Well, I did e-mail her an offer to attend my bible class at a Senior Citizen Apartment. I told her that I understood that she’s busy but gave her an offer to "drop In’’. I was nice but told her that perhaps a bible/catechism lesson before she goes on Nation T.V would be helpful.

My impression is that this story even if Bishop Niederauer wishes to make it on a larger scale will not be covered by the widespread media, only the Catholic media. After all, Nancy Pelosi is the beloved of the pro-death community.

Last month, in two televised interviews and a subsequent statement released through her office, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and a Catholic residing in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, made remarks that are in serious conflict with the teachings of the Catholic Church about abortion. It is my responsibility as Archbishop of San Francisco to teach clearly what Christ in his Church teaches about faith and morals, and to oppose erroneous, misleading and confusing positions when they are advanced.
I regret the necessity of addressing these issues in so public a forum, but the widespread consternation among Catholics made it unavoidable. Speaker Pelosi has often said how highly she values her Catholic faith, and how much it is a source of joy for her. Accordingly, as her pastor, I am writing to invite her into a conversation with me about these matters. It is my obligation to teach forthrightly and to shepherd caringly, and that is my intent. Let us pray together that the Holy Spirit will guide us all toward a more profound understanding and appreciation for human life, and toward a resolution of these differences in truth and charity and peace.

I’m not sure what to make of this. On the one hand, I think the Archbishop’s letter is a very good example of a shepherd being willing to go to the ends of the earth to find and bring home a lost sheep.

But on the other hand, his equivocation on the matter of Ms. Pelosi’s excommunication is a slap in the face to the recent (albeit unofficial) statement from Archbishop Burke: **“If a person who has been admonished persists in public mortal sin and attempts to receive Communion, the minister of the Eucharist has the obligation to deny it to him. Why? Above all, for the salvation of that person, preventing him from committing a sacrilege.”

**I think we should pray that the Holy Spirit grants His Excellency the courage to make such a proclamation if, God forbid, the time should come to do so.

to me it is clearly a last chance. by inviting her to meet with him he has met his obligations and made a good faith move that she could just be misinformed(very charitable). however having done this, i think that he has made it clear that her next vote or remark against church teaching will be the last straw and he’ll respond with approiate action.

I would love to see this bishop hit a Palin home run.

He has an article about it which will be published on Sept 5th. Many of us assume that the reason for the delay is so he could counsel Speaker Pelosi one-on-one first.
Today is Sept 5th. Has anyone seen this article yet. Maybe someone can provide a link to it.

That’s it. More reasons to pray for Archbishop Niederauer to get stronger. Even Jesus told the woman about to be stoned…Neither I condemn you, but go out and sin no more!!!

Wow. So he still hasn’t been able to establish contact with her and therefore needed to issue this public invitation. Wow, again.
It was at least a year ago the good archbishop claimed he didn’t know Madame Speaker was pro abortion. Seems like he’s had ample time to invite her to the mansion for tea and a long chat.

I think he’s just waiting for us all to find other things to occupy our mundane lives and let the issue fall away.

The diocese phone number and email ar4e listed on its website.

This link is taking back to THIS thread…???
The moderator merged your thread with my thread, giving it my thread’s title. Yes, it is a little confusing since my post about Abp Niederauer’s article, with the link to it, wound up being buried after other posts were made to your thread.

The diocese mentioned either on its site or its newspaper, Bishop Niederauer had received a tremendous amount of calls and letters from across the nation urging him to take action.

I think he should receive some more…

The diocese phone number and email are listed on its website. 😃

I’m confused.

He wrote that whole letter just to ask her to meet with him on the issue?

Why not be a little more direct with her on the issue?

I’ll give it, Nancy Polesci doesn’t seem to have a good understanding of the Catholic faith, and a lot of people really don’t, it’s a sad sign of our times.

But that’s all the more reason to be forthright on the matter.

I’m confused.

I sometimes ask myself if I am going over the top on my views and comments about our political figures and their “know it all” attitudes and support for issues that I know to be morally wrong.

One of the first Bishops to make a public statement denouncing Ms. Pelosi’s false statements about Church teachings was Archbishop Charles J. Chaput of Denver.

Archbishop Chaput has also written a book on “Serving the Nation by Living Our Catholic Beliefs in Political Life” titled RENDER UNTO CAESAR.

I have just started reading his book, however, in the first chapter he states;

“Over the past decade I’ve grown increasingly tired of the church and her people being told to be quiet on public issues that urgently concern us. Worse, Catholics themselves too often stay silent out of a misguided sense of good manners. Even those of us who are bishops can sometimes seem more concerned with discretion and diplomacy than speaking plainly and acting clearly.”

Maybe Archbishop Niederauer should read it…🤷

I agree with aggiecatholic’s post.

My interpretation regarding the Archbishop’s witten statement is his public way of putting her on notice.

Pelosi’s next vote or remark against the Catholic Church’s teaching will warrant the Archbishop’s public use of the ban hammer on her.

Of particular interest was Father Z’s ( WDTPRS) response to the Archbishop’s statement.

Here is a snippet :
After all that… has His Excellency decided not to decide?
Maybe he is taking an overdue necessary step?
I sincerely hope the dialogue goes well.
Better late than never.
How did the dialogue go in years past?
During this conversation, will he solicit from her assent to Church teaching?
We know Archbishop Burke, as clear and bold as he is, also tried to talk personally to people.
Let us hope new ground can be covered.
In the meantime, people “in the pews” will watch where this goes and pray.

Since the Archbishop is inviting people for conversations he might as well invite San Francisco’s “Catholic” mayor -Gavin Newsom.

Newsom will join tomorrow in the official launching of the “No on 8 - Equality for All Campaign” at the old Tower Records store on Market Street.

He will be acting in open defiance of California’s bishops, who have officially endorsed Proposition 8 and have urged Catholics to support it.

He wants to have a chat.

We all know that forty eight million innocent children are dead by abortion in the USA. We all know that God loves life but Satan, the father of all lies, loves death. In particular, Satan loves the murder of innocent children who are killed before they have been baptised.

Who are liers? Who are Catholics? What are the evils that beset the Catholic Church as an Institution? Consider our servant Archbishop Niederauer:

Dateline: February 8, 2007: lifesitenews.com/ldn/2007/feb/07020802.html

“In what is likely to be viewed as the most bizarre statement in the interview Niederauer says he does not understand House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s stand on abortion. Rated by the National Abortion Right’s Action League as 100% in support of abortion, Pelosi has for years been a leading abortion proponent while continuing to call herself Catholic…”

Archbiship N: "“We haven’t had an opportunity to talk about the life issues. I would very much welcome that opportunity, but I don’t believe that I am in a position to say what I understand her stand to be, if I haven’t had a chance to talk to her about it.”

"Niederauer did say that he had spoken to Pelosi last year (2006), but not about abortion, but about “immigration”, explaining “because that was very much the hot-button topic of the time.”

Dateline September 5, 2008: the-tidings.com/2008/090508/pelosi.htm

Archbishop N: “Speaker Pelosi has often said how highly she values her Catholic faith, and how much it is a source of joy for her. Accordingly, as her pastor, I am writing to invite her into a conversation with me about these matters…”

Ah, time passes.

I think it is fair to say that if you tell me you are a believer but in practice ACT as though none of it is true, then THAT is what you really believe. What has Archbishop N. done?
