I’ve been thinking about this as Pope Francis has “called out” President Trump multiple times, which is fine and heck, maybe The Pope and this Bishop are right. They are obviously more qualified than me, but here is my one question to them, where were you during the Obama administration? I didn’t hear boo from the Pope about the abortion policies Obama supported, nor did I hear anything bad about Obama’s policies from this or the other bishops around the country.

If you are gonna call out one President then have the fortitude to call out every President.

See John Podesta’s emails about a “Catholic Spring”.

Evidently with some US bishops that effort has been successful.

Makes me long for period from 0 AD - January 20, 2017 when the Church called for unity and healing.

Disruption? And these are from the same people who preach peace!?!? We need to unify people under Trump who is doing a good job of appointing pro-life, pro marriage judges among so many good things. His wife said an Our Father in front of a big audience the other day. Trump was on stage with Alvita King, who is a very good pro-life advocate. and gave her a hug giving her props.

Obama and HiIary would have kept the socialist communist ball rolling by appointing bad judges and continuing to pound religion while supporting abortion and same sex marriage and gender ideology and killing the family.

Yet if Hillary had gotten elected you probably would never have heard a peep out of him about her pro-abortion policies, pro-euthanasia, attacks on religious liberty, etc…

In many ways Trump is the most anti-Catholic President there has been in a while. Perhaps that is why the Pope and the bishops feel a need to call him out.

Trump and the GOP deny a right to health, climate change, the need for income fairness and the rights of immigrants and refugees. Those are life issues and Trump is on the wrong side of them.

Hopefully the Bishop of San Diego will be joined by most US Catholic bishops in opposing the Trump/GOP agenda.

This is a pivot point in history - the Pope is being prophetic in speaking out as is the bishop.

Or its that some bishops will happily crawl over a pile of dead babies in the hope that somebody will improve the insurance industry.

Oh yes, not the guy that broke pretty much every commandment there is, no that guy isn’t anti-Catholic. My friend, I think you need to pray about this, hopefully the Holy Spirit will speak to you…

That is a preposterous claim. Trump and the GOP support equal opportunity, NOT equal outcome like progressives want, and that does NOT equate to denying a right to health or good income.

Furthermore, illegal immigrants and refugees do NOT have rights under the law. There is space for compassion, and Trump is rightfully not shutting the door entirely. “Travel ban” is a phrase made up by the media; what is actually happening is “extreme vetting”, by which immigrants and refugees are still allowed to enter if they pass the necessary checks.

LittleFlower378:

Well put - thank you. This bishop seems to be airing his personal opinion, and not what the majority of his fellow clergy are thinking.

That’s million dollar question for everyone who is suddenly concerned about the immigration issue.

What it tells me is we have leaders who listen to and believe the mainstream media.

The next time I get asked “why are we losing”, I’m going to point to this conversation.

The fact is people have been exposed napping on the job for 8 years because they trust bias sources.

There is no Catholic doctrine of climate change. Health care can’t really be considered a right unless you first have the right to life. Income inequality is a fact of life that has existed since the dawn of time and across every culture. It is no worse in the modern west than it was at any other time. Every other pope recognized the right of a nation to protect its heritage and its identity. So no, the GOP and the current president aren’t anti catholic in any sense of the word. If we want to talk about anti catholic we shall Joe look at president Obama who was pushing an agenda that openly contradicted catholic doctrine and dogma. And anyone who disagreed with that agenda wasn’t allowed to participate in society.

Seriously? Please explain Obama suing a group of Nuns to force them to bow to his demand that they fund an activity they say violates their freedom of conscience / religion:
realclearpolitics.com/articles/2015/11/11/obamas_war_on_the_little_sisters_of_the_poor_128691.html

I honestly cannot remember a President who ever went after a Catholic group like that. They might have been before my lifetime, but since I’ve been around Obama wins the prize.

What defense did the Obama administration use to justify suing nuns over birth control & abortifacients? The spouted a statistic that 82% of Catholics have no moral issue with birth control! In other words, Obama just replaced the Pope for determining what is and is not moral for Catholics!

I eagerly await your explanation
Trump and the GOP deny a right to health,
Trump denies a right to health?

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you meant “healthcare”. Trump just laid out his plan before congress, with one of his points being: " Ensuring people with pre-existing health conditions are guaranteed “access” to health insurance, "and that we have a stable transition for Americans currently enrolled in the health-care exchanges.

cnbc.com/2017/02/28/trump-health-care-five-principles-for-obamacare-replacement.html

In other words, your point is demonstrably false
climate change, the need for income fairness and the rights of immigrants and refugees. Those are life issues and Trump is on the wrong side of them.
Trump may or may not be right on climate change. I won’t defend everything he says.
Regarding “income fairness”…what the heck is that? Please cite sources…he seems to want to bring back jobs to the US for middle income America…that appears to be a good thing.

I would recommend you rethink the number of life issues Trump is wrong on, and honestly compare to those that Obama was wrong on. There is no question Obama was more anti-Catholic according to your definition when looking objectively at the facts.

Would that our SJW’s would spend as much time seeking out lost souls and fallen Catholics as they do chasing the social cause de jour.

The same old lies, reducing the horror of murdering babies to the same level as social justice issues, real or fabricated.
There must be a loss of credibility among faithful Catholics.

Before the Presidential election, Trump told Catholics he would protect them. How long can this mean-spirited lashing out go on before he has had the proverbial gutful of these bishops and their allies, to the detriment of the Church in the USA?

Pope Francis and the bishops opposed President Obama’s policies constantly. How did you miss it? Marches opposing gay marriage, same sex bathrooms, supporting small business owners, pro-life marches, marches and statements regarding religious freedom…They’ve been going non-stop. Pope Francis even seized the chance he had in the US to gently speak to our leaders about specific concerns he had. He had no power here, and he knew it, but he also knew Catholics were listening, as well as many others, even if the politicians tried to limit his exposure.

But now, there are new concerns and the bishops should address them. Thank God the bishops don’t align strictly with a political party. They never should. God’s laws trumps all human laws. Have you not heard these statements made by our bishops?

Catholic media covers this sort of thing, but the mainstream media just plucks out random misquoted statements from the Pope to spread disarray. The Vatican website is most useful, as is the USCCB’s website. They will give the unified answer on Catholic social teaching. If you hear one bishop state something odd, go look it up on the USCCB website. Chances are, he’s either been misquoted, or has an unusual opinion.

Our Church’s human leaders may not always agree on everything. In fact, there are a few bishops with unusual opinions, but the majority stand true and will not be led astray.

Remember, the general rule with translating the media’s response to anything said by the Catholic Church leaders is that they seek the unusual. Just like car accidents. You only hear about the people that crashed. You never hear about the thousands that made it home safely.

Pope Francis Addresses President Obama And Guests At White House

“Mr. President, I find it encouraging that you are proposing an initiative for reducing air pollution. Accepting the urgency, it seems clear to me also that climate change is a problem which can no longer be left to a future generation. When it comes to the care of our “common home”, we are living at a critical moment of history. We still have time to make the changes needed to bring about “a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change” (Laudato Si’, 13). Such change demands on our part a serious and responsible recognition not only of the kind of world we may be leaving to our children, but also to the millions of people living under a system which has overlooked them. Our common home has been part of this group of the excluded which cries out to heaven and which today powerfully strikes our homes, our cities and our societies. To use a telling phrase of the Reverend Martin Luther King, we can say that we have defaulted on a promissory note and now is the time to honor it.”
