manafort announced as well. In addition to money laundering, tax and bank fraud.

I doubt it. I think the anti-Trumpers serving Russian interests on CAF are all volunteers…true believers.
Got it. If you’re not happy with the results of the last presidential election, you’re serving Russian interests.

OK, then.

At this point there is no way that we can know if Manafort’s and Gate’s legal problems directly relate to Trump, but the issue of money-laundering could be a common denominator as both Trump and Kushner ran into some serious financial issues and couldn’t secure western loans. Mueller has not tipped his hand yet, which is undoubtedly a good thing.

IOW, stay tuned.

My question of the mandate is when did the Trump campaign really start. Some old videos of his interviews have Trump planting seeds of his desires to be president when he was 33, before he was even eligible. So things that happened before he formally announced his candidacy can’t be tossed out as unrelated IMO.

Oh, not all who did not support Trump are serving Russian interests by interfering with governance. But I do believe the excessive degree of hate, the fake news and spin actually do. I don’t know if Putin planned it that way, but if he didn’t, he should have.
