I’ve been feeling very sad all day at the thought of Jesus being tortured and crucified. I know that atonement came from it, but why call it good when it is so sad? 😦

You could be particularly attuned to the Paschal Moon phases too. Easter Sunday falls directly after the first full moon of spring (in the northern hemisphere). That phase is referred to as the paschal moon and evokes a time of sombre reflection in human experience like a period of darkness before a bright new dawn. This year the actual peak of the paschal full moon is on Good Friday itself.

I realized today that I would follow Jesus even if he did not rise from the dead. His life an dteachings mean so much.

Indeed. I too have had it heavily on my mind. Also images of the scourging and crucifixion from the movie The Passion of the Christ have been coming through as well. It good because He paid the price and rose again! Amen.

Luke 23:28. Jesus told the Daughters of Jerusalem not to weep for Him, but for themselves and their own children. We shouldn’t be feeling sorry for Jesus, but feel sorry for our own sins.

It is “good” because God submitted to evil so that He alone could bring good - salvation and eternal life - from it. Or, put colloquially: no pain, no gain.

Think of “Good Friday” as leading into “Excellent Sunday”

It is called good because Christ died to save our sins and he made salvation possible. In just a few days Jesus rises from the dead, it is leading into a joyful Sunday. Happy almost Easter!

It was difficult tonight to read the chorus parts - crucify Him. Our priests told us to focus on the love that Christ showed in his willingness to die for us.
