I think all of us are trying to face what is happening in our country. It doesn’t help to put blame on the ‘other’ side.

I was left stunned, not to say staggered, by the declaration in the American press which I read as a result of this gathering sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese in San Diego and as I sought published comments of His Excellency.
Latinos were hit particularly hard by the tragedy — many estimate that up to 90 percent of the victims were Latino, the majority from Puerto Rico.
Which is to be found in what I can only take to be a significant/substantial and reliable news source for California

If this is true, it helps to make all the more clear why the Bishops in Florida would see this as, of course, a cause requiring their most urgent pastoral intervention possible – urgent indeed over and above the sheer tragic human consequence. Even on the other side of the Atlantic, it is understood the profound bonds that bind the Catholic dioceses of Florida to Cuba and Puerto Rico, going back across the centuries.

On the contrary, all the evidence shows it was targeted because it was a gay bar, in the same way Dylan roof targeted inside a predominantly African American church.

Indeed, the event on Saturday was primarily focused on the Latino and Gay Latino communities as I understand it. With several Latino groups in attendance including the Mexican Consul General.

I do not find the Catholic bishop offensive because he knows that homosexuality is still a sin.

LGBT people do not need to apologize. They were targets of a far-right extremist. They should accept the help of Christians in combating fascism and radical Islam.

I don’t now, Bishop McElroy seems to be at least a friend to the gay community. I mean he’s friendly enough with them that the Church Militant is accusing him of building a “homosexual agenda”.

At the heart of it though I’m not sure what you find offensive about a church celebrating the lives of those murdered in cold blood in Orlando. But if those kind of actions offend you, I guess I’m glad the Episcopal Church offends you. 👍

I am not offended by them celebrating the lives of the victims. I am offended about the displaying of the rainbow flag and colors at the church. That shows an endorsement of homosexuality.

Doesn’t seem to stop your own bishop from wanting to participate in interfaith events with them.

So if self hatred was the cause do you think we should stop interacting with parishioners in a way that fosters intense self hatred or should we go for broke and cause another Orlando shooting this time by a Christian?

For a while I wondered if Voris was a repressed gay man and then I found out he happens to have “repented of his past which included sins of a homosexual nature”.
