This is a very interesting thread but I do have a question. I have seen antimormon, antijehova witness, antiSDA sites posted by catholics trying to make a point against these respective believers of these religions on catholic forums. And I know that believers in these faiths find such sites hateful, containing untruths. Is there a double standard here? I think that it is wonderful that people are giving advice to the 15 year old about these anticatholic sites but can you also see the point of the mormon, SDA, or Jehova Witness when catholics post such anti sites for them to read? Or when catholics gleam information from anti sites and post the information as truth?

I think that all anti-sites are suspicious and should be avoided in countering an argument or in making a case. But what do the catholics think of antimormon sites? Anti-sda sites? etc?
wouldnt know, i dont go on these sites. why dont you start a thread with this question? thank you whyme/thecourt.😃

If you knew true worship you would also put the saints aside and your heart would be set on Him alone.
so the apostles didnt know true worship? so clement didnt know true worship? so ignatious, augustine, etc. didnt know true worship? we have an unbroken doctrine and worship that goes back 2000 years! im so happy you are able to enlighten me better than the apostles and the Church fathers. i am so happy you are here to enlighten me better than st. jerome, and to point out the errors of the apostles and their traditions they handed down to us. you are soooo wise. so? when are you going to start your own church? ill chalk up your remark to ignorance, and not tell you how i really feel.lol! i am trying very hard to be cheritable after reading some of your post. as ive said before. id rather have dinner with a Godly Mormon, than most protestants anyday. it would be much more edifying.:coffeeread:

Beautiful song. A great subject matter too, the worship of God.

But I see nothing but veneration there.

Now I’m just past the one minute mark, and I do plan to leave it on because it sounds quite lovely and entertaining, but worship it ain’t.
So this is equivalent of what you give Mary?

Another case of putting words in my mouth.

The apostles never said rosaries nor did they have statues in their church. So to say you follow only after their tradition is a lie. The tradition of prayer beads, praying those that have passed this life and statues and icons did not come from them. Where did they come from?

OK show me worship.

You could have still told what you thought about catholics going to anti sites and posted those sites in response to mormons or sdas or Jehova Witnesses. But…instead…you needed to deflect from the question. Oh by the way…if I was thecourt, catholic answers would have found that out a long time ago. Our IPs were drastically different. But nice deflection. 🙂

Personally, I’d rather hear these faiths beliefs out of their follower’s mouth or use this faith’s official site if possible.
What anti-faiths sites are you referring to you run by Catholics?

The anti sites are usually run by exmembers or EVs. But not catholics to my knowledge. But I have seen catholic posters going to these sites to respond to mormons and others.

Anti sites can not be trusted because they all have an agenda and that agenda is to get people to leave their faith.

Yep you’re right, my apologies. I grew up in an Anglican Church, but was schooled in an evangelical environment. I always hold the two as seperate in my own mind and will often use the term “protestant” to refer to either group, but almost never both together (I consider most Lutherans in the same group as Anglicans), unfortunetly no one else is ever aware of this tendency so of course it makes for great misunderstandings.

The more traditional protestants more often then not do worship God (I’m not going to say all), it is the less traditional ones which focus on the self.
It (broad generalizations) is quite easy to do. So, apology accepted and no problem. Plus, your track record as a poster had me thinking you didn’t mean it that way. 🙂

No, it is not. That is not what the Catholic Church means by Tradition. Furthermore, you are confusing doctrine and discipline.

By Tradition we mean the doctrines handed down to us. By disciplines we mean the way we act upon those doctrines. New disciplines can be added or discarded at any time. For example, it is a doctrine that we should pray. However, we can add new prayers (like the rosary) just like your church can add new hymns.

It is not fair for you to redefine our terminology to mean something else, then condemn us for not following your definition.

However, if you wish to discuss this further, please have the courtesy to start a new thread. This one is about the OP’s reaction to a particular website, not your view of the Catholic Church.

you are correct, they did not have rosaries. they had the 150 psalms. they would recite these. the joyful sorrowful and glorious mysteries, when added together add up to 150, whos to say they did not have statues in there Church. did not paul say to them, i protrayed nothing to you but Christ and him crucified. also they would count on beads or knots in a string to recite the 150 psalms. what part of the rosary do you disagree with? the angelic salutation? or the proclamation by elizabeth? is it the Lords prayer you disagree with, or the apostles creed? all these came down thru tradition by the apostle. look into what was drawn or written in the catacombs of rome. a lie? i will chalk up your condescending attitude to ignorance. still love you in Christ tho. :grouphug:

So this is equivalent of what you give Mary?
We do sing giving her the honour that is due her. We do not sing about worshipping her.

The reality is that isn’t really the equivalent of anything we do,however I’d still call it veneration, just like I would say Muslims venerate the Kaba, I wouldn’t say we have a direct parallel.

Find an Orthodox church and attend the Divine Liturgy, and you will see worship. Sadly it doesn’t have the same effect through youtube so I won’t give you any videos.
As an addition to this, if you don’t want to miss your own church service, pretty much all parishes which observe the New Calendar (most of them) will be holding a special service for the Presentation of the Theotokos on Saturday. You can go to that without worrying about missing your own service. Assuming it isn’t Saturday morning as well (in which case I suggest going to our Sunday service).

Hisalone, how you feel about this website? Do you think it’s accurate? Are you offended by it?
Naw I am not offended, I came for curiuosity, and have stayed to give some balance I honestly beleive Catholics are in denial as to who they are as opposed to who they say they are.

So we can agree there are 150 psalms?😉
benedict within one generation Isreal went from its pinacle to idolatry led by the wisest man the world has ever known. Why do you not believe we are not in danger of the same? We have Christ yes but they had the shekinah glory. You say Jesus said the gates of hell will not prevail that doesnt mean we (the church) will not err.
I understand the Catholic belief of the communion of saints and although I dont have the same belief there is no major problem here.
The excesses I see are statues, the shrines and other devotions.
I am in agreement for :grouphug:
Peace

So you say there is a level of veneration between Latria and hyperdulia?

Muslims worship the black box.

How does your Divine Liturgy differ from the Mass?

Can you not extend that same level of thinking to the youtube worship I provided?

The Orthodox interest me not as in a leading but as a better understanding of.
